What is it about the internet that turns people into alcoholics?

None of my friends drink, so I'm purely a solo drinker. So when I drink, I'm doing other solo activities like video games and internet. When I'm drinking and playing FFXIV I take a shot whenever I die.

I can't imagine anything more depressing than getting drunk alone in my house while connected to the Internet.

Not everyone drinks alone because they're sad and depressed. I drink because it makes me feel goofy and warm.

I rarely drink (probably once a month max although I often go much longer without), but when I do it's so I can "enhance" my videogames. Drunk gaming is fun. Might do some tonight.

Also I turn into a frickin' beast in Awesomenauts when I'm tipsy.

I agree with Denmark on this one. I enjoy both things and they just tend to happen at the same time for me.

And as Parker was saying, and I believe another, there's a lot more than the internet that makes the alcoholics the way they are. Unhappiness is easier to handle with a bit aide.

I don't think it's limited to the internet. You can find tones in any social commonplace or setting putting alcohol and alcoholic experiences on a pedestal these days.

I am generally not driven to drink based on what happens on the internet. Exceptions include herbal harassment from Huxley and Raistlin involving words I dislike.

Also, it's not that society puts it on a pedestal. It's more or less the fact that people need alcohol as a way to get through the day. They become dependent on the substance and the feeling in order to function properly. Because, seriously, binge drinking with friends and at parties in no way makes you an alcoholic. It's constantly living your life in that state that does.
