Another forum I sometimes post at has a stickied topic - links to "important" threads, like the favourite threads that used to be stickied but became too much at some point. So people always have access to them when they feel like posting, and there aren't a lot of stickies to clog gen chat.
Some people might find this hasslesome, but it is something to think about.

Really, only threads of certain importance, like an official contest (EoFF Idol doesn't count anymore since it's failing so hardcore, but the Mafia game probably should be stickied if it needs immediate attention), should be stickied.
Really, you guys are being lazy about this kind of thing. Learn to remove the sticky if the thread isn't that important anymore.

I destuck EoFF Idol 'cause that seems to be dead.
One sticky at a time. Too many "important" things at once defeats the purpose of it being labeled important.
They'll lose their stickiness eventually and peel off like old stickers
Put them all in a sub-forum entitled: "Eugh, there's a fly in it."
I'm sure there's a way to separate sticky threads from normal threads in some form of a flimsy partition as allowed by the vB. Or, you can have one giant FAQ thread linking to the FAQ along with links to threads, and information that doesn't warrant a place on the user FAQ. It could moderated regularly, not that it's irregular to have a bunch of stickied threads.
