I was somewhat amazed to see the claws come out in the previous thread as well as this one.
Some of you mods obviously don't like each other and I find that rather sad.
You shouldn't expect to agree all the time but simply because you don't agree doesn't make the person with the opposing opinion some kind of ..well..wuss...
I think you find too that if a person doesn't agree with you initially, doesn't buy your initial argument then it's pointless to dissect what they say thinking that will get them to change their mind.It just tends to aggrivate the situation and doesn't accomplish anything.

Ok, without flaming or sniping well that second one might be impossible this is me and we all know I loves my sniper rifle, she's called Tess and she's a beauty!

A competition that people put time and effort in to winning was ended prematurely because some members bitched about it. Nobody in the final wins because the staff who went to great lengths I am sure to think up tasks that would best show the ability of the members participating gave up and some even quit because the people who were constantly whining about it which is childish. My niece whines when she can't get her own way she's 2 an adult should know better. Frankly if I was on the staff with the amount of complaining, whining and accusations of the competition being fixed I probably would have given up on it and considered resigning from staff too.

Having admined forums and even a game in development in the past when the member base has been full of hostilities (you put people in to different teams and the hostilities get out of hand easily and often) I know that it is not fun to moderate a forum where the members accuse the staff of being biased and conniving to use the member base for their own ends. I applaud our staff and thank those such as Shlup for their time and effort in doing this thankless job, in my humble opinion and well forget the humble part because as Psy would like to see me say right now "I'm genetically different baby" there are certain members of this forum who need to realize they're not 2 anymore and they need to grow up. If you don't like how a forum is run or the way things are determined on a forum then leave that forum there will always be around 20 others where you can try to find something you like. No one has to my knowledge been forced to remain a member of a forum against their will in the history of the internet as a domestic service. Yelling about how the staff are all part of an evil shin-ra is not going to get you anywhere or even very liked by other members it will only succeede in one thing, making you look like a complete prat. Rather than yell your complaints in public simply walk away and get on with whatever you do in your real life should you actually have one, if you don't then I'm sorry about that but maybe if you actually click the little logout button followed by the shutdown one on your computers start menu you will be able to see about getting one of these fine inventions, I hear that in the real world there are such things as women available, no lie!

On every other forum not owned by an EoFF member I have frequented in my lifetime staff members are selected not at random, not because they were unknown, new and suddenly applicable to become staff because it's in the interest of balance. You earn the punishment that is staff rights by proving that you are a reliable, sensible and likable addition to the team. I stress this that being a moderator is not fun in any situation you get to deal with the endless spam accounts and porn bots that fill the internet and when you've finished banning them and blocking whatever ip it was they crawled in on what will undoubtedbly turn out to be a damn proxy meaning it was pointless to do so you get to go on to dealing with the members who can't keep rational either because of excitement, anger, alcoholism, harassment (including sexually based harassment) of other members, obsession that the staff are evil and who can forget the banned members who just refuse to stay banned by registering new accounts so they can further carry on being idiots. Who can see this as fun? Occassionally you'll have a new member who asks for help and thats actually about as nice as it gets for a moderator. I would mention organising events and the like to try and make the forums seem more welcoming or fun for members but everytime you do that you get the "The staff are evil, freedom lives! Don't listen to Ondore's lies!" staff haters yelling about how this is just a popularity contest and pre-determined that the prettiest female member or the hunkiest or wittiest guy will win it and they don't stand a chance because they spend all their time looking like a half deranged person obsessed with believing that the staff are evil with a massive conspiracy theory to cover up that Rinoa was actually Ultimecia but that Square and the staff of the forum are in cahoots to prevent the knowledge ever getting out and that the aliens are comming to put probes in our anuses, which means ofcourse they don't stand a chance because normal people tend to believe that the person is a freak. Does this sound like fun to anyone yet? I didn't really find it fun when I have had to do it in the past however it is something that is necessary whenever you have a community to take care of and thats what matters is the community and it's peace. Your average member of a forum wants to have the right to freedom of speech, to go around without being insulted and harassed and without seeing countless porn bots which if you accidentally click on it infect your computer with so many viruses it becomes easier to delete the lot and start again they however do not wish to put the long unpaid hours in to making the forum like this, they just demand it is done. That said, if I was ever asked to be a member of the EoFF staff I would accept the position gladly, it might be a thankless task but it is one that needs doing and I'm a sucker for punishment

Life is a popularity contest from political elections to the winner of the X-Factor it doesn't matter if you can sing perfectly if you're not popular if you don't have something about you to hook the audience in with then you're not going to win simple as. I'm sorry to burst the bubble of naievity surrounding anyone who believes life is fair but it really isn't. Everyone has their favourites and their preferences when it comes to things from food to people they know to employees working for them. The trick is to make it appear like it isn't which is kind of what the competition gave in a sense. Having the competition allows the staff to put a group of people who are all applying to become disillusioned with the way the forum works through their paces. Theres many reasons for this but one of the reasons I'd give is probably this: To see not only who is popular with the other members in the forum and would be easier to accept in a new role with power but also to see who would be best for the role, who is going to do the job and stick around with it? Who is going to put in the effort that is needed and not just go "you know I cbf with this" the person willing to do the job and capable of doing the job is not always the first choice of the staff members and not always the person who wants it the most some people seem to think it's all just about waving their title around and demanding people do as they say, guess what bub? It isn't like that at all, demanding and slapping your title around is not going to work people just argue back believe me I'd know when I first admined a forum I did think like that I learnt the hard way that it is the worst way to moderate.

Now personally I know I haven't been the most active of people in this forum of late, I've been a little on the quiet side for me which is perhaps a little strange but life is strange. However I took a lot of time to read over the threads of the competition since this drama bomb hit and to read over some of the feedback threads linked to it. I personally just would like to thank Shlupquack for the many hours she devoted to the contest and to trying to make sure that not only did we have fun we got a staff member or a few new staff member we know could and would do the job and be the most welcomed to doing it. I would also like to thank all of the former and current staff who have worked hard over the years this forum has been around for making it a pleasant place to go on the internet and that I hope that in the future they will continue to do so and hope that whoever they choose to help fill in the vacancies left by the recent quittings is not decided because it will appease the masses but because it will be a decision what is best for this forum.
