If you don't get a female Gardevoir and give it all the best Special Attacks, then you absolutely suck at this generation.

    Dibs on Lucario.

Rapidash is easily the best Fire Pokemon in this generation. Megahorn and Flare Blitz? yus plz!

Rapidash can't fight competitively, however. You need a team good enough for its disadvantages. It's speed would be be devestating with even more attack.

It can fight competitively when your only competition is the game, though. xD Even so, it's great Speed coupled with some pretty nice status dickmoves makes it reasonably annoying and quite helpful in proper competitions.

Status? Agility? Often KO Rapidash afterwards. Hypnosis? Bad Hit Rate. 5th generation Rapidash at least has a good movepool with Fire, Bug, Ground and Fight.

Will o' Wisp is a great Burn move that can set up some devastating attacks after Rapidash's death. As you say, though, it's only really useful for normal play. But it is awesome, as well, so that counts for something.

Wisp and Toxic are good, yes. But for that Ninetales is better since it can dry out the field and stall for a while plus use Drought for Fire Blast. Afterwards Chlorophyll Venusaur or Victreebel.

Can't get Ninetales in Platinum if you have no friends, though.

Presumably, you'll not be taking these lot online, haha, so I'd grab a Modest one and give it Psychic, Energy Ball (I think that's its name; the Grass type Special), Thunderbolt and Flamethrower. Gardevoir's Sp.Atk is so monstrously high that her STAB Psychic can take OHKO Pokemon resistant to it. I love her. xD

It's an Emulation (the only way I can get screenshots ) so no, they won't be taken anywhere near online.

Guardevoir cannot learn Flamethrower. You need a Hidden Fire Power. And Psychic, Focus Blast and Thunderbolt ist better than a moveset with Energy Ball. Actually even Grass Knot is better than Energy Ball in several cases.

Argh, I can't remember properly what I did with her, then. Nonetheless, she's a great Special Attacker.
