On a more serious note, I'm not getting much sense of it as an anagram. Letting "a people" join "together" creates many interesting anagrams, like "garotte peephole", "relegate the poop" and "gather-to-pee pole", but little that actually helps with the riddle. Currently trying to figure out other types of word play it could be.

(don't mind me, I'm just rambling to gather my thoughts. :D)

There's another tune involved in the answer; said answer is somewhat tied in to another event in the plot. If you think back along what Sword was saying earlier and apply it to this you just might get it.

It's established that one of the tunes referred to is "Off the Edge of Despair", so we're trying to find out what the other one is and what the connection is.

I take it the other track is "oppressed people". Its the goin up part that gets me because the track is played in wall market where you climb up to the plate in Midgar and its also played in Rocket town where a rocket takes you up into space.

Is the answer the rocket lift off?

Well the rocket town theme is Cid, and off the edge of despair is when you lose Cloud. So is it when Cid becomes the party leader?

The answer isn't really something you can find in the game, it's just something that happens.

The fourth line, which is about getting it on a tape, implies that it had to do with music, which everyone's got.

The "k" in "eskape" refers to the ska sound of Oppressed People, which was intended to help you figure out that was one of the tunes, as I only used the word "oppression" while otherwise giving half of Off the Edge of Despair's title. "Going up" to "escape" would refer to going up into space on a rocket, but if I explain it too exactly it'll give the answer away.

The third line implies that the answer has to do with something changing...

I think I've left it wide open now: it has to do with the game's music, and has to do with something changing, and it has something to do with the tracks "Off the Edge of Despair" and "Oppressed People", and it has something to do with Rocket Town.

If that isn't practically giving someone the answer...

Line 1 - I think that "yellow" is a person, but the only person I can associate the colour yellow with is Cloud.
Line 2 - This line is saying that whoever the answer is, they are untrustworthy.
Line 3 - Whoever it is will end up giving/using/whatever the Black Materia.
Line 4 - "Use" them to obtain the White Materia.
Line 5 - What has been used in place of Who,and I think for a good reason. The answer is not a specific person or creature imo.

With that, my answer is JENOVA Cells. They give yellow (Cloud) extra strength. But the cells take control of Cloud and he takes the Black Materia and gives it to Sephiroth, so they aren't too reliable. Not sure how it relates to the White Materia, but worth a shot.

I have a feeling this is an enemy that, if overkilled in a big way, will retaliate with a nasty status ailment, but also packs an instant kill attack.

Probably wrong though; I can think of no such enemy in the game.

To those who don't know: Gargoyles can be killed by using a Soft on them, while they're still petrified. If no character is in Slow-numb or Petrify status when the Gargoyle dies, he will use L4 Death. Even Final Attack can't save you, since there's no enemy -> no final attack.:D

Well ignore "exceed" for now and figure out what your most powerful ally is. Then ways in which things are able to exceed it.

It cannot deal damage itself. The rest is fine but "use" is a very loose term since using an item in battle counts as using a command.

Well, I'm trying to read it as literally as possible. I'm thinking "the most powerful of allies" might refer to summons, most of which Quadra Magic will improve and thus in a way "exceed". You've made it quite clear that it doesn't deal damage by itself so it's could be many of the support materia. Some of the answers I planned to follow up with were guessed above, so I'll wait for you to confirm or deny those.

I'm not too sure why a reasoning is needed if it's wrong but I'll humor you. Something that can exceed an ally and help defeat a foe? HP Plus materia sounded about right. Put's your characters past where their HP level should be and extra HP is quite helpful when going up against a boss, plus there's no command for it.

Also, I think we all get your hints, it's just that you keep repeating yourself that's making this harder and it keeps our guesses limited to items and commands, even though you've stated it's neither.

- Its uses are VERY helpful for the most powerful bosses;
- It is NOT a weapon/armour;
- It exceeds the Knights of Round materia somehow;
- It does NOT have any strength of its own.
