Several guesses.
The Stones in the observatory. Summon, Command, Magic, Support, Independant. I don't think Support and Independant have masters.
Otherwise it's life stream and materia.
They are both the same making them brothers.
One is solid and extracted as the other isn't.
The life stream sustains the planet.
Materia can take it away.
Or is it Holy and Meteor?
Cure and Poison?
Wall and Rflect?
Summon creatures?
It feels very open-ended.

So fraternal twins apparently are two eggs fertilised by two separate sperm. Judging by the hints, the answer must have 2 materias, which are completely opposite. However, I don't see how mastering materia gets involved if, by the definition of a fraternal twin, the 2 materias come from different sources.
EDIT: Thinking Full Cure & Ultima. Both originally start off with no ability, but reduce your stats (hinder). As you level them up, you can use the spells.
BG-57
06-25-2010, 05:31 PM
The answer is a pair of materia, but not these two. Check my previous hint.
champagne supernova
06-25-2010, 05:41 PM
If they are twins suggests that these two materia have been put in a linked slot.
There are just too many possibilities, especially as it's a specific two materia. I was thinking MP Turbo because it increases MP cost but increases damage, but have thought too much about it and am now more confused.
EDIT: But if I look at the hint about opposites, I'm going to take a wild guess and say: Revive & Destruct. When they're mastered, they are perfect opposites (one causing instant death, one causing full life). Otherwise I'm going to have a long think about it.

Riddle
Two brothers if twins
Must be fraternal
One path facilitates
The other hinders itself[!] google_ad_section_end [/!]
Hints:
The twins are opposites.
The answer deals with materia, more presicely it involves mastering materia.
The answer is a pair of materia, but not these two. Check my previous hint.
I'm gonna guess Black and White Materia. But, I'm not positive. Would facilitates means helps in any fashion?

Is the answer the "Right Revenge" attack used by one of Ruby WEAPON's tentacles? I think it takes off a percentage of maximum health, as well as possibly causing the 'Mini" status effect.
My Reasoning:
A sudden journey to Brobdingnag - Having been suddenly afflicted with Mini in the presence of Ruby Weapon, you would indeed feel as though you were in the land of giants.
Brought on by dexter vengeance - It's a while since I fought Ruby Weapon, but I'm pretty sure "Right Revenge" is used as a counterattack. The name certainly suggests it.
I must use my mind to survive - As Mini reduces your attack damage to 1, physical attacks are certainly out of the question for the duration of the status effect.
Lest saved by the horn of plenty - Mini is cured by the Cornucopia item, which is a mythical Greek horn of plenty.
FFIX Choco Boy
06-29-2010, 11:49 AM
Ah, I think Enjol got it, either that or it's mini status in general.
Rantz
06-29-2010, 11:49 AM
Close enough! I was simply going for the Mini status effect, the "Right revenge" attack just being an example of an attack that inflicts it, but your reasoning is spot on. Your go! :)

Definitely agreed on the riddle difficulty :D
Is it the Grow Lance?
Triple twin chased - 6 linked materia slots.
Three and three score holds it - Something about it being on floor 63 of the Shinra HQ? Not sure how it actually ties together, though.
Transfixion it's case - It's a lance, ie. a piercing weapon.
Accretion defines it - The name indicates growth!

Just musing some random things no actual guess, I think the last line might refer to a monster that can dish out the Sadness status, the first line makes me think its the rabbit type creature that you fight near the snow boarding town but it completely does not tie in with the rest of the clues.
DarkBahamut
07-13-2010, 08:07 AM
Both theories are wrong.
The answer has nothing to do with a monster, but something that may be used to battle. I got one more hint up my sleeve. I'll use it when things get rough.
Carl the Llama
07-20-2010, 06:38 AM
So its something that may be used in battle? I can only assume its an item or materia of some sort... Is it the Contain Materia?
Also if I'm wrong I was wondering if the "may" means "can only" be used in battle?
DarkBahamut
07-20-2010, 07:10 AM
Correct, Kaiso.
What I hear through these ears? You scratch the white chocobo's ear in Mideel because that's where you find the Contain materia (literally behind its ear :P)
Uncertain destruction, causing wear and tears. Cause damage in four different types of terror.
Typhoons and blizzards may come and go, The materia has four spells in it, one having to do with a Wind type element and one ice.
once I have been told to bring my enemies sorrow. Was a hint that tells you that you can use it in battle.

The areas in Gold Saucer? Or, rather more specifically, the tunnels that take you between them? If I recall correctly, there are 8 of them, and only 7 tunnels in each area to lead to the others, because what is the point of there being an 8th to the area you're in already?
I've been staring at this riddle for half an hour now and it's doing my head in.
I briefly considered a possible relationship to mako reactors, thinking there were several scattered around the world. But the presence of 8 in Midgar debunks that.
Then I thought about ultimate weapons. There are 8 materia slots, linked in couples. All of them are like this except Aeris's, which has 6 linked slots. Dunno if this could be on the right track, but I feel not.
Btw BG don't respond to these musings I'm just putting things down in case they help people. :p
EDIT: and in that half an hour Choco Boy has posted a brilliant guess.

Sorry, but I thought I was time to allow for everyone to look at the riddle and see the hints along with the close guesses. (Yes, I know BG already posted the riddle again.)
Riddle:
We are octuplets
But never all together
But look around
To find most of us
Hints (with by BG or answering a question):
They're connected to specific locations.
The answers are inanimate and found in groups, but never all eight together.
It has nothing to do with Midgar.
It has nothing to do with weapons of any kind.
Close Answers:
The only thing that came to mind for me were the pieces of the Midgar model on the 65th (I think) floor of the Shinra HQ
[!] google_ad_section_start [/!]
Is it the items you get trying to get into Don's mansion?
-----
For some reason I think you can physically pick up the answer, so I don't think it's the tunnels at Gold Saucer. The close guesses are things that can be picked up, if I'm not mistaken.
The hints tell me that the answer may not in one location, but it might be in several. It's connected to different locations, for some reason I don't think this allows for the Gold Saucer tunnels. But, looking at the close guesses, I believe that the answer is found in one town but in different areas.
I'm quoting myself (with additions)....
Here is what I think the riddle could mean.... Not a true answer, but I'm just stating my thoughts.
We are octuplets
Could this mean that there are 8 parts of this? This could also refer to 2 sets of 4. Or 4 sets of 2.
But never all together
But these 8 parts never appear together.
But look around
To find most of us
So, if the player looks around then the player will find most of them. Or you need to go from one area to a different area to find them all.
BG, can you answer these:
Is the answer usable by the menu?
Are most of the answer found in one location or several?
Can the answer be split in 2 items in 4 group sets or 4 items in 2 group sets?
Is the answer part of the main story?
Do you need to explore to find the answers, that is go from one area to the next?

Only two chances do you have to see me - You only visit Midgar twice. I don't recall another area where you are limited to two visits.
The origin of such is found in antiquity - This actually makes me think of the rocket at Rocket Town.
Only to be seen never to be held - Evidently it must be apart of the background or scenery if you cannot hold it.
Do not try to find me iv been expelled - This links with the second line in making me think of the rocket, a part of the rocket even.

Shinwa Tsuki
08-27-2010, 02:03 AM
Okay, it is equivalent to a limit break. So the question is, for anyone really, which game is the answer a limit break? I know that KaiserDragon may not answer that - because that would likely to be a very big hint....
For some odd reason, I have to ask this KaiserDragon, two chances to see it - does that refer to the previous games, solely FF7, or this game and previous game?
Carl the Llama
08-27-2010, 03:26 AM
Its not a limit break, at all. Its not usable by a character and the 2 chances to see it is in FFVII all the other games the answer has been in it can be seen an infinite amount of times.
So your looking for something that can ONLY be seen twice in FFVII but in all the other Final Fantasy's its been in it can be seen an infinite amount of times. Obviously the answer is not a limit break cause then there would be an infinite amount of times it could be seen.
So in short: your party has no access to this answer except to see it, it can only be seen twice at 2 completely different points in the game.
It can be seen an infinite amount of times on any other game the answer is in.

Shinwa Tsuki

Yes, the White Materia which contains the Holy spell is a good guess. But, I'm not certain if Materia would be classed as an item. The Holy spell, I'm not certain if it's in previous games - but I'm betting it is.
If the answer is not White Materia, I'm going with the Black Materia and the Meteor spell.
Both answers don't seem correct as the party does have the White Materia as Aerith holds it, and they end up holding the Black Materia in the game - I don't remember if it is accessed by the player through the menu....

I know Rapps uses it, and I think the enemies at the top of Gaia's Cliff use it, and those are the only two times you'll see it.
IT's been in almost all other games in the series.
As far as I know you never get anything that let's you cast the spell.

Shinwa Tsuki

I originally thought that Aero was a spell that could be used by Materia, looked it up in the Strategy Guide - and that's not so. But as a spell - even a monster spell - it's possible to see many times.
The only monster, according to the guide, which has an Aero attack is Rapps - and Rapps has Aero3. Also, I don't think that a magic relates to the third line, because I don't know if you can hold energy.

We have our winner ladies and gentlemen let me explain ^^
Only two chances do you have to see me - the spell is cast by only 2 different monsters, rapps and some monster in the whirlwind maze.
The origin of such is found in antiquity - the first time the aero spells are found in the final fantasy series is FFIII
Only to be seen never to be held - the fact that it is a spell but not an obtainable materia.
Do not try to find me I've been expelled - Some people speculate that the spell was originally intended to be a materia but was cut before the end.
Congratulations Mr Schpagge.
Addendum: yes, technically you can see the spell more then once if they cast it more then once but at that point in the game (when your in the whirlwind maze) I always find myself strong enough to kill the monster before it has more then 2 turns. but if you want to be pedantic you could in theory sit there and let it cast the spell over and over but meh.

The light on the front of the Highwind?
The last line of the riddle is quite literal.
You're all a ways off still, but this should narrow your guesses quite a bit.

Quite literal... I keep coming back to the thought that your talking about the Holy/Lifestream that rises up to stop meteor at the end, it is a light that you follow back to Midgar (what I presume you mean by home) but seeing as both have already been guessed... I'm out of idea's right now.
Could you be referring to the light of Marlene's window that you see just before Holy rises up to stop meteor... I honestly don't know how this would fit in with the rest of the riddle.

The best hint I can give at this point is the first line has nothing to do with the main story.

Your journey has brought you through desert, ice, and into space; what you desire is almost in hand - In the Gold Saucer Speed Square game, you go through desert, ice and space.
There are times you fall short of your goals, then you remember me, your last chance for success. - It's pretty hard to get a good high score, but shooting down the big spaceship nets a 1000 points (I think)
I am the light that guides the heroes home. - Spaceships have lots of lights?
Is it the big spaceship in the Speed Square mini-game at the Gold Saucer?

I'm thinking the Chocobo races for some reason.

Does the answer have something to do with Gold Saucer?
As to what, I'm a bit clueless right now.

Hey, thanks. Hopefully you can get this one and we can call it even. :D
I am surrounded by flowers
And the first of my kind found
I am protective of others
And useless when no one’s around.

The Cover materia found in the church where you first meet Aeris.
If this is the answer Karifean can have a go at it, I like being on the guessing side of the riddles.
