I finished Stealth Inc./Stealth Bastard and the main island in PixelJunk Monsters. Will probably continue with the bonus islands in the latter. I also tried out Velocity Ultra on Vita, seems like a really cool game!

Also been playing the new maps in Ghosts. They're pretty fun but I don't know if they're as good as the first pack.

I picked up FTL again, since originally I only played it for ~30 minutes. I really like it. It's a good pick up/put down game.

Still on ME3 when I have time. I'm kinda ready for it to be over. The whole part on Tuchanka was a good piece of morally ambiguous storytelling, though.

The start of Bloodmoon isn't the best-paced part of the game and it can be tricky to tease out the questline at first, yeah. Just go between Raven Rock and Fort Frostmoth, you should find the quests to get things going there.

As an aside that is my favorite scenario in the entire Civ franchise. :jess:

As for what I'm currently playing:

Civ IV
Space Engineers
Crusader Kings 2
State of Decay
SimCity 4
FreeSpace 2

Man it would be great if we could get a really huge EoFF Civ IV game one day. Not sure how the multiplayer is on that front, if it's excruciatingly slow or not but it would be cool to check it out.

I've been playing Modnation Racers Road Trip and Unit 13 for Vita on my morning commutes. The former looks and plays gorgeously on the Vita's OLED screen and brings some nice innovations to the kart racer formula. The latter is kind of like a PS2.5 game, I doubt it could really stand on its own as a console shooter but it's nonetheless fun for bite sized missions on the go.

I also tried FIFA 14 on PS4 over drinks and hookah at a friend's place last night. Might only be the second or third time trying the series but it was a lot of fun for couch competition, lots of yelling and laughing. Looks pretty good on PS4 too.

Final Fantasy X HD, just finished basically everything, now I need to grind levels so I can get strong enough to grind spheres to grind more levels to kill the creations.

FTL, I'll play a run now and then, same for Binding of Isaac.

League of Legends, I've been playing a bit more of this game again. I played a lot last summer, and haven't played quite as much in the new season.

I played the Destiny PS4 alpha a few days ago. The game is gorgeous but doesn't stand out too much for me. It almost like a Sci Fi Elder Scrolls game with a huge open world and little missions and dungeons for you to tackle at your leisure. I wasn't sold on the bit of multiplayer I tried, too much like Halo with the maps too big to funnel you towards the action. I suppose if you're playing with 5 teammates who really communicate it can be intense, though.

I finished Velocity Ultra on Vita and moved on Terraria, which released for free on PS+ yesterday. Time absolutely flies by playing this game, I can see getting really addicted to this one.

My current commuter rotation has been Killzone Mercenary, Hot Shots Tennis, Luftrausers and Child of Light. I got the first two on a PSN sale for cheap; can't believe how amazing Killzone looks and plays on the Vita, very close to the PS3 games. Also Child of Light really grew on me. At first it's awesome then I started to doubt if the game mechanics were just fluff but the difficulty came back around and I think it's a really awesome JRPG system. I like using the touch screen for the firefly guy and the artwork is just stunning on the Vita OLED screen.

The Dota 2 International 4 starts this weekend so I'll probably be on Steam watching that and hopping into games.

Whoops, didn't mean to ignore you for a week xD. You're probably passed me now, I kind of got distracted by Wind Waker HD. Anywho, Melia is really fun to play as. One thing that probably took me too long to figure out is: ALWAYS have Summon Bolt up for Ether. I thought having Summon Aqua up for Regen would be good, but it doesn't heal that much and if the enemies die before they can do enough damage then healing isn't really necessary.

The only games I play at all now and for the last year or so are Guild Wars 2 and League of Legends. I don't have a console where I'm living now and buying one is kind of out of the question. I also found myself getting bored really quickly when I tried playing on the PS3 last year.

My two main games right now are Dynasty Warriors Gundam Reborn on PS3 (which I've been trying to finish since it launched over a month ago now...65 hours and I've still got 12% of the cards to get; it's taking bloody forever!) and Mind = Zero on Vita (which I bought and started the other day...I've done more listening than anything else thus far; Leo is already getting on my nerves) although I also have files on Borderlands 2, Atelier Rorona Plus, Final Fantasy II, Pokemon Y and Tales of Xillia I'm playing infrequently in between. Since I finally platted Tales of Xillia yesterday, I've picked up The Witch and the Hundred Knight again...which I bought at launch, played for about 20 minutes, then put down and ignored until just now. Something else distracted me at the time, although I forget just what that something was...might have been because I was still obsessively playing Tales of Symphonia at the time. Still, it seems like a fun enough game, if a bit unorthodox for its developers. Time shall tell.

Mostly Mind = Zero now handheld wise. I want this game finished by next Wednesday, but that seems doubtful, since I have to replay it on Expert...and the Dream Corridor is BRUTAL. The enemies in the last three dungeons have all hit harder than the bosses! Kei loves missing, escaping never works unless Bursting, and I need to grind but I really cannot be bothered because this is a game that seems to discourage it by making each battle a chore. I seriously regret buying this game right now. It's also £12.99 now and I paid £24.99 for it. smurf PSN sales. Seriously. They're never around when I need/want them...

I've still not touched Tomb Raider or TLOU Remastered. Every time the PS4 goes on, when it hasn't got a Smallville DVD in it, it's got FFXIV instead...might be putting these two on the shelf for a while, especially if I cave and buy Diablo III/Bound by Flame. Since I've been itching to play the former since it came out on PS3 last year, and the latter is £24.99 on the PSN for PS4 (and £15.99 for PS3) it seems likely I'll cave within the next few days, especially if I sell something on eBay to justify it...

I started and finished Murdered: Soul Suspect on the weekend. I found it quite a neat game, I have to say. I think it's a shame the developers closed up right after they made it. There were parts of it that were predictable but a fair few moments that were not, too, and I just liked the people and the general story. The gameplay wasn't shabby, nothing amazing but a good compliment to a story-driven game.

Otherwise, nothin' but Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn for some time now I think!

I finished The Last of Us Remastered, it sure lived up to its reputation and I adored how much of the story is beneath the surface.

I also finished another run of Hotline Miami, since it came out on PS4 last week and I already had the license since getting the PS3/Vita version for free on Plus. I'm bummed the sequel keeps getting delayed but I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

I just got done with The Witcher 2. I was going to play The Witcher 3 when it's released and have that be my first experience with the series, but I had a little bit of downtime from newer games so decided on two.

I think there are a few design flaws here and there, but it really is a special RPG. The issues I had were minor like, there should have been a button to interact with things instead of using the same button to attack. The delay after I kill an enemy and being able to pick stuff up is a bit of an annoyance. Again, these are really minor criticisms.

However, the plot is incredible, the combat is a lot of fun and has some depth once you get used to it (at first the controls bothered me a bit but I adapted), leveling up was also fun because of the multiple skill trees and being able to mutate said abilities, and the side-quests were interesting. There were a lot of twists and turns so you never really knew what was going to happen, even in quests, and I liked how your decisions were pretty definitive, so you could even miss an item later if you did something stupid earlier. It adds impact to your choices, and the game also reflects that in the ending. I have to say, the ending scene after the credits made me go, "Oh shit." It's just a really well-told low-fantasy RPG, and while I was originally excited for Wild Hunt just because of the hype and love the previous games have gotten, I can be more excited now that I'm invested in what's going on.

At first I didn't see why the game was getting 9s, 9.5s and 10s, but somewhere in Chapter 1 I started to really really like it and then in Chapter 2 I fell in love fully.

Been hammering away at Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment. More like Grind Art Offline: Translation Fragment...I have no clue where I'm going half the time, I've got this huge list of things to do and no idea where to start, and I'm skipping every cutscene because the translation is so painfully bad I can't bear to read it. Seriously, I have never seen a translation job this bad...it's like Atashi No Riri or something. Whoever is responsible for this needs to be crucified. Or at the very least, fired and permanently banned from ever doing this kind of work again. I could do a better job playing it by ear, and I don't read or speak Japanese. It is THAT bad.

...but as bad it is, the gameplay is murderously addictive. I want the Platinum trophy, and it's going to take hundreds of hours. Lovely!

Also playing Tales of Xillia 2, but I'm having a little trouble getting into it...it reminds me of Dawn of the New World a bit. And Leia seems to have grown more irritating than she was in the first game...

Slothy
10-26-2014, 02:01 PM
Maybe. I think GT6 is a better game in a lot of ways (was not a fan of 5 for a lot of reasons at launch), but it is missing some of the content that was available in previous games. Endurance rces for example aren't in it. Now they were talking about adding some of that stuff back in after launch, but it's been almost a year and those aren't in there so who knows at this point.

That said, the game has a much better progression than 5, the physics feel a lot better, and the races are generally more interesting. I'd recommend it overall.

Mirage

Snarky comments? Me? I don't understand what you are getting at.

It is a difficult question. There are new tracks, and a lot more tracks with changing time and weather. The graphics are better in some ways but worse in others. They made fancier real-time shadows, but didn't have the hardware resources to make them very high res, so it sometimes looks wonky. They increased the resolution but had to go from proper AA to the simpler FXAA.

The career mode (aka GT Life) is shorter and doesn't cover as many different cars and tracks as in 5, but they are still different events than what GT5 had. However, the progression system in GT6 is a lot better than the awful level grinding in GT5. I much prefer license tests to unlock new things rather than mindless exp grinding. License tests is at least a skill-based progression system. If you're a decent player, you can quickly pass through the lower leagues and don't have to repeat races several times in order to level up if you skipped a few events.

There are no real endurance races in the career mode anymore, which is kind of a let down. I would say it was not worth it at all at the time of release, but now that it's been a year, you can get it for like 20 bucks and it's worth 20 bucks.

If you're interested in motorsports history and car design, the game also has a few things for you, such as a tribute to a legendary F1 driver, and exclusive digital concept cars designed by manufacturers specifically for GT6.

If I'm gonna take a guess at why the graphics are sometimes better and sometimes worse, I would say it's because a lot of the graphics used in GT6 probably were created for use with PS4, and then scaled down to a level that the PS3 could handle, while GT5's graphics were developed to look as good as possible on PS3. It hasn't been confirmed for all aspects of the graphics, but I am pretty sure that some PD guy said that all cars made for GT5 and 6 were made in incredibly high detail, then scaled down, so that they can use the same data to quickly create cars for GT7. Hopefully, this means that GT7 isn't as far off as GT5 was to GT4.

if GT6 had built on the strengths of GT5 and the current GT6 that we got, it would have been a much better game. I don't regret my purchase, but I'm glad I waited for several price drops.

-edit-
oh yeah I also really like the music but that's even more subjective than any of the other stuff i mentioned. and you could just put the music into gt5 with a custom playlist anyway.

They really capitalized on the new generation in a way Infinity Ward wasn't able to with a short dev time for two generations. But even if they hadn't changed the movement with all the Exo stuff, I would still be saying this is the most exciting CoD since MW2. The game is just that good. Kohaku started off cool, but then she became boring and then she learned fear and became the most annoying character. She's picked Trust and Shyness and is slowly working her way back to being cool. She's joined in with the others in calling Kor a deviant. And speaking of calling Kor a deviant, Beryl is my favorite playable character. She's tiny, but the best kind of tiny: bossy and snarky. Also I have her dressed as a pirate.

I've been reading Fate/Stay Night lately. Just got done with the Fate arc. Took a little breather and read through Narcissu in about two hours. Gonna read Narcissu 2nd and then continue with Ultimate Blade Works, I suppose.

Also still playing Ougon Musou Kyoku CROSS all the damn time. I'll beat Black Battler someday.

I finished my dream build desktop PC Monday and have been playing all sorts of stuff since. Mostly maxed out Crysis 2 for the eye candy and Far Cry 2, which, while not as demanding, is a better game.

Last night, I started modding TESIV Oblivion using the actively ongoing Mythic Dawn project over at S.T.E.P. I spent nearlythe entire night modding and only got about halfway through it. Hoping for good results when it's all said and done.

I have been playing Far Cry 4 and it is great fun. :D It's not as good as Far Cry 3, but FC3 is the best FPS I've ever played. It was a tough act to follow but FC4 is doing it admirably, and I'm enjoying it a lot.

Final Fantasy X HD which MissH bought me for Christmas. Really enjoying it at the minute! Just beaten Lord Ochu in Kilika.

Haven't played any Blitzball yet which is probably why I haven't been distracted from the story. I'm determined to finish it this time.

Totally did not beat Deus Ex before dropping it, lol. I'm actually only just to the airfield. I'm determined to pick it up again sometime when I gaf.

But I bought Deadly Premonition and Killer is Dead on the cheap cheap not long ago and am totally in a mood for weird stuff. Killer is Dead is wonderful so far, though I'm very much intentionally avoiding the gigolo missions. For the most part it's totally a Suda game so I love it. DP is next after this.

Also picked up Shadowrun Returns and am finding it pretty fun and engrossing. Not sure that I'll play it to completion but it's been a good ride so far.

SmackDown vs. RAW 2010. I actually gotten so good at it I can play the game on hard without getting my ass kicked. Go figure.

Despite all the hours I first spent in the Story Mode, I find the stories I just make up in my head while playing exhibition matches to be a lot more fun. I made a Diva and she is cleaning house! I'm coming for your title, Michelle McCool!

Seriously though, just finished the first boss fight. I can understand the complaints with some of it. The camera does go wonky and its frustrating getting literally bounced around and the controls are hard to get used to. But the story seems interesting so far and the music is absolutely gorgeous. The art is really pretty too

Boss fight did take forever though

Recently played The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth which was amazing fun, then followed it up with SteamWorld Dig which was also a great way to spend a day and a half messing around. Both games are very two dimensional, light on story, heavy on gameplay, and generally good fun. I got them both for free via PlayStation Plus, so if you do have them for free via the same route, I suggest checking them out. I also got Don't Starve but I really feel it's one of those games that has no end in sight, a la Minecraft, and I just can't get heavily invested in them because I know there is no real final achievement thing going on. I can appreciate those games only if they're really engaging, like Dwarf Fortress.

Other than that, I'm getting back into Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn lately. It's been a while since I've found myself wanting to spend just a few more minutes on the game and watching the hours tick by, and it's kind of nice to be back at that place again.

Planning on playing Child of Light with Danielle at some point in the coming weeks after I recently procured it.

I'm winding down on Fantasy Life. After doing everything there was to do in the main game I picked up the DLC.

The additional story is great, and still manages to capture that brilliant charm that balances self-awareness, solid characters, and fun nostalgia that made the game so great.

The new area is a bit oddly structured, but that's understandable given that it has to be self-contained. It's actually much more expansive than I would have expected.

Then there's the extra Creator Rank. Ooh, yay, you can progress further with your chosen Life! Fantastic for half of them. But the requirements to hit the top tier Creator rank as ANY of the crafting professions is utterly ridiculous. Most of the time when leveling through the game I could either buy the items I needed to make things, or I'd get them as rewards for doing random quests around Riveria. In the expansion they seem to have thrown most of that out in favor of really extensive grinds for materials, several of which you don't get any clues as to where they might drop or how to obtain them.

This actually really hurts the game. Part of the incredible design of the base game was how solid and self contained each Life was. Yes, you had to do some fighting with bosses (though even then, if you focus on the Doomstones, it was pretty easy to skip through the combat quickly), but you could essentially play an entirely non-combat game with most of the classes, and still have it be fun and well built mechanically. As it is, I've hit Creator rank with two of the four combat Life classes, and I don't have a clue how to even get ONE of the Creator challenges for Blacksmithing.

So I'm kind of cooling off my massive binge on the game.

Maybe it just opens up more as I progress further with the Origin Island story. But the ridiculous imbalance of it is getting to me. Plus, part of the joy of the game IS the progression. It's what I spent most of the main game doing, working on my Life classes. So having some max out really easily while not having any idea how to begin some others is really not conducive to keeping me playing.
