Two was damn intense. Three is a bit less intense. Still has its crazy twists and turns, and it still punches you right in the feels, but it's a little slower so you can decompress a bit after two before it ramps up again.

Skyrim and Sonic After The Sequel today. Skyrim doesn't like major cities much. :( SATS is amazing, it's actually old-school 2D Sonic Tier.
Massive amounts of Sonic today - various games. I was in one of those moods where you've just gotta go fast.

I played the FF XIV beta and loved it, I wonder if there is another phase and when.
Otherwise I am playing Valkyrie Profile. I spent like 2-3 hours in Sunken Shrine solving the puzzles that I forgot about and fighting tough monsters. I really hate those flying eyeballs.
This thread could use a major bump! :monkey:
I've been playing (and raging at) FTL and also reinstalled Galactic Civilizations II to play that for the first time in a good long while. Had some fun winning that via tech victory!

Final Fantasy Type-0
I picked up a Japanese copy of this game, in anticipation of the upcoming fan translation. And, oh-my-gosh, it is amazing. It is one of the most fun FF games I've played in a long time, and I don't even understand most of the dialogue or systems.
It's not perfect. While the graphics are pushing the PSP to its breaking point, if it were ported to the Vita, PS3, or PS4, it would be absolutely breathtaking, because its aesthetics are great. The camera controls are also a little frustrating, since the PSP only has one Analog stick, but the ability to lock on to foes does help it a ton, and keep it from being too frustrating (a lock-on toggle would be nice, but for all I know, the game actually has one, and I just can't read enough Japanese to find the option).
Apart from those points, however, the game is great. The combat is incredibly fun, and I don't even know all the details. I've figured out most of the basics, and even Countering, but I don't know any of the customization details, and I can't be sure I even know all the commands. Ace is probably the easiest of the characters that I've seen so far to play, as his basic attack is ranged (very helpful, especially since enemies can be on ledges or other places you can't reach, and he doesn't have to rely on Magic to get them).
The story (what I can understand of it) is really, really interesting. The game starts in the middle of an invasion of the country of Suzaku by the Milites Empire (there are four major countries in the game). Each country has its own crystal which can be used to draw special powers. Suzaku's crystal is the crystal of magic, so its armies are more traditional medieval warriors and such, wielding magic and riding war chocobos. Milites has the weapon crystal, so its armies carry firearms and use mechs. The crystals can also create l'Cie (they work somewhat differently from the way they did in XIII, but the basics are familiar). These l'Cie are bound to the will of their Crystal, being given a Focus and a lot of incredible power. It was an attack by Milites's l'Cie which broke into Suzaku and kicked off the plot. Among other powers (like animating an army of mechs), the Milites l'Cie seem to be able to power an anti-magic field generator, which is responsible for Bahamut's ignoble defeat in the trailer.
The story follows "Class Zero", a class of military cadets from Suzaku who carry some strange powers. They possess, among other things, the ability to tear MP from the bodies of their fallen foes, and a seeming immunity to the anti-magic field, which allows them to drive off the opening invasion.
So I'm really enjoying it so far, and I am really flabbergasted by the fact that it started as a cell phone game. This game is too ambitious for the PSP, it's way too much for a cell phone. This really is one of the best games that I've seen from Square Enix in quite a while. You could port this game to a full console easily (though I'm hoping for a translated Vita port, if we ever get an official localization), and, if promoted, this probably would have been one of the most beloved Square titles since the Playstation days.
If you can get a copy, do so. It's well worth it. And I cannot wait for the translation.

I don't read Japanese either. Nevertheless, you can pick it up fairly easily, you just can't get too deep into the systems.
Not being able to read any of the ability names means I'm kind of out of luck for picking which abilities to train or even how to swap them out.
But Ace is easy to pick up, and the controls are really intuitive. Most of the systems will even explain themselves if you stick with it long enough.
Controls:
L Button - Brings up the quick menu (let's me switch characters with <- and ->, but that's all I know about this menu)
R Button - Centers camera behind player, or Locks on to a target (huge help, since it also lets you see Counter indicators)
Analog - Movement
D Pad - Camera (useless)
Triangle - Primary Attack
Circle - Special Ability (Unique to character, utilizes a gauge which charges as you attack)
Square - Magic
X - Block/Dodge
The gameplay itself is really fun. Like Kingdom Hearts but with no jump ability. Each character plays pretty differently, with different attacks and abilities. And you can at least tell where to go on a map without needing to understand the language.
As I said, I got this in anticipation of the fan translation (which I've plugged twice in the Type-0 forum but nobody seems to be interested in), which is looking really good, and the video previews of their translation can give you an overview of the setup, enough that you'll be able to tell what's going on as you play through (most of it, there is one set of scenes that are a little disjointed involving members of the Milites military, but since they don't interact with anyone I know, they could be doing anything).
Honestly, I cannot recommend this game enough. It really is some of the most fun I've had with a Square title in a long time. It's pulled a lot of good elements from all over their works (I can see influence from VIII, VII, Tactics [the original], KH, and plenty of others), and combines them into an absolute gem. Check out the promo vids (http://skybladecloud.wordpress.com/projects/final-fantasy-type-0-english-translation/) on the translation page, and then try to get at least the Japanese demo. This game is great.

I started Final Fantasy IV Advance a while ago. I'm now flying all over the world trying to find out where to go. I noticed a town called Mythril and an isolated cave next to it, but the latter seems unreachable.
The combat system is still a mystery to me. The damage dealt by attacks seems to be pretty random, ranging from 200 to 900 in some cases (against the same enemy). Sometimes a character randomly gets two turns in a row even though their ATB gauge reset (seems like a glitch). Many weapons have a rather absurd miss chance (Rosa is the only character who can reliably use bows).

Tokyo Jungle, mostly. I unlocked much of the predator class animals up to cheetah. Trying to get the bear (which you unlock through hyena) and the panther (which you have to unlock through the cheetah) is a bitch.
Also, I've been dabbling in Tekken Revolution. It's not bad. It's pretty good for a free-to-play, though.

Playing some old psone classics on my android tablet with an emulator. Right now I'm playing Alundra which reminds me a lot of Zelda A Link to the Past. It's about a young man who can cross into people's dreams and must defeat boss battles and solve puzzles that are causing some of the townsfolk to have nightmares. It's a very action oriented rpg with many puzzle elements mixed in, very solid with a great story. And I'm also playing Arc the Lad 1 (part of the Arc the Lad Collection) the first game in the series is a lot like Shining Force except there's very little time spent exploring instead it focuses more on battles more than anything else although I must say this game is beautiful, some of the cutscenes are very good for a 2D RPG.

So in the very first post of this thread, on 1st June 2010, I said...
Finally, I just downloaded and installed Final Fantasy IX and played through to the first save point. It's enjoyable so far, although I find myself realising how much I loved certain aspects of Final Fantasy XIII, including, to my surprise, the linearity! Obviously I'm only a small way in but it just seems like it's so easy to get lost now. xD Crazy. And I can never tell if my decisions are going to affect what items I get. I'm suddenly far more paranoid while gaming than I was during XIII, when I pretty much knew I could easily get everything. xD Not criticising, though... just finding it amusing that I miss something that at the time can easily be considered to be annoying.
Well. Right now. THE END. Finished. Only took me three bloody years.

Played a lot of Scribblenauts Unlimited over the past couple days. Saw credits, gotten all the Starites and shards from the levels but need to do object shards which are gonna take a while (since I wasn't really aware of them until after I got the other 80-some Starites), so I'm taking a break from that.

Just finished the single player in Battlefield 3 on the PS3. Some parts were decent, but there was an awful lot of silly bullshit in that game that made it stupidly annoying to play through. DICE really need to stick to multiplayer and stop pretending that they know how to balance a single player shooter, or that their fans even want to play one to be honest.

I know how you feel but I honestly felt like it was pretty incredible just how unpredictable, realistic, and downright frightening it was to play a lot of those levels. You really see what it's like to be in a jet, in a tank, or an onslaught of soldiers charging a stronghold in the night. The H.A.L.O. Russian jump was just plain fantastic as well, even if the gameplay was a little underwhelming one you landed.

Honestly, I think the jet and the tank missions were the only ones I really liked. I played on normal, and not only did you still die in a disturbingly small number of shots, you could rarely see your enemies, but they could always see you the second any part of you was in the open. I spent more time being so unbelievably careful that I was barely moving, could rarely see anything, and often got shot to death while trying to figure out where the hell the enemies were. Which lead to a lot of stupid deaths at the hands of enemies I couldn't even see who had no trouble shooting me to death when the only thing poking out was the top of my head and they were blind firing from behind a pillar (I kid you not, that last part happened). Of course, this was made even worse by some truly awful checkpoint placement in some spots.
It just didn't jive with me. I appreciate that they were trying to go for a fair amount of realism, and in reality most of your time would be spent ducking behind cover and peeking out to shoot at guys that you may not be able to see very well behind their cover, but honestly, most of the levels and enemy designs were so bland that trying to decipher what was going on onscreen sometimes was nearly impossible. It felt like in the push for realism they managed to bring in all of the things about fighting an actual war that make for a really bad game.
Also, fuck them for not letting me play with no auto-aim unless I went to the hardest difficulty. I'm glad I didn't because it was unnecessarily hard as it was on normal.

You're close all right. Only a few more. Yay.
So, you hit the "Lucina tries to kill the Avatar" moment, then. That was the moment that actually inspired my recent fanfic (although, again, I always have my Avatar romance Lucina, which makes it even more awesome, because it changes that scene to be way more heartbreaking). But you still haven't quite found enough of the plot to read it. So keep it up!
Also, you need your Avatar to romance someone, so you can pick up the Avatar's kid.

Damn that sounds nuts! I actually paired him with Lissa and got Owain. Not sure if that was a good idea. I also remembered I got Anna the merchant from the paralogues. I've just been grinding a lot getting ready for the final push. The game is just pure fun to play but I wish they had a deep customization system to make all the required grinding more enticing.

Away from my own game collection I experimented somewhat my housemates' collection (which mostly consists of the most triple A of AAA's).
Went through the CoD Black Ops campaign. Think it's the weakest CoD campaign I've played so far. Highlights were the Sympathy for the Devil part and the gas suit part, but the rest was pretty generic. Confusion is the word that sums up the story.
Gave Assassins Creed 2 a try. And by the lords does Ubisoft try hard to reach a broad audience. Slow paced as smurf, holding hands like a creepy uncle, and so much useless, disgusting, meaningless dialogue. I refuse to play this any further.
Started a Gears of War 2 co-op campaign with my housemate. Lol at the character design, so much brawn. The reloading mini-game is fun. I somewhat enjoy this co-op massacre, though I know it won't be in my memory for long.
But man do I miss Dark Souls. Hopefully I can go back to Hotline Miami soon for my fix of more challenging game design.

Saints Row The Third, which is hilarious and wonderful. But I also started Spec Ops: The Line while the fiancee is out of the town. It is intense. The gunplay is really well done and the story is compelling, but it's not exactly what I'd call fun. It's like Silent Hill with no supernatural macguffins, just the horrors of war.
It's not particularly dense with its commentary, but I think the whole experience would be lost on someone who doesn't analyze their games critically. I'm happy I'm playing it, despite what will obviously be a short campaign (but it doesn't really need to be long).

Will probably be metal album of the year; I can't see anyone topping this. Can't wait for my vinyl copy.
Sadly I can't find this track on YouTube yet but they've put the whole album on Spotify. I think [COLOR=#38e897]this (http://open.spotify.com/album/1qhgbP27HYf4iCiLbquXys) is the link.

Well, almost done with Shin Megami IV. I figured early on there was going to be a third route to go to end the game, a nuetral route, and the moment I realized that would happen I tried gunning for it.
I was stressed as smurf though when I could only seemlingly do two paths, so just picked the Chaos aligned path, and later checked where I screwed up on the Nuetral path. Turns out I didn't screw up at all, and the last path just opens up afterwords, so Nuetral ending here I come!
Glad, because neither of the other options are good ideas. I mean I can understand the mentality, but smurf.
This will spoil pretty damn major plot points, so I'd avoid it unless you've beaten the game. :p
Law involves keeping the current status Quo of the seperated lands and using reds to keep the demons at bay. Reds are human brains made from what is basically a human harvesting farm of humans raised specifically for red creation.
Chaos involves siding with Lilith and allowing the strong to shape the world as they see it.
Really at this point you are just choosing what kind of Tyranny better suites you. Given the shear state of trouttiness of Tokyo however, and the extreme class system (Something that the game doesn't do that well to show saddly) of Makado, you really can see where everyone is coming from here. Still though, those are some trout options to weigh.
Edit:
Oh, and there is the bad ending where....
You activate the Large Hadron Collider and cause it to go berserk creating a black hole that destroys the universe.

I've been naming all of my dudes after EoFF staff so far. Many of them are in their second iterations, but Raistlin has by far performed the worst so far. I'm up to Raistlin number 4 so far. Granted, he's always an assault class for some reason and I almost always run him forward to capture aliens alive which means he's in considerable danger on almost every mission.

playing Pokemon Sapphire. In recent years I've played Pokemon "the wrong way" as in pretty much just using one Pokemon for battling and only catching others as needed as HM slaves. but in preparation for X&Y which I am super excited for and want to play the right way, I've actually been like, training a TEAM. I just beat the Weather Institute this morning and my current traveling team consists of (I can't remember the levels exactly so these are guesses):
HerdULike, Marshtomp (F), Lv. 32
Denmark, Aron (M), Lv. 27 or 28
Sam, Kirlia (F), Lv. 28 (SASSY nature :p)
Phil, Ninjask (M), Lv. 26
Zig, Zigzagoon (M), Lv. 3, HM Slave (Cut, Rock Smash. best early game HM Slave in gen 3)
I'm not sure why I named my Nincada/Ninjask Phil. Other EoFFers are also Pokemon but they're all BOXED. I have a couple birds for Fly and a Tentacool for the non-useful Water HMs (Waterfall and Dive) but I don't think my battle team is gonna change all that much from the 4 I'm currently using. And I will catch but not battle with Kyogre when the time comes.

im pretty much against HM slaves :P
instead i make sure that i have different types of pokemon, each capable of 1 of those HM's (except for flash!) that way all pokemon are still usefull, and so are the HM moves you teach them.
i am not a collector at all, i only catch the 5 pokemon that i need to get through the poke-league (+ the starter) that way you wont waste precious battle-exp on pokemon that will eventually end up in the box anyway
i pretty much have my Pokemon team already set up in my mind before i start the game.

srsly. Waterfall and Surf are the only useful ones. Though, I'd recommend using an HM proficient Pokemon as a sixth one until the Elite Four. Usually saves room for far better moves. Though in the later games you can finally remove HM moves at the Move Deleter's house.

Because you literally have a multiple choice, single button ending selection.

Having come off a Game Dev Tycoon kick due to patch 1.4 I've graduated to the far spergier and more detailed GameBiz 3. It's made by a German or Dane or something whose English is less than perfect so one does things like "Develope game", and the UI is the shittiest shit I've seen since 1989. On the other hand if you want you can make videogames for damn nearly any system or OS you can imagine. I'm not just talking about the fact the game starts early enough for the ZX Speccy and the C64 to be choices, I mean you can devote yourself to putting out superb games on the Texas Instruments' TI-99/4A or the MSX or VIC-20 if you want to. Better still the game is enormously more reactive than GDT, so if you consistently put great games out on a console that console might start selling better. Or you can make your own - I've not done that yet but I was reading someone else's trip report and he made a console so successful it beat up the SNES and drove the Genesis into oblivion and SEGA exited the console scene like 7 years ahead of schedule.

Shin Megami Tensei II/Supreme 32
Wing Commander: The Kil../Supreme 32
Muppet Treasure Island/Supreme 32
Stars!/Supreme 32
