It's not what it means that doesn't fit in. If you think "Dilly dally" is appropriate to be used in serious conversation, you're obviously not familiar with people using it. "Dilly dally" is not formal, it's informal. An as for being taken seriously, you've just claimed to be familiar with two terms that you've just demonstrated you know nothing about.
