Is it the Buster Sword? I suppose you could say it gives you priceless power at the beggining of the game, it's with you when you see some things to cry for, and it was there when Zack was killed. Although there is an optional flashback that shows you the event of his death, you don't really see him die.
That may well be it, but I'll guess Vagrisk Claw just to put out another guess.
To diverge from Enjolras' point, is it the Gatling Gun? Like the Buster Sword, it is used in the 'early hours' (beginning of game) and is 'priceless' (you cannot sell it), and the whole thing with Barret and Dyne for the last two lines?

No, you get the God's Hand on Disc 2 right before you try to get the blue sub. It's the Grand Glove you get from the Madouges in the Mythril Mine. I have a feeling that's wrong, though. I'll guess Cosmo Memory.

It's not God's Hand, Grand Glove, Cosmo Memory (item/skill) or Great Gospel (item/skill).
Also, a minor hint: It's not any of the Limit break learning items.
