The enthusiasm seems to be coming from those claiming to have supernatural beard-growing capabilities, but refusing to enter the contest!
I think the participants are doing an excellent job and I'm proud of them. We can't all be mountain men~
Not refusing... just ineligible. Of course, my place of work would give me a funny look if I just stopped trimming my beard and looked like a grizzly bear in a few months time.
I'm half tempted to just let it go until I can't stand it any more and post a pick anyway.
I'm not refusing to enter, you're refusing to enter me in to it and well I posted pics to prove my growing capabilities, reminds me, my moustache is in need of a trim, the hairs are beginning to cover my mouth. We're on day 19.
Enough. You're not entering because you're not following the rules. Don't turn this around on me.
I don't want the participants to be discouraged! I'm sure by this Wednesday we'll have a nice amount of growth from everyone. I'm excited. The first couple weeks are probably the most difficult to really notice progression, but afterwords, i'm sure we'll have plenty of grizzly men.

I'd say that's terribly inaccurate. The first weeks are when you most notice the distinct difference between clean shaven and pre-beard stuble. Once my beard is around the 2 week mark I stop noticing it filling it. I notice when, like Iceglow mentioned, there becomes lip coverage or parts of it become unwieldly.
Sadly I shaved this morning, but I'm tempted to not shave for 2 or 3 days and take a picture of the neckline of my beard to show you my point, that early stubble sticks out like a sore thumb.
I'll post a really old picture of my goatee when it was about half it's full length just to add a picture to the thread. To be fair it was probably about 3-4 months growth at this point.
I don't mean to discourage really. Just playful ribbing. Some people just don't grow much facial hair. While I love my beard, I envy them quite often considering how often I have to shave. Same deal with my fingernails. I've gotta clip and file them at least once a week and they are beastly... I'm sure some girl out there with paper-thin, slow growing nails would love to trade me.

Sadly I lost the goat and the hair (by that time mostly down my back) to that b**ch teacher in college. She tried to make me shave all of my facial hair. I at least drew the line there.
I never really though of myself as looking like Seth Rogan, but I can see it when the hair is that length. I look even more baby faced than him when I'm clean shaven though.
