Whilst back in England, I got some time alone with my Xbox and Dark Souls. I entered Blighttown via the non-Master Key route.
The bastards in Blighttown are... well, bastards.
I decided to put it on the shelf shortly after, because I only had two days of available playing time, and I didn't want to have to suffer anymore teary goodbyes.
You are definitely going to suffer an inordinate amount of deaths. Godspeed, my brave and foolish friend.
Here's hoping Kirk's Spiked Shield and the Skeleton's Bonewheel Shield drop early, thou brave soul. Don't forget to complete Siegmeyer of Catarina's sidequest up until Blighttown!

OnTopic: Made my Pure strength build last night. 10 minutes after startup I was already at andre, good time. Spent the next 4 or so hours farming and upgrading. My Vit was at 11 well into the 30s due to huge stat requirements for gear.
Gonna make him a darkwraith too, invading in the dukes will be oh so fun.
Currently in sens waiting to get summoned so I can upgrade my pyro flame to +10 and talk to quelaana to get some fun pyromancies. Funfact: This is my first build to use pyro, sue me.
Using the sack, large club, balder shield, and hard leather pants. Once I get some more endurance, my character will be one terrifying red phantom, oh yes he will.

Trying to plan ahead for the good miracles, so...(SPOILER)What do I have to do to ensure that Rhea doesn't die in the Undead Parish after saving her from the Tomb of the Giants?
After saving her, you're going to have to Spoilerkill Petrus of Thorolund at Firelink Shrine. You can actually beat Nito while you're at the Tomb of Giants, but after killing one or two more bosses Petrus will kill Rhea. So I'd recommend taking care of Petrus right after you rescue Rhea or right after you beat Nito.
Easy enough, wasn't sure if there was some sort of side-quest I was missing out on!

You'll get something nice when you kill the mimic.
Try pyromancy. If the glove isn't leveled up, I would recommend you take the time to do so to prepare for a future encounter.
i just ended up being extra careful and did the job with the sword
