The one thing I don't get is that statement was:

I have asked a friend to call me during a date so I'd have an excuse to leave. It backfired
Now, I'm not one to criticise anyone's grammar, but the scenario was clearly in the Past tense. Yet the "I have asked" section is clearly present tense. There's definitely a clash here between the timelines (Starting to sound like XIII-2 here)

Now, every other statement which was a Bley's patented lie was in the correct tense for the statement. This one however, is not. Given that the story was before Rantz was even on EoFF which is quite an eternity, why then would it be in present?

I'm not saying that it's a truth, YET. Bleys could have mixed it up by deliberately confusing tenses to throw us, however I do doubt Bleys would be so conniving that only on our last go, would he do this trick.

On the other hand, Rantz could have made a slight error in his statement that was accidental. But at the end of the day, Bleys, for me, wouldn't have confused tenses together. Even if this was a Bleys lie, and and Bleys fully intended for it to be "I have asked", Rantz is with Shorty now in the present tense. I don't think Bleys would make it that strikingly obvious.

    Thoughts Team?

    Calling all Quins.
    Jack: How do you know?

Will: It's more of a feeling really.

Jack: Well, that's not scientific. Feeling isn't knowing. Feeling is believing. If you believe it, you can't know because there's no knowing what you believe. Then again, no one should believe what they know either. Once you know anything that anything becomes unbelievable if only by virtue of the fact you now... know it. You know?

    Will: No.

If Demolition Man were remade today

Huxley: What's wrong? You broke contact.
Spartan: Contact? I didn't even touch you.
Huxley: Don't you want to make love?
Spartan: Is that what you call this? Why don't we just do it the old-fashioned way?
    Huxley: NO!
    Spartan: Whoa! Okay, calm down.
Huxley: Don't tell me to calm down!
Spartan: What's gotten into you? 'Cause it sure as hell wasn't me.
Huxley: Physical relations in the way of intercourse are no longer acceptable John Spartan.
Spartan: What? Why the hell not?
Huxley: It's the law, John. And for your information, the very idea that you suggested it makes me feel personally violated.
Spartan: Wait a minute... violated? Huxley what the hell are you accusing me of here?
Huxley: You need to leave, John.
    Spartan: But Huxley.
    Huxley: Get out!
Moments later Spartan is arrested for "violating" Huxley.

By the way, that's called satire. Get over it.

"I have asked" is fine, grammar-wise. The present perfect can be used to refer to an unspecified time before now, so it suits the sentence fine. Trust me, I'm an english teacher.

Based on Rantz's answers, my gut tells me its a lie. Plus, while "I have asked" is fine, it does seem a little more Bleysian in nature.

##VOTE: LIE, but for the love of god, please bear in mind that I have a 0% win rate in this game. xD

Oh! Fair enough. I guess it is fine, but now the question is would Rantz really write "like" that though? My natural instinct, being English, is to just write "I had asked a friend". While now I know "I have" is fine, it's a really roundabout alternative way of saying it. I'm torn now, I really thought I could capitalise on this, but now I'm not so sure.

I'll have to think about it, yet again were split. I'll return later tonight and finalise things. Summary time!

    Mercen-X: ##VOTE: TRUTH

    Quinter Wonderland: ##VOTE: LIE

Point of interest: "I had asked" would be incorrect in the statement.

Hm. In this context, an American would use past simple (I asked) in place of present perfect (I have asked) with no qualms - as would a foreigner who learned english from an American - whereas the present perfect, in British English, is the only acceptable tense in that sentence.

I've no bloody clue where Bleys is from, to be honest. I'm pretty sure he's English, so I'm pretty sure this is a lie. Foreign speakers are more likely to use American grammar, due to the prevalence of American teachers and books. This is fun. Someone look up posts from both of them and find out how they spell "colour".

I think Bleys is Canadian, if SoL's visitor messages are anything to go by. I could be wrong though, because for some reason Bleys decided not to visitor message back, instead using a PM or something.

I find this one difficult, but then that's becoming a recurring theme with me. On one hand, I can sort of see how Rantz can be that inept at dating in his youth that he would do something like that, but then again I like to think Rantz has morals and ethics, and wouldn't just ditch a girl by an "emergency". Then again, I could be giving him too much credit

Also, while Quinter has provided great English knowledge that matches my brother out in Japan. However, based on the above point about Bleys being Canadian, I think, his point could be ineffective here. It's definitely tricky, and I am most likely wrong as I often am, but I am going say:

    Mercen - X: ##VOTE: TRUTH
    Quinter Wonderland: ##VOTE: LIE

    Formalhaut: ##VOTE: TRUTH

I am most likely wrong on this, and if I am, I am very willing to perform seppuku.

Seppuku not necessary. Just stick with septiku.

    Rantz's ungentlemanly gambit is...

    A LIE

I had such a hard time not responding to this. I refute it thus:

"I have been, and always shall be your friend." ~ Spock, The Wrath of Khan

So after 5 rounds we have a tie game, which means we're going into sudden death, and I'm going to need some consensus here.

The original plan was to select a hotseat player completely at random, with the game deciding point going to the defending team if the attacking team got it wrong, but since Quin's replaced in late in the game and hasn't had a turn in the hotseat, I think it might be appropriate to just put him in the hotseat by default.

What's it going to be, random choice, or Quin?

If I get any sort of consensus from the 6 of you, I'll follow it. If 3 of you say random and 3 of you say Quin, the tie-breaking decision will go to the first non-Quin person to make predictions in the audience thread that I see online at the time.
