The Cover materia found in the church where you first meet Aeris.

If this is the answer Karifean can have a go at it, I like being on the guessing side of the riddles.
Then I guess Karifean is up, because you're absolutely correct! :D

Well, not absolutely. It's actually outside her house, but seeing as it was a pretty easy riddle, someone else would've got it soon enough anyway.

Shinwa Tsuki

The last post was more then 3 days ago - for me it is only 2 more days before a week has passed. I'll post a riddle if Karifean doesn't wish to go.

Shinwa Tsuki

Anyone planing a riddle, if not give me time and I will get one ready.

Khimbar2775

uhm, im not... i vote go for it and bump the thread :)

Shinwa Tsuki
09-21-2010, 10:20 PM
Give me a bit.

Edit:
Here's my riddle.

A kunteki of the Lunar creatures,
Whom unari at their mother.
Who am I?

Khimbar2775
09-23-2010, 08:34 PM
wait, what? that all seems greek to me. and i dont know greek. shot in the dark: baddies found in the cave of the gi behind cosmo canyon?

Shinwa Tsuki
09-23-2010, 08:44 PM
Not quite. It's a monster, yes. But in a very different location. Try looking at the italic words..... I'll translate them after 5 more guesses.

BG-57
09-24-2010, 03:41 AM
I'm going with Jumping. The reason being 'lunar creature' may refer to the rabbit of the moon.

Shinwa Tsuki
09-24-2010, 04:38 AM
*Laughs out loud*

That's not the creature, BG-57, that is being referred to. Also is Jumping a monster? If so, that's the wrong one.

MrSchpagge
09-24-2010, 04:23 PM
Did some research: Kunteki = master; Unari = growl

I could be wrong about the translation, but going off of this I'm going to say Gigas.

Shinwa Tsuki
09-24-2010, 04:47 PM
*sing song voice* It's not Gigas. *ends sing song voice* But your translations are correct.

PS: Gigas means giant in Greek, the term is usually for males giants.

MrSchpagge
09-25-2010, 06:44 AM
Lunar is capitalized, does that mean it's refferring to the Lunar series?

If that's the case I'm going to say the Black/Dark Dragon.

Shinwa Tsuki
09-25-2010, 02:48 PM
Uh, how is the Lunar series linked to FF7? But that's not the answer at all.

Karifean
09-25-2010, 03:25 PM
Edit: Ah, misread, sry.

MrSchpagge
09-25-2010, 04:50 PM
Uh, how is the Lunar series linked to FF7? But that's not the answer at all.

Lunar is capitalized, which means it's either being used a proper noun or it's a typo.

The Black Dragon from the Lunar series is the only enemy I could think of that shows up in FF7; there's the link. =P

Anyway, my next guess is Jenova.

Shinwa Tsuki
09-25-2010, 08:40 PM
Ah, I capitalized Lunar for no reason what so ever. And it's not Jenova either.

Shinwa Tsuki
09-28-2010, 12:31 AM
Been a bit, so here's the riddle reposted.

A kunteki of the Lunar creatures,
Whom unari at their mother.
Who am I?

Think about this: The answer could be considered a kunteki of this? This could help you a bit.

The Weapons ( the monster weapons not swords) Idk :P

Shinwa Tsuki
09-28-2010, 08:35 PM
It's not a Turk member - present or past.

It should help that you know that kunteki means master in Japanese.

Khimbar2775
09-28-2010, 09:38 PM
or by not using japanese at all :P

Shinwa Tsuki
09-28-2010, 10:51 PM
I'd rather use Japanese, when I can. I'll be editing my previous post for grammar&spelling mistakes.

MrSchpagge
09-28-2010, 11:45 PM
Sephiroth?

His clones could be considered lunar creatures, seeing as how their "mother" is an alien life form.

Shinwa Tsuki
09-29-2010, 04:21 AM
Nope!

Uh, try figuring out what Lunar creatures unari at their mother.

Kyros

Nanaki? Sense he's a wolf he growls

Shinwa Tsuki
09-30-2010, 04:48 AM
Uh, it not Nanaki/Red but the wolf is the creature I'm referring to.

Now, can anyone figure out what or who the kunteki is?

Carl the Llama
09-30-2010, 05:20 AM
The translated riddle.

A Master/Guide/Teacher of the Lunar creatures,
Whom groan/roar/howl/growl/bellow/sough at their mother.
Who am I?

So we are looking for a master of wolf's who growls at their mother... not sure who that could be... seeing as Nanaki has already been guessed, I am all out of idea's.

Shinwa Tsuki
09-30-2010, 05:30 AM
A few more guesses and I'll give a hint, as to what it is.

Melissaur
09-30-2010, 03:58 PM
Is it Seto, Nanaki's father?

MrSchpagge
09-30-2010, 11:01 PM
Damn, that was my next guess. Oh well. =/

What about the King Behemoth?

Shinwa Tsuki
10-01-2010, 05:23 AM
Well.... It's a monster that's for certain.

MrSchpagge
10-01-2010, 05:42 AM
Bandersnatch is the last wolf-thing I can think of.

Shinwa Tsuki
10-01-2010, 06:30 AM
Hint: on a train.

Sorry, but I'm not giving much more then that at the moment.

MrSchpagge
10-01-2010, 10:56 AM
Wow, I was way off.

If no one get's it in a few posts I'll go.

BG-57
10-01-2010, 02:18 PM
Wolfmeister. Fought on the runaway train.

Shinwa Tsuki
10-01-2010, 06:00 PM
That is correct, BG-57! It is the Wolfmeister, wolves howl at the moon, and werewolves would consider the moon to be their mother. Meister means master in, uh, I forget which language.

Khimbar2775
10-01-2010, 08:19 PM
german :P

BG-57
10-01-2010, 09:48 PM
Odd, I did a riddle on this guy once. Completely forgot about him though. :p

Looks really painful
Like the gag arrows
But it must work
On selling to Davey

FFIX Choco Boy
10-02-2010, 12:07 AM
Hmm...

Looks really painful - spikes?
Like the gag arrows - again, spikes?
But it must work - cannot fail?
On selling to Davey - Davey Jones?

No guess, just wondering. BG, you're riddles are always so far for me. I gotta stop thinking so inside the box with you.

Shinwa Tsuki
10-02-2010, 04:02 AM
Ah, yes. Meister could be German, but I think it is in many languages.

*laughs a bit* Is that so BG-57?

Could 'gag arrows' be referring to something in our world or theirs (FF7)?

BG-57
10-03-2010, 02:32 AM
FFIX Choco Boy,

Yes, line 4 refers to Davey Jones. Not spikes, but something sharp is involved.

Shinwa Tsuki,

It was originally German, but it has spread into other languages.

Gag arrow refers to our world.

Shinwa Tsuki
10-03-2010, 03:09 AM
Ah, okay.

Do the gag arrows refer to the 'arrow through the head' gag? As that's the only thing I can find.

Khimbar2775
10-03-2010, 10:18 AM
kinda makes me think of the scene where cloud runs sephy through with his sword, which then turns to sephy running cloud through HIS sword. oh, the irony...

BG-57
10-03-2010, 01:23 PM
Shinwa Tsuki,

Yes.

Khimbar2775,

Nope.

Mr Twisticles
10-03-2010, 03:02 PM
I may be completely off...
Seto?

Wow, people reply fast!

Khimbar2775
10-03-2010, 08:33 PM
palmer? something about the gag arrow thing makes me think of palmer, especialy at rocket town...

BG-57
10-03-2010, 09:41 PM
Mr Twisticles,

Not Seto.

Khimbar2775,

Not Palmer either.

does referring to davey jones relate to the crashed gelinka? isnt there a materia that you find in the hangar next to a downed chopper? its been *years* since ive played this game btw....

BG-57
10-04-2010, 09:59 PM
No, not the Gelinka. It's more to do with Davey Jones than his "locker".

Melissaur
10-05-2010, 03:15 AM
Ghost ship? like the move where he knocks one of your people out of battle?

Shinwa Tsuki
10-05-2010, 04:39 AM
Doesn't "Davy Jones" refer to the ocean depth?

If that's so, I have to wonder if the answer is linked to the submarine mini-quest?

BG-57
10-05-2010, 12:24 PM
Not Ghost Ship.

Nothing to do with submarines.

Davey Jones' Locker is indeed a nickname for the depth's of the ocean (actually 'Davey Jones' is a nickname for the Devil, like 'Old Scratch'). However I already said it wasn't the locker.

Think of people that would use that term.

Shinwa Tsuki
10-05-2010, 02:08 PM
Ah, didn't know that.

Pirates are the ones who say "Davey Jones' Locker", if I'm not mistaken. And pirates are thieves on the seas.

BG-57
10-05-2010, 05:34 PM
Yes, so the answer is related to pirates.

Melissaur
10-05-2010, 06:36 PM
the only pirate looking guys are the enemys that steal you stuff in the prison

Shinwa Tsuki
10-06-2010, 12:09 AM
Hm, pirates and the 'arrow through the head' gag.... I'm a bit lost.

Does the gag arrow related to looks painful but is harmless? Or to the answer being a joke or prank in some fashion?

BG-57
10-06-2010, 12:40 AM

Not those guys.

Hm, pirates and the 'arrow through the head' gag.... I'm a bit lost.

It's not a gag, but it might inspire that reaction if you thought it was real.

Ah. I'm out of ideas right now.

BG-57
10-25-2010, 07:36 PM
Nope.

Shinwa Tsuki
10-25-2010, 10:17 PM
Dang!

Some that looks painful but is really harmless. And it's related to pirates....

Is it an item?

Melissaur
10-25-2010, 10:22 PM
I really have nothing for this riddle

Carl the Llama
10-26-2010, 03:42 AM
Unlikely I know but is it the monster that you can encounter with the thief's that heals you before dieing in the place below the gold saucer?

BG-57
10-26-2010, 12:35 PM
It's not a monster/enemy.

Shinwa Tsuki
10-26-2010, 04:47 PM
Care to give a hint?

BG-57
10-26-2010, 10:00 PM
Certainly. :)

It's connected to a specific location.

Shinwa Tsuki
11-01-2010, 09:46 PM
It might have something to do with the Underwater Reactor.....

BG-57
11-01-2010, 10:57 PM
No, but you're getting close.

Shinwa Tsuki
11-02-2010, 02:13 AM

It's not a monster/enemy.

BG-57
11-02-2010, 10:15 PM
You're going out to sea. Try going ashore.

Shinwa Tsuki
11-03-2010, 03:46 AM
Ah, yes, it's not a monster - totally forgot about that. Going ashore....

So the sea connection must be in our world.

BG-57
11-03-2010, 10:35 PM
Once you get the location, the rest should be easier.

Khimbar2775

the gas chamber in junon that contained tifa until the WEAPON blew a hole in the room?

Hollycat

BG-57
11-05-2010, 04:14 AM
No to both.

Melissaur
11-05-2010, 04:32 AM
Canon? its a place, in junon, and pirates usually have it?

Shinwa Tsuki
11-05-2010, 04:44 AM
The canon is also called the Scarlet Ray.... I'm thinking the submarine mini-game for some odd reason.

Hollycat
11-05-2010, 03:24 PM
in my game its called the sister ray

BG-57
11-05-2010, 10:13 PM
It's not the Sister Ray cannon.

Shinwa Tsuki
11-09-2010, 01:33 AM
The submarine mini-game, it starts at Junon. But I take it that's not correct. I think it may be Mr. Dolphin - the aquatic friend of Priscilla.

BG-57
11-09-2010, 03:28 AM
No to both. The answer is found inside Junon proper.

Hollycat
11-09-2010, 03:48 PM
It's not a character.

No, but you're very close.

Shinwa Tsuki
11-10-2010, 12:44 AM
Ah. Well, I'm out of ideas.

musenji
12-08-2010, 10:20 PM
That's what brainstorming is for! Okay so here's what we know, condensed into one nice neat post (I've not included the incorrect guesses so far because the hints here eliminate them all):

Looks really painful
Like the gag arrows
But it must work
On selling to Davey

-found inside Junon proper.
-not a character.
-not a monster/enemy.
-the answer is related to pirates
-nothing to do with the ghost ship
-something sharp is involved, but not spikes

"Is davey the shop keeper who has to hire girls who lure in buyers to sell stuff in junon, but the action just costs him money?"

"No, but you're very close."

Line 2 refers to the 'arrow through the head' gag. The answer isn't a gag, "but it might inspire that reaction if you thought it was real."

I'm off to Junon, to search out the answer!

[edit]...Well, I watched a let's play and didn't see anything there, and I'm playing through the game now. It'll be a little bit before I get there.

Hollycat
12-10-2010, 02:53 PM
wasn't there a guy in junon who has fake weapons?

BG-57
12-10-2010, 08:10 PM
It's found in one of the weapon shops.

musenji
12-11-2010, 09:19 AM
It's the poster of a skull and bones with a sword through the head, in the accessory shop in Junon.

The first two lines, then, are obvious. The last two are worded in a very tricky way. He means that the poster, having a skull and bones, works for the purpose of advertising to pirates. (And the sword through the skull says "ARRR! These be deadly useful items we sell.")

How long do solvers get to post new riddles? It used to be 48 hours but I figure that may well have changed...

I've looked through the thread a little bit, BG...looks like the answers have become a little more obscure on average since the older days. :D

BG-57
12-11-2010, 02:50 PM
Correct! Your go. :)

We can wait for a while so long as you make it clear you are going to post one.

I know, but some of that is due to the fact that we've had hundreds of riddles over the years and the more obvious ones have already been covered and I don't like repeating myself.

I do give hints, so hopefully it's not impossible. :p

musenji
12-12-2010, 07:45 AM
Yeah, I figured over time it's bound to happen. Either answers have to be more obscure, or riddles have to be more tricky. Depending on turnover of course. I could probably post one from a few years back and it would do fine...but I like writing them, so.

I'm gonna stick with the death theme. Seems cheery enough. :D

*****

Like heiroglyphs from old Egyptian days,
the "teller" is gone but the story stays:
Pharaohs to heaven must pay a great fare
with riches they often postmortemly wear.
Or, if that reading is quite incorrect,
and the item in question was meant to protect,
well clearly the wearer neglected to stay,
so perhaps we conclude 'twas a curse either way.

White/Holy Materia?

musenji

No but that's an excellent guess.

The first line is literal.

FFIX Choco Boy
12-12-2010, 04:48 PM
The murals painted on the walls in the room you find the Black Materia in, inside the Temple of the Ancients?

musenji
12-12-2010, 05:11 PM
Line one doesn't refer to actual heiroglyphs--just something like heiroglyphs. You've got the right idea though.

Bonus hint, the answer has nothing to do with any of the Ancients.

BG-57
12-12-2010, 09:18 PM
Is it the Combat Square where the floor is inscribed with something like: 'The Brave do not Fear the Grave'?

FFIX Choco Boy
12-12-2010, 10:06 PM
The tattoos on the failed Sephy clones? It's a little out of the box, but it can apply really well.

musenji
12-13-2010, 06:04 AM
Neither of those.

white materia
combat square floor
reunion tattoos

Shinwa Tsuki
12-14-2010, 04:21 AM
Anything to do with the Black Materia?

Edit: Gahh, posted a bit too late for that.

How about the four hidden special Materia which can only be obtained with a Chocobo?

musenji
12-14-2010, 05:52 AM
Nope, but if you give a bit of the reasoning behind the guess, I can give a hint to steer a bit in the right direction!

Shinwa Tsuki
12-14-2010, 06:57 AM
The four Materia (Knights of the Round, Quadra Magic, HP <-> MP, and Mime (or is that Mimic)) I am speaking are similar to hieroglyphs.... At least in some respect.... Or I'm just being a doofus/dimwit.

I guess a better question would be: Is it part of the background or something the player can pick up?

musenji
12-14-2010, 09:15 AM
Part of the background. :)

Bonus hint (I'm trying to keep this moving along): by "like heiroglyphs" I mean "the answer's in a picture".

FFIX Choco Boy
12-15-2010, 11:16 PM
I think I remember some writing on the walls in the Crashed Gelnika. Anything to do with that?

12-16-2010, 12:50 AM
Nope, the answer is in an actual picture. There are words with it, but they're not important--what matters is the picture itself.

I'm guessing you missed that post by me. :) Turtle paradise posters do not have a picture--and even if they did, the text is what matters on those.

Better question: Is it the player's POV? Or the character's POV?

-the answer/picture has nothing to do with the plotline

I'd say try to ascertain what the riddle is trying to talk about, even if you don't know where to find it. Lines 4, 6, and 7 are pretty key.

Melissaur
12-17-2010, 08:53 PM
Well if I have this correct Other than Midgar there is Kalm, Chocobo Farm, Fort Condor, and Junon left. I'm doubting it's at the Chocobo farm. The hint "the answer/picture has nothing to do with the plotline" makes me want to say it's in Fort Condor because that place is optional, but I don't recall anything that would fit the riddle there. Which leads me to believe it's in one of the houses at Kalm, and that's all I've got so far....

FFIX Choco Boy
12-17-2010, 08:56 PM
Mithril Caves are also on 1st continent, and depending on the way you look at it, Old Nibelheim and Old Mount Nibel could be considered on the 1st continent.

Shinwa Tsuki
12-18-2010, 03:57 AM
An armor of some sort? No, I think it's something related to armor. And I have a hunch that it is something worn after death.

musenji
12-18-2010, 05:02 AM
Meteor relates to the plotline, and isn't referred to on the first continent at all.

K I'll specify: the picture is something created by an NPC in the game.

It does have something to do with an item worn after death--in the picture.

Shinwa Tsuki
12-18-2010, 05:20 AM
Mmm, that leaves locations with a population, such as Kalm, to be the city or town which the answer is in. I wonder if the NPC and the picture in question can be viewed before or after Aeris dies.....

FFIX Choco Boy

12-18-2010, 03:44 PM
Nope, not dogtags. The thing in the picture is clearly dead but still wearing the item.

I really think BG should take a crack at this... heh heh heh...

BG-57

Is it the model of Midgar in the glass pyramid in the Kalm store?

musenji
12-19-2010, 01:27 AM
Nope, as mentioned (though not said quite so explicitly until now) the (in-game, two dimensional) picture is of a clearly dead person, still wearing some sort of item--and the item could be construed (as far as we know from the picture) as either decorative, or protective.

This is the sum total of the information that could be gleaned from the riddle itself.

Plus, there's a specific reason why you ought to know the answer. I wasn't talking necessarily about skill as a guesser (though of course you're a good one)--I mean to say: I know for a fact you have seen the picture. :)

Shinwa Tsuki
12-19-2010, 01:38 AM
Doubt is armor, a ribbon perhaps - no that not it either.... Doubt is materia..... Have a good reason to doubt Zack (when would you see that picture anyway?)....

Hmm, I'm a bit lost. Maybe water of some sort *looks puzzled*

musenji
12-19-2010, 05:40 AM
The item in the picture is not an item that any of the characters can wear. It's just in the picture. Sorry if that was implied, my bad.

Hint: the answer is found in Junon proper.

Are we still allowed to post logic help without guessing? I have ideas but no guess.

"slice" could be pie, pizza, OH! Hmmmmmmmm.....Barret referred to the upper sectors of Midgar as that "$^%@! floating pizza". Slice could refer to a sector, then. But nobody ever offers anybody else a sector of Midgar, ha. could refer to reactors, one per slice, and they work together to feed the sister ray which "cooks" stuff.

I don't actually think that's it. I think I'm way off with where I went with that...but it's a line of thought.

slice could also refer to the action of slicing.

I have this vague idea that it's about an NPC giving you something that they find useless. ...I don't think I've said anything here that obligates you as a riddler to respond. Just throwing ideas out there.

Also your riddles sound like four-line haiku. hahah

It's not Barret's analogy of Midgar.

Maybe they do because the lines don't rhyme and I try to keep each line a similar length.

Would-be small scale vandalism - uh, graffiti maybe
At times has large scale impact - some graffiti has a large impact
Black pawn attacks not black king - something related to chess? Or movement?
But may abet the white foray - Again the white foray could be linked to chess. But what is a foray?

Rantz
12-21-2010, 05:19 PM
Vandalism does not refer to graffiti. A foray would be an attack or raid in this context.

Crop
01-02-2011, 04:51 PM
Is it Jenova when you raid Shinra HQ in disk 1?

Would-be small scale vandalism - When she breaks out she just kills some random people
At times has large scale impact - But then kills President Shinra
Black pawn attacks not black king - She's being controlled by Sephiroth (pawn), but wouldn't attack him...I guess lol
But may abet the white foray - Opens the door when you get captured by Shinra

I don't usually like trying to solve these, because I hate coming up with my own but I got drawn into this one. On the chance I'm right, someone else kindly take my turn.

Rantz
01-02-2011, 05:18 PM
I'm afraid it's not Jenova, but very nice reasoning. Keep thinking along those lines, though the small-scale vandalism is much smaller - almost meaningless in itself.

Aerith's Knight
01-03-2011, 11:43 AM
Maybe the alarm when trying to get the Ultimate materia in the underwater sub area in Junon? I think it might have something to do with those materia, because that was ShinRa (pawn) striking at the king (Sephie).

I'm guessing it's one of those optional small textbox non-essential options you can make cloud do, like getting picked for Don Corneo, but then to do with ShinRa.

Rantz
01-06-2011, 12:42 AM
It does have to do with ShinRa. It's not what you said, though. It's part of the main storyline and not optional.

I'm going to give it another shot, since I just got past this point in my replay of the game and I think I can link the riddle to it. It's a bit more small scale.

Is it Mayor Domino when you're infiltrating Shinra HQ?

Would-be small scale vandalism - Some books in the library are mixed up.
At times has large scale impact - Holds the key to the password that you have to give the mayor.
Black pawn attacks not black king - He's just a figurehead (pawn) for Shinra (King). He doesn't directly attack them, but...
But may abet the white foray - He does give you the keycard to get further into the HQ.

Again, on the chance I am right someone else can take my go. It's just this riddle is driving me nuts.

Rantz
01-08-2011, 01:09 AM
Yes, very good! That's completely right. The mayor's small scale vandalism of misplacing books has a larger scale impact when it provides the key for Cloud and company to pass and do some serious damage.
