Just recently started playing Ori and the Blind Forest, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Gears of War. I stopped playing Persona 3 Portable a while back but I'd like to go back to it at some point as it was just getting good! The faster I complete it the quicker I can get on to Persona 4 Golden. Also my Tales of Xillia playthrough is on hold until I set my PS3 back up again.

Magic: The Gathering Online
Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth
Survarium

First two should be obvious as to what they are. The third is a online FPS set in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.T.A.L.K.E.R._%28series%29) world. It's free to play (pay to win) but fun. There's some different elements to the game play than say CoD or BF like, artifacts you can use to get special powers but, they cause radiation damage while attempting to get them. And pretty much all the guns are Russian/Eastern block so, I get to use my favorite guns as opposed to most other FPS games where the SKS ann Mosin aren't cool enough for them.

Let's see...

- Final Fantasy XIII-2

LOZ Triforce Heroes at the moment.

I find having to re-search for unknown heroes for every level a little tedious, especially after completing a level with people I've worked well with, you then are right back to square one searching for new heroes instead of being able to move to the next level with them.

Completed the game, just going for 100% now with all the different outfits. Enjoyable game though, just not very long!

Getting a PS4 though and it'll be hard not to get lost playing COD: zombies for years on end like I have done before!

Just played To The Moon the other day. It was great for an RPG Maker game, though not quite the *~*feels*~* experience that was promised.

Playing Rocket League on PC with Dayyyyn and Uncharted collection on PS4. I've only just started the latter and I'd never played an Uncharted game before. If Gears of War and Assassin's Creed had a baby, this would be it.

Tripped and fell into a store on Boxing Day, fell some more towards the counter with a 2DS and Yo-kai Watch in my hands, then accidentally played that for eight hours over the last two days.

Paul decided to put the band back together. In doing so we've found 2 new games to play. The first is Rocket League which is good fun but I must admit I suck at it. I never was one for playing football games and combined with the speed of the cars etc it's pretty tough going for me. The second game is Windward which was a little known entity that Dan found. I must admit that the game is great fun but it is very time consuming to grind up money for new ships. I've been working my ass off and I've only gotten to the 5th ship from the starter.

I discovered the space shooter "Summer Carnival '92 - Recca" yesterday and I have been struggling with it for a while.
It is probably the most intense NES game I have ever played, it's pretty much bullet hell with swarms of enemies and bullets flooding the screen all the time, and I always die a couple minutes after the second boss.

It is a really fun game though, it's one of those "hard-as-all-hell-in-an-addictive-way" types of games.
It feels a lot like an extremely hard version of Gun Nac, actually.

A while ago I randomly started playing "Kirby's Adventure" for the NES for the very first time in my life.
I think I played for about 15 minutes before I got a Game Over, and this happened while I was fighting some giant tree or something;
I believe it was Stage 5.
Anyway, I thought the controls felt slightly unintuitive at first, and I spent some time trying to figure out what exactly I was supposed to do in order to fly and use special abilities, but after that, it was pretty fluent.

That's my favorite Kirbeh game. >: D

I'm currently playing through Emerald Dragon on the SNES. So far it isn't terribly interesting, and combat is silly automatic since I only control the main character, but the story is moving around at a good pace and is a welcome break from the crazy grindfests that were Dual Orb II and Magna Braban.

What kind of deck have you played?

Thank you ;D

I mostly played a white/blue control deck. It has lots of disables like Claustrophobia/Pacifism to buy time to get some bug guys on the table. Shipbreaker Kraken (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=373637) is my favourite card from this one!

I played two rounds of 1v1 with a slippery red/blue aggro deck; lots of creatures that are hard to block (like Triton Shorestalker (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=380522)) combined with cheap buffs like Infectious Bloodlust (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=398582). This deck only seems to work 1v1 though and definitely has a time limit on it. It can't go late.

And lastly there's a Red/Green deck with mana boosting creatures like Whisperer of the Wilds (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=391957), stacking up big creatures and then trample the opponent to death. It does alright when the game is slow but gets destroyed by aggro kinda easily :erm:

Beat the main story of Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth and now I can start on these sidequests that unlock the Royal Knights. Rosemon Burst might be one of the best healers in all of gamedom, she has a Passive that gives everyone Auto-Regen and naturally learns the three best healing spells. On top of learning a skill that raises the parties INT by 10% and she has another skill that lowers the enemy INT by 10%. I also have Lucemon SM whose passive reduces damage received from magic attacks by 10% and converts it to HP. Essentially turning the party into magic tanks. And then I have Mastemon, who has an attack that does 25% damage to the enemy party and it works on bosses. And her passive increases Light and Dark damage by 10% and Healing Effects by 10%.

Just found out that on top of being the best healer, Rosemon BM is also a tank and DPS. She's quickly becoming my favorite Digimon.

Just played and finished Dragon Age II for the second time. I played with a Male Hawke this time and I loved the voice acting. Seriously, M!Hawke and F!Hawke are both equally fantastic.

What's strange after playing Dragon Age II after playing DA: Inquisition is just how surprisingly empty Inquisition is. I loved going through side quests and meeting so many colourful characters. In Inquisition, there's not many meaningful sidequests; quite a few don't even have a single cutscene, and are just simple fetch quests after reading a note or letter. Boring.

I got Fallout 4 back when it was released, but only really started playing it. I'm doing something different, I'm playing a sniper. I barely even touched Sneak in other Bethesda games. That's one of my friends favorite things too, I think in Skyrim his Sneak was his first to 100 and I can see why, shooting people in the dick from really far away is fun. And before the closest I came to a ranged character was when I started Oblivion with the intention of being a mage, that lasted a couple quests before I started cutting everything down. Even in New Vegas I played a brawler. But anyway, I'm a sneaky deaky snipe and shooty character.

Sneak is pretty fun in this game, I got it to where I don't trigger land mines anymore. Which is good because I first reaction to seeing the warning pop up is to look around and try to disarm it real quick. Doesn't usually end well for me. I did the Silver Shroud quest, that was a load of fun. Until the end because I wanted to do the optional step. I ended up taking some Psycho and having to use VATS to do it. Looked cool, the conversation ended and me popping his head off before before he could do anything. Took about an hour of save scumming to do it too.

Cait is my favorite companion so far. At first it just because of the accent. Then during the Reunions main story quest, I opened a box that triggered a shock trap. She just ran into it and yelled, "DAMN IT" and ran out. It was one of the funniest things. Then about halfway through the quest I got her affection high enough to trigger a conversation. And then at the very end of the quest during the conversation this popped up:
[Valentine disliked that]
[Piper disliked that]
[Cait liked that]
Yup, we're going to along just fine.

I'm sort of playing three games currently:

Main: Miles Edgeworth Investigations 2 (the fan-patch!)
Second: A first replay of The World Ends With You
LP: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

I enjoyed the first Investigations game so I decided to give the second a spin after Mr. Carny got back on the Ace Attorney series with the Apollo Justice game. He also recently finished TWEWY, so I wanted to replay that and enjoy the story. And Uncharted is my LP game, which I'm now trundling along at a steady, if slightly slow, pace.

Diablo III with a couple of friends. The first two Acts were too easy and boring, but after Act III the story got a little more interesting (still horrible writing though) and new difficulties were opened so the game got much more interesting. Can't wait to start Adventure Mode.

And I'm also playing Final Fantasy X HD. Great nostalgia bomb and this time I'm trying to do the 100% completion with all the achievements.

World of Final Fantasy was everything I ever wanted out of a single player Pokémon game (seriously, GameFreak, you just got schooled at your own genre), and a superb homage to the series. Loved it. Other than that, still chipping away at Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward, which is fun but a bit slow right now because it has been a while since a major patch (so, about two months or so). Really excited to see what happens next though. And I still have so much I haven't touched in the game even after all these years.

I love that this thread is still going strong after six years! Anyway, I just finished FF the first tonight, and I am being spread thin by how many freemium games I have ended up playing, with their play every day type setups. I play Hearthstone, Puzzle & Dragons, Fallen London, and even Neko Atsume, so yeah, always some game I should be catching up on. But once I got used to all those changes I was back to my hold annoying self. So much so that I had an enemy team to coordinate their efforts to kill me. I had an Orisa grab me, Mei put a wall between me and my team, Sombra hacked me, and McCree did his bullshit stun and fan the hammer combo. Man I hate McCree so much. I'm currently playing The Letter. It's a horror visual novel, and I'm actually really enjoying it despite horror not usually being my style. If you ever wanted to give visual novels a try I'd recommend this one, it's got good character development, your choices affect the story in MASSIVE ways (as opposed to just slightly different lines and a different ending), and there's even some mini games of sorts where you try and escape from the horror that's chasing you. It's pretty fun.

So when I got to Tiamat and didn't have Esuna, I panicked a little. But then I beat it and was like, oh that's not to bad. And then basically two screens later, the Elder Wyrm shows up. And I'm like, OH! This is the guy I was thinking of. And I still don't have Esuna! Penelo and Larsa were throwing out Curas because of all the Poison and Sap. I was worried that I'd end up putting points into Int and Attunement out of habit. But the Bandit's stats were so low that it wasn't even worth it. Like they were so low, Straid and Felkin wanted nothing to do with me. I did end with a STR/DEX build instead of a DEX build. Finished Dark Souls 2, and doubled back to finally finish the first one. Last thing I did story wise was beat Ornstein and Smough. It was funny people talk about how Dark Souls 2 is sluggish, but it's been awhile since I played any and jumping into the first one right away it's very noticeable. She chugs the Estus flask in this game. I've beaten Nito and Bed of Chaos. Couple things: First I've heard horror stories about Bed of Chaos. How's it's at the top of the everyone's list as worst boss in the series. Didn't really prepare me for it. My friend was telling me about a boss, and this was before I played even Bloodborne, he went on about how it was bullshit. And had no idea how to beat it and had to look up a guide. If it wasn't for him telling me that, I would've been in the same boat. Nothing up to that point prepares you for that fight. I can't even remember if jumping was required before hand. It really is a dumb boss. And lore wise, the Witch of Ilalith got shafted. That random pyromancer guarding the door was a better representation than that thing.

And second, why does Blighttown get so much hate when Lost Izalith exists? Everyone knows about Blighttown, even people who have never played know it's supposedly the worst thing in existence. Honestly I didn't find it any worse than anyplace else in the game. You just got to be careful and make your way down. And those knife throwing assholes stay dead. But Lost Izalith on the other hand is a giant headache. And I'm being literal. The first half of the level is covered in this bright glowing orange lava that gave me a headache. And there's these giant things, I can't tell what they are because that glow makes everything hard to make out. You'd think they'd stay dead, but nope they come back. And this glowy lava isn't just decoration, you have to travel over it. And to travel over it you have to use up a ring slot. And you only have two. And the second half of the level is full of fat fire breathing nutsucks that make an annoying sound when they aggro you. And giant toothy vagina monsters that spray you and destroy your gear. And to top it all off, the boss of the area is the Bed of Chaos.

tl;dr Lost Izalith is bad.

But on a brighter side. I grinding on Phalanx and was throwing my sign down just encase. And I was summoned. Cut down my grinding my five levels and I'm a Sunbro now.

Lost Izalith is a pretty sucky dungeon, and a large part of why Dark Souls second half undermines the rest of the game for me. As for Blighttown getting a bad rep, I almost feel that's because most people never played Demon's Souls and experienced the Valley of Defilement, which ranks as one of the most frustrating areas in all of the Souls series. Blighttown even follows the basic layout and structure of the Valley of Defilement with 70% less of the bullshit.

TrollHunter
04-25-2019, 09:11 PM
Valley of Defilement is infinitely worse than blighttown for sure. You can barely even see in the Valley. Blighttowns layout can actually be really interesting if tackled coming down from the depths. The verticality is a nice touch imo and makes both the upper and lower parts of the area feel distinct. Upper blighttown is genuinely tense at times due to the cramped area and the toxic dart dudes. What's neat is that since the dart dudes don't respawn the area doesn't feel unfair. If you can kill one of those guys you're still making progress even if you die. Upper blighttown is of course better than the boring flat swamp of lower blighttown and neither are particularly great areas but I think the hatred is overblown.

Lost Izalith/demon ruins meanwhile is a giant disappointment that just keeps going and going. I'd be less miffed if there weren't so many goddamn bosses. Ceaseless, firesage, centipede demon and bed of chaos. None of which are fun to me or engaging. Compare that to the usual 2(or 1) bosses for all the other areas in the second half and its easy to see why its a drag. It's a lazy, garbage area and I always dread going there. Even exploring it isn't fun. It's just a bunch of randomly pasted rehased minibosses in demon ruins and then more garbage in izalith proper.

Vermachtnis

I fought Ceaseless Discharge after Quelaag and forgot about him. Three mini-bosses and a puzzle boss, didn't even realize it. I beat it and yea, everything post Anor Londo is kind of disappointing. I only sorta like one and half levels. New Londo wasn't bad. There was only one room that was bad and it was right before the boss and could run through it and Tomb of the Giants was eh. I hated Duke's Archive. Skeleton Archers hiding behind mages hiding behind more archers hiding behind warriors. And the crystal cave just seemed pointless.

Weirdly enough, since I tend to hate these types of combat systems, I've been playing through Half-Life 1 and Fallout 4. I actually thought I was close to the end in Half-Life, only to learn I'm actually closer to the midpoint. For Fallout 4, I'm in typical Bethesda mode of being constantly sidetracked by other missions and I've now reached Diamond City despite having like twenty hours of game time going. For those wondering, it's like the third story mission in the game and I'm almost to level 20 and have Sanctuary well on its way to being a fortress city.

You should have a new D-Link that is Vanitas once you reduce his health to almost nothing, which will grant you most of his moves. The actual finisher meter only charges up when you clash with Vanitas using Dark Link Shotlock. You have to win by spinning the directional pad in the right direction faster than he can. You'll have to do it a few times to fully charge for a combo finisher which is Last Word which will end the fight when it fully connects.

I hit him with Last Word once, but it still didn't kill him. I was so mad! This game is frustrating me. I spent hours on this and then I accidentally tripped over my controller cord which knocked down my PS4 and caused it to turn off. I thought my PS4 was done for like a whole ten minutes before I figured out to turn it back on and now I'm back to the phase 1 part of the battle. I'm like ready to quit. it took me a long time to get there.

You said a D-Link? All I get is all of my moves turning into D Strike. I can't find a consistent way to get the meter full. If I idle the meter will just deplete. I looked up this guide, but his strategy did not work for me.

Witcher 3.

I played it when it came out in 2015 on the PS4, took a 10-11 month break and finished the game in 2016. I picked it up, the complete edition, during a Steam sale a few years ago.

I decided to finally play the Witcher 2 a few weeks ago and I just kept it going with Witcher 3.

Having watched the Netflix show and experiencing the second game, I've found I have a greater appreciation for the Witcher 3. It's also just a damn fun game. I also decided to play Gwent, the card game mini-game, this time around. Loving it. Definitely not a bad game to spend time with during this period.

I also picked up Civilization VI last week.

As the video shows, you basically have to spam the shotlock to get into that battle with his shotlock in order to charge up your finisher Last Word. What the video fails to mention it that Last Word has to fully connect all its hit to count as a finish, so you need to make sure you're locked on to him before activating it. You may simply need to charge up the attack a few times and wail on him with Last Word more than once because landing the attack is not a guarantee victory. The fight is really more about patience and Nomura dragging out the spectacle aspect of it.

Depression Moon

My issue is I have to wait for him to try and do it, but when I do the meter goes back down so I could never get it full again. I'll try one more time, but after that I'm quittin.

Edit: nevermind I got it now. I thought I had to wait for the red dots every time to get a clash. I just need to spam it and I can get lucky and get one. The Last Word actually killed him this time. I made sure to get in on him close before I did it. I'm surprised he just floated there and let me do it. I'm glad that bulltrout is over with.

I think taking a break is what helped me most.

Edit: Wait Wait, did I just beat the game? I thought it was going to have a scene where it would let me choose who I want to play as next. it looks like I'm going to have to create a New file to play the other two. I'm not looking forward to going back and dealing trout damage to enemies. I guess I'll skip to 2.8 then.

I felt like I got more confused from this story playing this game.

Wolf Kanno

Okay, you were right Fynn dealing damage is no longer a factor. I thought since I had to do a new file I would be going back to dealing shit damage to enemies, but Terra is taking them out quickly. I guess the game sorta saved my stats from Ventus's playthrough?

Kingdom Hearts story has been a mess since II, but Birth by Sleep feels especially bad to me and the gameplay doesn't make up for it as much unlike KHII. Jumps feel weird and the game's pacing is off. There are too many battles back to back without other things to change things up.

Lord Golbez
05-31-2020, 05:20 PM
Weird. For me social stats is the only thing I want to carry over in new game +. Why? Because it allows you to not have to spend any time on repetitive stuff like studying, let's you give stat linked answers that you might not have been able to do the first time around, and ace all tests without sacrificing anything. On the other hand, carrying over equips and personas makes the game easy to the point of boredom.

Depression Moon
05-31-2020, 07:20 PM
I don't have to use any of those personas or weapons and I there are like only two dialogue choices in the whole game that are dependent on a social stat and that's Guts in the beginning with Igor and Shido. Other folks have stated how New Game + kills the entire slice of life half of the game considering there's no point in doing any of it if there's 0 progression. I only wanted Guts to carry over since that's the hardest one to rank up.

For sure! The battle system becomes kind of broken as the game goes on (scouts, in particular, become absurdly overpowered, and I found that the demolition order basically rendered the entire lancer class obsolete), but it’s so much fun to play that I hardly care. Definitely going to continue with the rest of the series once I’m done with this one!

I have somewhat mixed feelings on Crisis Core too. The combat didn’t really click for me (I imagine it’d seem even worse after playing the VII Remake), and certain parts of the story felt pretty silly, even as someone who loves the story and lore in FFVII. But I grew to really like Zack over the course of the game, and if you get invested in him as a character, then the ending is very well done, and almost makes the whole experience worth it. I don’t think it’s really a must play, but I don’t regret running through it once. :)

The later games balance the classes better but Scouts are still great. I actually think VC 2 & 3 are overall better than VC 1, but they are PSP games and VC 3 only came out in Japan. I played a fan translated version of VC 3 and it was really fun. I haven't tried VC 4 yet but it's on my shelf.

I'm actually about eight hours into 3 just now. :) I tried moving straight on to 2 after I finished the first one, but while I appreciated the improvements it made gameplay-wise to VC1's formula, it felt like such a big departure tonally from the first game, and it wasn't really what I was looking for in a sequel. I might give it another go somewhere down the line when I feel ready to approach it more on its own terms.

Really enjoying 3 so far, anyway! I'm not a huge fan of how many generic battles it throws at you, and I kind of preferred the structure of the first game, where each compulsory battle is very much its own unique thing. But I can appreciate that the unique, large scale battles of the first game wouldn't have been practical on the PSP, and the game is still loads of fun to play, even when you're just slogging through the same maps against generic troopers. I also loved the cast of characters almost from the off, and it makes tons of really great improvements to the gameplay of the first game (I especially love the class change system, and how much more practical retreating / redeploying your troops is now). I can definitely see how you might prefer it to the first game despite the obvious technological downgrade when moving from PS3 to PSP.

And I had no idea that VC3 had been fan translated. That's really cool! I speak Japanese so I'm just playing it in the original language, but it always felt so weird that Sega hadn't localised the third game, especially as it was generally better received than the second. So it's great to hear that the whole series is available in English now.

I've recently been playing some old NES games on the Switch Online. There's a lot of great stuff in there. I've been playing Zelda 2, Startropics, Crystalis, Kid Icarus. They have a nifty rewind feature which is basically a cheat but it helps with the unforgiving difficulty of some of the 8 bit games.

Replaying FFIX, trying to use characters I've never really used (such as Quina) and doing the things I never fully completed (Chocographs/frog catching) to see how different the party feels compared to my old regulars Zidane/Steiner/Freya/Garnet.
