Assassin's Creed Brotherhood was amazing. Improved on the gameplay of AC2 in every way and added a bunch of new features that were actually really fun and not just there for the sake of new features. The story and breadth of the game was no where near AC2's level, but having your own team of assassin's to control causes you to forget about that.

Next up is Game of the Year candidate Mass Effect 3. I'm excited!

Finally started The Last Story, this game has some really intriguing game mechanics and design. The cast so far has been really likable and I love the party banter. The battle system is very different from what most people would expect from a JRPG but I like it even if it is a bit rough around the edges. The only complaints so far is that some of the standard NPC moving animations feel really robotic, I'm not sure if trying to animate teeth was a good choice, and the game feels very ambitious but hindered by lack of resources (either money or skill). Time will tell how it's all going to go down, but for the most part I like it. The plot so far feels like something out of a Suikoden game.

In the meantime, I am continuing my Zelda kick by playing A Link to the Past, which has been a blast, this game has aged beautifully and I enjoy that the dungeons are not the time sinks they would become in later entries.

On the PSP, I'm alternating from FFTactics WotL, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Both games are great but my own OCD tendencies burn me out between entries so I have to alternate to keep variety and interest going.

Just finished Sleeping Dogs and Portal (for what's got to be the 5th time). Now balancing between They Bleed Pixels and Fortune Summoners: Secret of the Elemental Stone. So far, I've enjoyed everything. Probably gonna try to balance those two with Scribblenauts Unlimited. Should be fun.

I've enjoyed playing Guild Wars 2. It's been enjoyable so far (nice combat system which reminds me of Seiken Densetsu 3 in a good way), and I love exploring the world (plus finding secrets!), randomly teaming up with people and having crazy adventures while also learning bits of lore along the way. :)

Just got Castlevania: Symphony of the Night from the Playstation store. Having a blast playing through one of the best games ever made. And when I have to surrender the TV, I travel to Skyrim on my PC. Also a pretty great game (would be fantastic if it weren't for the two billion bugs).

Still going through New Vegas when I get the chance. The holidays sucked a lot of time from me.

Did I mention me and the GF have been playing Yoshi's Island? We're halfway through world 5. I think we're gonna play Rayman Origins together after that. She also started Gran Turismo 5 which is pretty sweet. She's big into racing so I think she's getting a lot out of it.

Started Chaos Rings on my phone. It's interesting. Not sure how great it's gonna turn out but it's promising so far. Dead Space mobile plays great but is a really dumb game. Like super stupid. I wish I could get the same controls on a game that doesn't suck (GTA would be awesome).

I did a first session of Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery and I love it.

Also played some coop of Saints Row The Third with a buddy and goddamn I love it. I wish the netcode wasn't so laggy. I wanna figure out how to improve it so we can actually do stuff in the city. Loved it, otherwise.

NEXT UP: Daggerfall, and modding the living daylights out of Oblivion and trying to play that

I recently played Daggerfall as well, the size of that game is just mind-boggling. I always start my Elder Scrolls experiences by choosing a direction, and just walk until I run into something. Well, after walking for like 15 minutes and seeing nothing but plains and trees, I decided to check my map. That's when I realized I had moved like a pixel away from where I started on the map. And then I realized that was just the province map, not the world map. After a while I ran into a temple or something with naked women locked in the back(that was a real wtf moment), and eventually I was lost to the ages in the abyss of a ridicolously sized dungeon.

Back on topic though, right now I'm playing FFXII IZJS, and also Persona 4: Golden(best JRPG within a decade) and Dissidia Duodecim, which I bought for my Vita a week ago(great fun). I'm technically playing Mass Effect 3 as well, but I haven't touched that in a month. Just got bored with it, I guess. Could've just called it Mass Effect 2.5.

I just found a copy of Monster Rancher 3 lying around my room. I had no idea I owned this game, and I am about to play the heck out of this game.

I have never actually played this iteration of Monster Rancher, but I remember being in love with Monster Rancher 2 for the ps1 as a kid. I'd always have my sister bring it home when she worked at Babbages (now Gamestop). The day they no longer had it was one of the saddest days of my life as a kid. I hope it is as fun as I remember it being, haha.

I prefer the ability to create your own character to Morrowind's mandatory presets, and Skyrim's is less detailed (no blue Argonians :(), but the actual race designs are much better in both games. Although, I do find it hilarious that the Dunmer have rosy-red chubby cheeks. xD

Have you started the Thieves Guild and/or Dark Brotherhood questlines yet? They really are the highlights of the game. Also, Shivering Isles is where you'll find all of Morrowind's eccentric and magnificent scenery.

Just finished the main storyline of Batman: Arkham City and wow, did not expect that ending. Going to tie up a few loose ends in the coming days but beyond that, having to now decide what I play next is a very difficult thing. I really want to play Final Fantasy IX through to completion but I just can't get that into it like I have with other games - perhaps it's just PSP-syndrome, too much of it can dull a game down and it might be better if I play it on the PS3. I'm really keen on getting through the Myst series (with other EoFFers playing it at the same time so we can put our heads together at the harder points), but I also already have Ico unfinished and Dirge of Cerberus unopened for the PS2. Resistance 3 has been sitting around and I barely got into the early stages of that game with Danielle. I keep seeing things on my Facebook about Dwarf Fortress and I'm strating to get cravings for that, too... decisions, decisions. Oh, those first world problems. ;)

Of course, once Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is out, even in Beta, I know where all my time will end up. =x

After I had just killed a dragon (it was in that first village you reach in the game, I forget it's name), an NPC walked by the bones and said something like "People should be more careful about leaving things lying around for people to trip over." I burst out laughing.

He does seem like a bit of a crackhead, but he's still smexy...I have a huge crush on him. :p

As for the game so far? Battles are fun. I have the basic weapons unlocked: Rebellion, Arbiter, Osiris, and Ebony & Ivory. Having fun killing things and unlocking skills. Plot wise? It is alright, nothing phenomenal. The writing isn't brilliant, sometimes weird moments, especially when she-demon makes a parallel between herself and the world (now that it is Mundus' bitch) and that he should do what he does to her...To keep it PG-13. So yeah, that was kinda weird.

Skyblade

Firefall, the Beta.

Good game, but still needs a lot of work. The Recon class (which should be my favorite), is currently really borked, and plays as more of a demolitions expert than the Sniper it's presented as.

The objectives are fun, community is great, and gameplay is solid.

Downsides: The game is extremely unstructured. Sandboxes are fun, but there isn't enough structure to this one to make things engaging. It's currently just an exp/cash grind, without much else driving it.

This game and world has a ton of potential, and I really want to see where it goes. If they can firm it up and build on it, it'll wind up awesome. If not... Well, it will still show what an MMO can do outside the box. I could easily see this being adapted into, say, Mass Effect Online to great success.

And apparently I have a few invites to give out, if anyone is interested (though invites go out in waves, so it might just give you invite priority over the open sign-ups, I'm not sure).

@Pike: Every time I tried to get into Oblivion some annoying minor, but game breaking, glitch (usually in the Planes of Oblivion) would ruin my save and I would have to start over. Most of these things were eventually fixable with patches and whatnot, but it was like Oblivion was telling me that it didn't want me to play it.

I'm surprised nobody on here's mentioned Devon Pudebeyue's Morrowind mod for Skyrim: You didn't really fall for that, did you?

Currently getting deep into Mass Effect 3 and loving it, even if one of my quests bugged out on me and it featured one of my favorite characters too. I also bought Lego Lord of the Rings to play with my wife and it's really fun and has surprisingly good production value.

On the handheld front, I finally gave up on Persona P3P. Seriously, I don't know what the lot of you see in those games. The dungeon crawling is too repetitive and the social networking parts are too simplistic for me to get into. I can't even imagine how boring these games are on a console. So I dropped it like a bad habit and started up on Suikoden via PSN. Really only playing this to set up for Suikoden II down the road. Also, I'm pretty addicted to Theatrhythm Final Fantasy on my 3DS and just beat Phoenix Wright: Justice for All on regular DS. Wondering what I should play next on DS. Ghost Trick has caught my eye.

I was playing Mass Effect for about week and I beat it this morning and started Mass Effect 2. I'm not sure how I feel about it. So far, the dialogue options are pretty good, but I'm not digging not having the equipment option in the pause menu any more. Also, the Achievements tab that keeps popping up every time I do something that will get me an achievement is frustrating.

Also, the turn of events at the beginning were very confusing and came out of no where.

I'm still stuck on New Vegas and I like it a lot. I got a little bored with the main quest line but then I found the Brotherhood and it opened up some interesting new quest lines that grabbed me again. I like it a lot more than FO3, which was a good game in its own right but wasn't quite in the same league as the old Fallouts. NV captures the FO1/2 feel a lot more.

edit: Also added Rayman Origins to the list. LOVE it. Everyone should check it out.

I've been playing okami... and I come bearing bad news.
I've beaten this game roughly 500 times on both the Wii and the PS2 as a kid, and I hadn't picked it up in years.
So I did, and this is my verdict.

The combat is AMAZING as expected, very fast, fluid, while still offering a lot of time for creativity and style to be thrown into the mix. Getting demon fangs is always a nice challenge past orochi, since you need to find the right trick for each monster, and some arent so easy to pull off.
The artstyle is well... it's okami, jesus man. It's gorgeous, moving on.
Issun.
Issun....
Good God Issun.
I hate this freaking bug. I hate him. I want to feed him to ninetails or orochi. He's the WORST videogame sidekick in any game I've ever played.
He never shuts up,he NEVER SHUTS UP. He repeats what just happened two minutes ago in the story as if we need the reminder, he makes the same jokes a million times in a row until each successive joke makes you want to give yourself a lobotomy. He never lets you solve any puzzles for yourself, as he is quite keen to interrupt you constantly to give you the answer. Never tips, just answers. I actually think Issun has more lines than the rest of the characters ingame combined.
Yeah, and people say Navi is bad. They don't know true pain. At least navi LETS you ignore her tips. Issun shoves them right in your face, with unskippable textboxes.

Overall, this game would be PERFECT without issun. The characters are really colorful, the stories solid, the environments varied, the combats fun. Everything is amazing. I just.... god dammit issun...

Very well said. I believe Okami would be a perfect game if it would use visuals only. It would even fit the theme perfectly, as you'd be a wolf who doesn't understand man-language.

So dump the excessive library of redundant text, get rid of Issun and boom, perfect game.

Edit: making you fight every boss again at the end is pretty freaking trout too. It's just filler. :colbert:

Edit 2: Just running around is the greatest thing about Okami. Just run, white wolf, run!

Edit 3: Ok, now I'm getting myself pissed about how developers sometimes just don't realize what makes their game fun. Running around is great. Combat is great. Making miracles happen is great. The painting mechanic is great. But how great would it be to make these miracles happen without a 5 minute prelude of how and why these should happen? The talking is what's not fun about Okami. It enslaves you. People ask, you make it happen. That's not being a god, that's being a boy who runs errands. As a wolf god I want to observe and find solutions myself because my miracles are happenings that are not explainable by humans. The whole game would be one big secret finding/mystery solving puzzle. Why didn't you get this, Clover, WHY?

Completely agreed pete
Hell, considering how much of this game is based on legend of Zelda mechanics a silent protagonist would fit in perfectly.
Whats funny is, with issun gone, the ingame scrolls and tips the game gives you would be all the more clever

Besides, all of the jokes in okami about the babes ammy makes perfectly fine as a silent wolf than issun makes with text. Hell, ammys reactions are always way more amusing.

I do wish a lot of the miracles castes felt leas like errands and more like divine intervention like its meant to feel

Speechcraft was hilarious. Maybe it's why I didn't get into Skyrim? I remember playing it intoxicated once and just really thought about the mechanism behind it and just cracked up. It was fun to be able to manipulate people into liking you.

Speaking of manipulating people, New Vegas. I updated Steam yesterday and it ran like crap and it made me so sad. I'm trying to kill the Van Graffs for the Brotherhood, which is hard enough without the game lagging like a mofo.

Path of Exile

I downloaded this online ARPG yesterday and I am level 17 right now already. This game is a lot of fun and in my opinion the real sequel to Diablo 2, although the story is not the same.

The customization system is really deep, you can choose from hundreds of passive skills as you level up and you can use active skills when you place a gem in your weapon/armor.

The art style really feels like it was from Diablo 1,2 unlike Diablo 3 where it is more cartoony in my opinion. The skill animations look great and the game itself is pretty challenging. I just finished Act 1 and the boss was quite tough, I at least had some help from another guy.

So if you are disappointed with Diablo 3 and are a fan of Diablo 2, I would suggest you to check it out. Most of the players I have met in game say the same things as I mentioned above.

The game is Free to Play and will stay that way. Developers also mentioned that the game will never be Pay2Win.

I forgot to mention that the game is in Open Beta right now, but there will be no more wipes and the game works flawlessly.

Here is the website: Path of Exile (http://www.pathofexile.com/)

And the trailer: Path of Exile Open Beta Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDFO4E5OKSE)

I am so addicted to it right now! Finally a new game that runs like an old game.

Just played a round of DotA2 with some dude on my friends list who I could've sworn was bert. Bert, what's your Steam name? Even bigger question is who the hell this dude is...

About 11 hours into Morrowind. I was dying to play it and at first it was sublime, especially with all the Tamriel lore you're instantly in the middle of, but it's really rough. Mods can only take it so far. Travelling is tough. I do like all the political intrigue, something that was completely absent from Oblivion. And none of the dungeons are anywhere near as horrible as the Oblivion gates, so that's also a plus. But I won't lie, there's a lot of things I miss. I kinda think it's an FFVI situation, where if you played it first, your expectations for the rest are through the roof, but if you started with the later ones, it's that much harder to live without the polish and fluidity. Still, Oblivion built up slow until I couldn't pull myself away from it, I'm sure Morrowind will be the same.

Finished New Game Plus on Batman: Arkham City and have done all the main campaign quests (all collectables was a bitch), can't be arsed with the challenges though so I'm done with that game. It feels good to say that considering how long I spent on it. x_x

Played the demo of The Cave with Danielle, and it was really fun so I can see us buying it before the month is through. For now, though, I've returned to Football Manager 2012 and carried on where I left off with F.C. United in the Premier League (having worked them all the way up from Northern Premier League, the seventh tier in the UK league system). The game year is now 2020 so I've done very well, and since returning to my game I've taken them from 17th (four games in) to 6th (something like six games to go), so I might get into the Europa League on my first run in the PL, which is immense. Especially when you consider I have a 12,000 seater stadium and am financially stable. xD Just been very good/lucky with my signings, really. Still, want to get my club into an even healthier position and grow the stadium over the years so fingers crossed it'll keep working out.

Ha! I know what you mean. It's also a good game to throw a weekend away on in that you can play it at your own pace. Sure, the weekend is gone, but you don't get really annoyed at how you really want to get to that next bit of the game but you have to go to work and blah blah blah. I hate leaving in the middle of a story, I guess. When I finally got back to playing VI/XII, I had to restart them because I didn't want to just pick up where I left off. With Football Manager 2012, I can leave it for a year, return and just carry on. I even remembered a lot of the players - although I did get a surprise as I'd completely forgotten about nicknaming my assistant manager 'Captain Planet'. :p

Not that I'd ever encourage playing Oblivion over Morrowind, but I'd say give those quest lines a try sometime. The Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild had some of the best quests in Oblivion. I'm caught up in two games known as "Curse out my university's Internet network for crapping out on a daily basis," and "Bitch about how my copy of Fire Emblem: Awakening hasn't even shipped yet." When I'm not too busy with those two, I'm mainly playing NBA 2K13 for fun, filling out the Pokédex in White 2, and boosting to tenth prestige in World at War because there's no other way to do it. With the monster snowstorm about to slam into my area over the next few days, I'll probably sink my teeth into something like Dust: An Elysian Tail.

Update on the above: Got into the Europa League, crashed out in the second stage of the knockout rounds if I recall correctly. Finished that season 4th in the PL (yay goal difference) and that got me Champions League. Up to a 20,000 seater and with a bunch of new signings, I got given AC Milan in the Round of 16 after topping my group (PSG/Valencia/Dinamo Kiev) and lost 2-0 away and won 1-0 at home, bugger. In the PL, things are going great - 1st with a 9 point gap and have only lost two games in about 26 or so (both recent, after a 32 game unbeaten run) - Manchester United away (fair enough) and Spurs at home (damn). Still, should win - Arsenal and United are vying for second. Also, just noticed Spurs won the CL a few seasons back. If that isn't weird, I don't know what is. Currently spending all my cash on boosting my youth side so I can get a very strong home grown group of players, and it's slowly but surely paying off.

- Please sign in to Games for Windows Live! (shit shit shit)
- Remember my username and password, sign in.
- Downloading Profile... 5%... 10%...
- There is an update for Games for Windows Live! If you don't install it you can't save shit. INSTALL.
- Download update.
- Please exit the game!
- Exit game. Update installer runs. Finishes without confirmation.
- Re-launch Bioshock 2.
- Single Player. Sign in. (ofc it can't auto-sign me in even though I CHECKED THE OPTION TO DO THAT)
- Downloading Profile... 5%... 10%...
- There is an update for Bioshock 2 through Games for Windows Live! Install or your life is worthless.
- Download update.
- Please exit the game!
- Exit game. Update installer runs. Also finishes without confirmation.
- Re-launch Bioshock 2.
- Single Player. Sign in.
- Downloading Profile... 50%... 100%
- We have a new terms of service! Please accept.
- Click accept. (does nothing)
- Click accept. (nothing)
- Click accept.
- Game minimizes. "Games for Windows Live Client has stopped working."
- Maximize game. I get a sign-in error. GFWL tells me I'm signed in anyways.
- Log out.
- Log back in.
- Game minimizes. "Games for Windows Live Client has stopped working."
- Maximize again. Same error. Still says I'm signed in.
- Fucking play Bioshock.

GFWL is seriously the worst service on PC. But on the plus side, I found out that I really miss Rapture, and I super enjoy taking it in from a Big Daddy's perspective. But god damn GFWL.

Science victory was the most common form of victory for me. Not really intentional, I'm just a slow mover when it comes to taking over the world... I tend to opt for rushing science and wonders early in the game while being relatively peaceful, then swamping the world with tanks the moment I unlock them (often well ahead of everyone else due to the science rush) and then start rolling them out... but the science rush and wonders leave me advancing so fast and then the wonders run out and all my places have built everything there is bar "MORE UNITS" and I start on the spaceship and... victory!

Pretty much this.

Only changes when the AI decides to frell with me (they get suicidal), and I wind up wiping them out just so they'll leave me alone.

In Master of Orion 2 I wind up eventually nearly annihilating every other civilization and blockading their sole remaining planet just so they won't wipe each other out. After all, I can't win a diplomatic victory with only two or three races alive, and I'm certainly not going to vote myself victor until I'm good and ready.

I'm contemplating buying Tomb Raider as my next purchase. What is it like? It looks a bit more like Uncharted these days.

I think it's great so far. It's true, gameplay hardly resembles classic Tomb Raider, but it's not really like Uncharted in terms of gameplay either (parkour isn't really part of it, there's not a heavy focus on shooting, and none of the platforming is done for you like it is in Uncharted). It does have shootouts here and there and the occasional QTE, but the game is far more about finding stuff, hunting and surviving than it is shooting people, and when you do shoot people, it's presented as a method of survival, strictly self-defense, and is never glorified. In fact, there are moments when the game really feels like action/adventure meets survival horror.

If you like action/adventure games, or liked either of the aforementioned franchises, I highly recommend giving it a shot.

I think it has more shooting than DMKA implies, but he's right in that it's a different feeling in that you feel like you're doing it for the sake of survival rather than in Uncharted when you're doing it as part of a push into enemy territory for great treasure. But yeah, there are moments when you'll do a lot of shooting or beating people up or whatever. Either way, I would say it's a really good game that deserves to be played.

Heh, yeah, I wasn't as far into the game as I am now when I wrote that. There are quite a few fight/shooting segments, I realize now, but they're still presented in such a way that they blend perfectly into the rest of the game's survival theme.

I haven't finished it yet, but if it stays this good through the end, it's easily one of my new favorite games.

I'm playing Tomb Raider as well. I think I'm about 40% of the way through it. IT's pretty good. I don't like how blatant the "secret tombs" are though. They're standing right out in the open and the screen shoots this at my face:

SECRET TOMB NEARBY

Thanks for ruining the "secret".

Additionally I would like if there was a bit more variety in the fighting animations. Shooting a guy's legs out with the bow is awesome, but after seeing Lara pull the same bigass rock out of nowhere as a finisher 20 times in a few hours, it gets old.

Some of the setpiece parts annoy me a bit as well. There are a lot of parts where it seems like you're inches away from death (crossing a log over a cliff, climbing a massive and broken ladder, etc.), but it takes from the immersion a bit when you realize you're not actually doing anything except holding the control stick in one direction and watching Lara freak out.

I do really enjoy the atmosphere of the game and the graphics are pretty great. I also like the depth and variety present in enemy conversations. Though I have some criticisms of it, I am enjoying it overall.

Halo 4;
It's not as great as Reach was by any means, but it's still not anywhere near bad. I enjoyed the campaign thoroughly and found the dual online (War Games & Spartan Ops) experiences to be vastly entertaining in different ways. And while I miss the armor abilities from Reach and the way it handled I still enjoy the new abilities and I'm slowly adjusting to the variances in movement. On the plus side from bad changes there's considerably more unlockables such as armor, additional names to show ability and the weapon loadouts have improved greatly, we're talking full customization here. So all in all I miss Bungie's particular flair but these new guys have done a Class A job with the series we know and love.
8/10

Darksiders

Its awesome! Being a fan of Devil May Cry, I approve. This game is even badasser than DMC I think, but that's my opinion. I am about an half-way through. It is pretty challenging so far.

That game was pretty great. It was a shame you had to leave, but we did end up winning in the end. Might have to step it up to some harder bots once I try a few more heroes out.

Pushing toward finishing Fallout 3, I've owned the game the longest for my PS3 and never got around to beating it, and my OCD took over.

Still playing Vagrant Story on PSP, getting close to the end.

Playing Devil May Cry 3. I never gave this game a chance as a kid, but I've fallen in love with it now.
Dark Souls has helped me appreciate the nuances in the combat and the difficulty, with very little leaving me frustrated.
Also, the cerberus is so damn amazing and fun. Considering I love using nunchucks (nunchaku) in kung fu, I immediately fell in love with them.
Looking forward to all the badass weapons in this game.

Also been playing around with some old crappy PS1 games.
Power Rangers: Time Force (I WILL beat this broken near unplayable piece of garbage. I keep getting 3 levels from the end and getting screwed over by the level design)
Spongebob SuperSponge: A surprisingly solid platforming game with some serious balls in terms of difficulty. It had me on the edge of my seat, and I was having a blast until I got my game over.

Final Fantasy 8.

I've only ever played this game once and despite a few obvious issues with the story, I did actually enjoy it. After reading up on how broken the game is I've decided to find out for myself. Plus, I do really enjoy Triple Triad.

Oh I'm enjoying the hell out of it, just beat Agni and Rudra. Took me about 4 tries give or take. Pretty sweet swords, and they have access to air hike! ^^
I'm not using recovery items or anything, so this game can get pretty intense. But my god IS IT SO FUN.
Chapter 6 here I come...

yeah i loved dmc3!! agnir and rudra was the hardest battle for me too. i guess s&o reminded me of that one actually. i wonder how i'd play dmc3 now after having played through demons and dark souls
but it's true, dmc3 is the best entry in the series, at least for sure in the ps2 generation

I actually had more trouble with cerberus than those two. He took me like 6 or 7 attempts. A&R took me a few tries to figure out, but once I did they were cake. After Dark Souls bosses taking me 15+ tries on challenge runs, 4 or 5 tries is nothing.
None of the bosses have been too overwhelming actually, and they've all been extremely fun (except the leviathan heart, that one was just stupid)
Then again... there's still Hard, Very Hard, and DMD for me to go through.

I can definitely say I don't play DMC3 the same way I did DMC4 because of Dark Souls. I only get frustrated when something stupid happens or greeds appear because screw them, and I spend a lot of time in the early chapters practicing moves and combos.
