Playing Devil May Cry 3. I never gave this game a chance as a kid, but I've fallen in love with it now.
Dark Souls has helped me appreciate the nuances in the combat and the difficulty, with very little leaving me frustrated.
Also, the cerberus is so damn amazing and fun. Considering I love using nunchucks (nunchaku) in kung fu, I immediately fell in love with them.
Looking forward to all the badass weapons in this game.

Enjoy it, best entry in the series in my opinion. ;)

Oh I'm enjoying the hell out of it, just beat Agni and Rudra. Took me about 4 tries give or take. Pretty sweet swords, and they have access to air hike! ^^
I'm not using recovery items or anything, so this game can get pretty intense. But my god IS IT SO FUN.
Chapter 6 here I come...

By the way, what style are you using?

I tend to switch between Royal Guard and Swordmaster depending on my situation.

I'm now on Vergil 2 and this fight is sooooo much fun~
He's making me very impatient for the Beowulf Gauntlets though, I need them in my life.

NES Legend of Zelda. I started about three hours ago and I'm already in the final dungeon. Of course the fact that I did a lot of things out of sequence to make my passage through the game faster (got three hearts, the white sword, the blue mail, and the big shield before even entering a dungeon, got the master key after the first two dungeons, etc.) probably sped up my process a lot.

God of War: Ascension

While not really revolutionary in terms of gameplay, it's really fun none the less, and looks fantastic, so much that it's hard to believe it's a console game at points.

Royal Guard really is an underappreciated Style if you ask me. The Beowulf is one of my fave weapons in the game, though I feel Vergil fits my style more than Dante's. Felt I should ask, are you playing the original DMC3 or the Special Edition version?

Anyway, I gave on Fallout 3 so I could play Xenogears again. I tried playing this game on the PSP but it just never felt right so playing this on the PS3 on the big screen has made everything feel right. I've also realized why Xenobalde reminds me so much of Xenogears, it didn't just lift the color palette from Gears, I feel it lifted some of the architecture and NPC designs as well. Anyway, Im at the point where the Goliath was shot down and ready to go meet THE MEN OF THE SEA!!!

Halo 4 (still)

I'm actually taking another turn at Skyrim, burned myself out on it like six months ago but picked it up again the other day and I'm thoroughly enjoying my Dunmer Thief/Dual Weapon warrior. I intend to mess around with the new(ish) DLC and a Breton or High Elf Heavy Armored Mage.

Im also playing Tomb raider on ps3. at first i didnt like the game, but as we advance it is getting better and better!!

saturday when i was at the store i wasnt so sure if i should get DMC, i was afraid i wouldnt like it becaus its a hack and slash. i did enjoy the previous one though (with a bit mixed feelings).
my bf downloaded the game for pc and i played a little and it convinced me.
buuuuuuttt... just my luck: when i wanted to get it on sunday the game was suddenly dissapeared off the freaking earth!
gamestore didnt had it.. and in the other 3 stores they didnt had it either :S

Special Edition, and I know it's easier than the original. And I definitely don't think Royal Guard is underappreciated at a lot of the best boss strategies involve it. The problem is a lot of people don't want to invest the time to learn it or think it'll be too hard.

Also, mission 20 is kicking my ass. Vergils first 2 fights I beat in 1 or 2 tries max but this one is just raping me. I have yet to use healing items during bosses but I just want to get this done so if I don't get it soon I may just resort to that and really train on him later. I just really suck at this last fight, and it doesn't help that I just want to get on to Hard mode and Vergils mode.

Danielle's been playing FFXIII lately and I've been thrown the controller when she's eating or on the phone or whatever. I have to say, the game has surprisingly good replayability. The battle system is just really enjoyable for me.

Otherwise, I'm not playing anything at the moment, and I find it kind of weird saying that. I'm sure it'll change soon enough. Just wish FFXIV:ARR would launch already... but I still have to get through FFIX and Thief at some point, so there's always that.

I'm about to beat Deus Ex, and I've also been playing some Crusader Kings II (Elder Kings mod) and Torchlight 2 on the side. When Hux and I were together recently we played and beat Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, as well. We started Dark Alliance II but they had some terrible game mechanic that we didn't like so we stopped almost immediately xD

Those Dark Alliance games were great. I miss them now. And I want to play Champions of Norrath, again. :(

I'm still playing New Vegas. Rocking Joshua Graham's fucking magnificent and beautiful armour with some lucky shades and a First Recon beret. Got 10 Intelligence, 10 Agility and 10 Luck, and have maxed all of the skills I routinely use. I'm currently using the Survivalist's Rifle, because it's cool, and the Gobi Sniper, because dem crits, man. Dem crits. :)

I have Bioshock: Infinite right there, waiting for me, but I promised my friend we'd play it together.

Oh you know it ^^
Which one are you starting with?

Devil may cry 1? 2? 3? 4?
The reimagining called DMC?

They all have their interesting quirks.

Edit: oh, the remake eh? The acronym as a name makes it hard to tell xD

Its quite a curious one that has a near universal hatred from the "hardcore" dmc community.
Most of its purely an exaggeration though.

Let me start with the meat of dmc.
The combat IS dumbed down sadly. The depth is mostly gone. But that isnt all bad.
Its simplified, but a newbie into dmc wont notice, its fast fluid and fun. Its gorgeous to watch as well.

The bosses... Okay the game lacks many bosses, and the ones there arent very good or challenging.
Their designs are really cool... But sadly they lack replayability.

The story is fine, dont worry about that.

The game is also stupidly easy to get the highest ranking on, which kills replayability overall and doesnt make you strive to improve.

Also, there is an elemental portion to the combat. This goes as such "enemy is red, you can only hit him with weapon 'x'. Stuff like that. Its my biggest gripe as i feel its a very artificial way to influence gameplay and limits combat variety.

Wow, that felt like a bit overly negative.
Dante feels great to control, the art design is gorgeous, and enemy designs are cool too.
Oh, the music isnt too bad, but thats a matter of personal taste.

Overall, its a great intro to dmc that lacks the massive leaning curve of the others. Its not the best, but its perfectly solid and i recommend it. It wont hold peoples attention as long as the others due to its shallow nature but its fun all the same.

(the story he told xD ).

i played DMC 4 (the one with Nero) before this.. what i hated about it is that you went from A-Z with Nero, and Z-A with Dante.. i dont like revisiting places like that :o
i was not sure if i wanted to get the new DMC since im not 100% sure if i liked the previous ones, and im actually not a hack and slash fan at all!

but after playing a bit on my bf's pc i was convinced ^^

so.. the 're-make' of DMC :D
i agree that it is way to easy to get S rank at the end of a chapter.

i had alot of trouble switching to the right weapon (Osiris and arbiter, on pc) when you quickly had to switch in the air, but on ps3 it going waaaaaaay better.

since ive only played 1 DMC, wich was mainly about Nero, i dont really know the 'old' Dante that ppl seem to prefer.
But i like this Dante ^^

Gamblet
04-10-2013, 08:54 PM
You should play DMC3, it is a lot better and Dante is SSStylish! The story is more interesting too and there is not that much backtracking. (You visit some places, not all)
The combat is fluid and needs some skill to get highest rank than in the "remake", but my wrist seems to cramp up when playing on keyboard.
Maybe I am out of shape, I have not played it in a year I think. I used to be quite pro.

That was my main gripe with DMC4 too. I mostly just love the bosses of that one and nero is quite awesome to play as. I typically stick to the bloody palace for the most part.
DMC3 as previously stated is probably the most solid entry in terms of AMAZING gameplay, humor, storytelling and the like.... though I feel its "dante must die mode" is extremely weak and poorly executed.

You can pick up the HD Collection of Devil May Cry which includes 1 2 and 3 (special edition with vergil mode) all in one nice bundle for PS3.
While DMC2 sucks terribly in my opinion, 1 and 3 are both FANTASTIC games so it's a good deal.
I'm not sure if the collection comes with any problems as I haven't used it so you may want to look into that before purchasing.

DMC3 does have quite a steep learning curve though, so be prepared to spend a while just becoming good at the combat.
3 is definitely not as forgiving as 4 is as well so be warned.

Kingdom Hearts with the gf, which is more me watching and attempting stuff when she's having trouble. It's the first time I've done a serious playthrough of it and I'm enjoying it for the most part, though the story is taking a while to come together, and some of the areas just don't really make sense.

I started up Majora's Mask for the first time, also. It's cool for a lot of reasons - I've been wanting to replay some of the 3D Zeldas, and it's one of them that I didn't play much of. I've also heard so much about the depth of the scenario and story that I've been intrigued about it for some time. It's also nice to play it on an emulator with remastered textures and a wireless controller. I'm not terribly far, but it's a big nostalgia trip back to OoT, and it's just hard not to love the weirdness of it.

As I said, the new DMC has very poor bosses. Cool looking, but such a joke to fight. Saddest part of the game for me.
Though I must say
DMC3 isn't exactly the shining example of bosses either.
The gigapede is an absolute WASTE of time, Leviathan is just boring... Don't even get me started on mr. disappointment at the end of Mission 19
Though it does have the Vergil fights which I rank amongst the best boss fights ever, beowulf is pretty fun, and agni and rudra are really cool. No other bosses really stand out to me really.
It had some VERGIL 3 OHMAGAWDILOVEYOU, and some that should have been just removed or completely changed.

Also, DMC3 has some STUPID enemies.
The miasmas are awkward and such a lame gimmick to fight. You cant even reliably pacify them with the camera as sometimes they're just magically charging their next attack

The archers can go suck it. I spend like 30 minutes chasing them around in the bloody palace, and they throw so many at you in the main story. I get their point is to run and attack at a range, but sometimes people make it a point to call soup a drink and that isn't very cool either.

Also, my least favorite... freaking spiders. I'm getting better with them, but they just are a pain to put up with. (also, if you have some tips for dealing with them I'd be greatly appreciated)

There's also the fallen, but they don't bother me as much anymore.

And last and certainly least is dullahan... or as I refer to them: pointless. Why do they exist? WHY?! They hardly deal any damage, aren't fun to fight, and have extremely little health. They aren't even aggressive or a hazard during battle.

DMC3 is an amazing game... one of my favorites, but it sure as hell has it's glaring flaws.
Also, I still highly recommend DMC3. Such a fun game~

Allow me to tell you how much better off you are skipping Invisible War with a short story.

A few years ago I saw that invisible War was on sale for $2.50 on Steam. Now I'd heard all of the talk about how bad it was, but surely it'd be worth $2.50? I mean come on, how could a game be that bad and not at least be worth it because it's that bad?

I managed to play for an hour before I couldn't stand playing it any more. And even though I paid $2.50 I felt freaking ripped off.

Thats usually what i do, but i dont pack agni and rudra in the bloody palace so thats not an option.

I have 2 strats depending on patience.
My first is to get one isolated and pacify the others with the camera, and wail on him in DT. I then taunt, and repeat the process. If i cant pacify, then i just try my best to dodge and counter the others.
if im feeling patient i bounce around the stage as trickster 3 and enemy-hop so i can stay in the air nearly forever. I use ebony and ivory and occasionally take hits with rebellion and DT whenever i feel like it or need some hp regen to heal some stray damage.

In normal play it usually involves agni and rudra and some jump-cancel practice.

Because I apparently wasn't masochistic enough already when it comes to 100% completion, I've taken it upon myself to get to 10th prestige in Call of Duty: World at War to get the final achievement in that game. Keep in mind that the game is absolutely infested with hackers now, so I have to resort to boosting to get the achievement without getting my rank reset or some other nonsense happening. Luckily, I have Fire Emblem: Awakening to break up the tedium, and I'm loving every minute of it.

I've also dabbled around a bit in Battlefield 3, where I've finished the campaign and am about halfway done with the cooperative missions on the highest difficulty. I'm also currently going through Max Payne 3 a bit by bit on Hard. While the multiplayer is forgettable trash, I'm quite enjoying the single player so far. I'm not looking forward to beating New York Minute Hardcore, though; that's going to be one of the toughest challenges I've taken up in a video game.

Just finished up FF Tactics, that should hold me for the next six months on that particular title.
Side note: FUcking feel victorious after killing off both forms of Altima in under sixty seconds. Two Flares from a summoner with quick charge+3 attacks from Haste enhanced ninja/time mage main character+ two holy explosions from T.G Cid=massive victory.

I'll probably end up playing Oblivion again or maybe a run through of FFIX next.

Alpha Centauri, all of the time, forever.

Please don't go.
Pike needs you.
She looks up to you.

I have never stopped playing this game since it came out in '99 and am strongly considering an Alpha Centauri tattoo. Because why not. The thing about Alpha Centauri that makes it one of gamings defining moments isn't the part where it was the pinnacle of Sid Meier Simulation games (I could see someone making a case for Civ5), for me, that thing is the writing. Every single word in Alpha Centauri has been carefully crafted. It seems abundantly clear to me that before making an amazing simulation, they sat in a room for months and wrote amazing hard science fiction. I wish more games had learned a lesson and been narrative first.

Not a fan of Civ V myself, when I think of the best 4X games of all time I think it's a tossup between SMAC, Civ IV and Master of Orion 2. I'd probably have to give Civ IV the edge for actual game mechanics but when it comes to things like the story, the writing, the technology quotes, and the hard sci-fi then you can't beat SMAC. No game can.

Cruise Control
04-21-2013, 03:43 PM
I love MoO1&2, but the writing is so inferior to SMAC. I usually roll base game. The writing in SMAC:AC is really good, but the new factions aren't balanced at all, and ruin the game. What's your faction of choice? I think all non Believers are scum. As someone who rolls deep with Miriam, you better not tell me you play The Hive, or The Spartans.

You can save the game after every mission you complete. The game makes checkpoints during a mission (making the "Save" feature in the pause menu kind of useless), but they are lost when you quit the game or restart the mission.

Mark of the Ninja. I've finished all of the achievements except New Game + (which is also the game's hard mode).

This game is a blast. Though I do feel that Path of Might is a little counterintuitive. Why would they give melee combat bonuses in a game where the objective is to avoid melee combat as much as possible? Especially since half of its bonuses are useless in NG+ (due to every enemy being able to one hit kill you), and it has one of the most punishing penalties (no time freeze for focus/item targeting).

I do feel they missed an opportunity for some replayability achievements by giving one for completing each level with each Path. Path of Silence plays way differently than Path of Nightmares or Path of the Hunter.

Final Fantasy X-2 International

This game is ridiculously fun. The Coliseum allows for so much playing around with the battle system, trying out fiends and overall, it's just a blast. I'm SO looking forward to playing this with an official translation.

The tournaments are great. When you start out, the Regular Cup is way above your level, which results in quite the unexpected death (though no Game Over, thankfully) when all enemies suddenly deal like 90% of your max HP in damage. Of course, once you get Black and White Mage and play around with the Creature Create feature, it's pretty easy and your reward is the Psychic DSP which is my favorite in the entire game.
The later cups are harder than the Via Infinito. Seriously. In Farplane Cup, you regularly fight Trema and Paragon as well as multiple unique enemies, most notably that giant four-headed snake which would make the #1 spot on any Hardest Superboss list were it not for the couple of insanely overpowered combat features that can be abused to hell.

Really recommend trying it when it comes out on PS3, especially if you enjoyed the original FFX-2. The original was just downright fun to play and the International Version multiplies the fun factor.

Finished The Last Story. I thought the combat was dumb at first, but it actually wasn't that bad, if a little simplistic. Upgrading weapons and equipment was fun and the magic system was different at least. My main gripe was with the characters. Zael was ok for a generic hero, but Calista was one of the biggest nothingburgers I've ever seen in an RPG. She was completely dull and cliche. I did enjoy some of the other main party, particularlly Syrenne and Yurick. The story itself was pretty uneventful though the twist with the last boss shook things up a bit. The game was particularly short for a JRPG and had a very limited world scope, which I didn't care for. In the end I was entertained (mainly by the side cast and upgrading weapons) so it was a fun game. Xenoblade Chronicles was way better though.

Now I'm moving on to Telltale's The Walking Dead. So far I'm enjoying it. It's more like watching a game than playing one, but I appreciate the constant barrage of choices to keep me involved.

EDIT: Sweet zombie jesus. Went to play some Bioshock Infinite and the damn thing runs like molasses to a degree I would not have thought possible on my computer. Guess it's an evening of trouble shooting for me. On the plus side, this is literally the second time since I bought my original computer some six or seven years ago that I had to trouble shoot to get a game running. Probably just some out of date graphics drivers though.

EDIT2: Or not. Apparently I have the latest drivers. Beta drivers, here I come.

EDIT3: switched to beta drivers, tried every fix I could find reported on the internet, including manually editing values in the configuration files and not a damn thing is working. On that note I play multiple games at once that way i don't burn myself out on them so these are the ones i am playing: Ni No Kuni, Dead Island: Riptide, Diablo 3(friend got me back into it), League of Legends, Candy Box! (Look it up and enjoy XD), and going through Baldur's gate 2 again with some friends

Been playing through my second run of FEZ (yeah, yeah, Phil Fish is an asshole--don't care. I judge the game, not the creator) though the recently released version of Steam.

I also FINALLY been playing Nintendo Land for my Wii U. I had it since I picked up a Wii U on launch, but I was focused on New Super Mario Bros Wii U at the time, and then other games got my attention.

Agreed on the art style. I enjoy it because it's a good game just to chill and play. It really relaxes me. I also like some of the more obscure puzzles to figure out. Oh, and that sound track is ****ing excellent. The two recent remix albums are worth a listen if you liked the game's soundtrack.

I started Uncharted 3 this week... It's so hard not to smile when playing that game from the acting, the artwork, The natural gameplay (especially during set pieces), the next-gen caliber graphics, and overall just how well-done it is. A lot of the opening doesn't even feel like an Uncharted game, it's so unique.

Still been playing a lot of Fire Emblem and Mario 3D Land on the morning commute and at home.

Dota 2, I suck so bad....

IT'S AWESOME.

Be sure to read your purge, starting with the You Suck guide (http://www.purgegamers.com/welcome-to-dota-you-suck#.UZl1cbXvuac). It can be a lot of work to become a decent dota player, but it's very rewarding to master the depths of it and even if you don't care too much about it, you should still read that guide at the very least (trust me).

When you have a decent handle on the basics you should definitely check out XVRogueGaming, especially his videos on the 3 key roles (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL530E9590CF0B5FB2).

After being convinced for a long time that I just didn't like Skyrim, I installed a mod to skip the intro and just dove right into the Thieves Guild. I like it significantly better with this playthrough. I'm getting more into the systems I avoided before and focusing more on role playing rather than just knocking out questlines. I feel like the vanilla game really focused too heavily on going straight from quest marker to quest marker, which I think broke my immersion a lot. It helps that the Thieves Guild quest line is pretty fantastic so far.

I got lucky with agni and rudra, since I played through dark souls before I played this game... I had already beaten Ornstein and Smough on multiple challenge runs in many different ways and A&R are just easy versions of them. It took me 5 or 6 tries, but nothing that was too bad.
Just don't mash buttons too much, and be careful. Use the invincibility frames you get from jumping. Use your guns. Just don't give up and you'll be fine.

OT: Playing Beyond Good and Evil. This game has impressed me in so many ways in my short time of playing. The protagonist, the dialogue, the MUSIC, the level design and difficulty balancing and also the variety of gameplay not bringing the game down. This game is nothing short of amazing.
Games I'll be playing later I picked up with this game:
Devil May Cry 1
God of War 1
Phantom Brave
Bayonetta (got it for my bro whom I visit frequently)
Devil May Cry 4 (My old disc broke so I picked up a new one, again for my bro because I don't have a 360 or PS3 anymore)

BC2 is so much fun. It makes me sad that Origin sucks so hard. Every time I go to play it, I end up having to reinstall the whole game because the patches won't apply.

We're really close to beating Kingdom Hearts! I'm going to push for Psychonauts afterwards, because I think she'll love it - she thought the story and dialog in Brutal Legend was hilarious, but I really disliked the gameplay at the end, so I didn't beat the final boss.

Been Playing Remember Me, and I must say I am pleased. There are some pretty obvious problems, but none of them are so big to ruin the game.

Where the game excels is Atmoshpere and Characters. Nilin is a wonderful lead, and here is why. She is pretty bad ass and damn good at what she does, but where she shines is it's clear she's not perfect at it. Often the progress involves her slipping up, miscalculating something, and at times even getting scared by some of the crazy shit happening. Still though, she pulls herself together and fights through her fears and injuries. The whole time you actually feel like somethings at steak, and it is wonderful.

I've not finished it yet, though I suspect I'd end the game giving it an 8/10 Score.

I finally got around to playing The Last Story after months of it sitting on my shelf untouched. It is a decent game, though the story and characters are fairly lackluster (the main character and the main lady are both very, very stupid.) The battle system is decent, though frustrating at times. The boss fights, at least thusfar, are extremely boring and gimmicky though I am not sure if they are intended that way as a means of introducing the player to the systems. I just finished the Gurak base invasion bit Hopefully the game picks up soon because as it stands, I do not see what much of the hype was about.

Pandora's Tower should get here on Friday and I will play that after finishing Last Story. Still trying to find a copy of Xenoblade Chronicles.

I'm debating on starting in on Chrono Trigger. I had it on my mom's laptop via a psx emulator back in Texas. I have it downloaded on the PS3 now, just haven't started yet.

I really wish they'd release Tales of Destiny & Lunar: Silver Star Story for PS3. I rather liked ToD.

I'd also like to get Threads of Fate. I played a demo of it a long time ago.

But. I'm playing Restaurant Story on my cell phone. It rather drives me nuts. I fill up my buffet table with 30,000 plates of food and turn the game off... 30 minutes later, all my food is gone. GONE I TELL YOU! And then I have to spend another 85 hrs getting my buffet filled up again. It's very frustrating.

Still happily playing the new CK2 expac. Did I mention you get to be a viking? Cause you get to be a viking. I'm also really liking the revamped tech method.

The Finale is finally here. Penny Arcade's: On the Rainslick Precipice of Darkness 4.

However, I have the same problem with this as all the other games, great as they are. There is no grinding. There are a few unnescessary enemies to fight in each dungeon, yes, but no respawns or anything. And I really like grinding. :(

Picked up Saints Row The Third on offer on Steam so been playing that with a friend. It's pretty silly but a lot of fun too.

Getting ready to wrap up FFV. I have to go get a few summons, the last job, and then go smack Exdeath around.

...I got the PC version of FFVII for like 5 bucks a few weeks back when it was on sale. Thinking about playing that next.

I'm replaying Skyrim for the umpteenth time. I'm also on my 6th playthrough of Persona 4. That game is too good to exist.
