el oh el. Porn kills the computer kids.
Usually my error report works (it responds), but the error report itself for my particular problem has not given me any solution to my problem, which sucks. My computer crashes because of an internet driver, but I don't think I can update the driver (no update availavle) or get a new one without causing problems.
Who couldn't love Windows...? :D
I'm not going to blame Windows for my incompetence on the computer (wait a second, who am I kidding, of course I am).
Use linux then, geez
I wasn't even DOING anything when my computer crashed today! I got up and left for a few minutes and when I came back, my computer had crashed and restarted!
windows = fap fyi
Hating microsoft is cool these days, so I will be different and like it. I also like ballet and when pens run out of ink.
I fell out of a window once.
I don't hate windows. I hate linux, mac, unix and most other desktop OS though. Servers are another thing all together.
I don't hate Windows. At least not Windows XP; it's the first one in years to actually work. All of the versions from 95 up until XP royally blow though. Honestly if you're running, say, Windows 98, just save yourself some time and toss your computer into the middle of the street now.
I do not hate Windows.
I have enough love in my heart to forgive. :jess:
are you hitting on me?
Windows works just fine, it just happens to be cool to bitch about it. Much like it's cool to complain about Internet Explorer, champion alternative low-budget computing methods, and make in-jokes relating to CK's and CK's only.
Microsoft+Xbox+PC+gaming monopoly= very sad world.:(
Well IE does actually suck pretty hard next to Firefox/Opera/A drunk hobo with a biro and a notepad.
And have any of you Windows lubbers given linux a decent try? It is ok if you love it; as long as you claim ignorance to linux!
Windows has always worked fine for me, so I actually like it quite a bit... But if my computer crashes at some point I'd probably be the first to complain about Windows, though
I'm going to have a linux box, once I get a new box that is, because it's a better bet for non-gaming stuff. Although I hear good things about WINE, but I don't want to install Linux and then discover those good things were lies.
Point is: I know what I'm talking about.
Linux is annoying if you're not willing to do command line work. That applies to most people and I don't blame them.
Mac > Windows
You heard...
I have. Linux is a nice operating system (in my case, specifically, Suse Linux ). The only major problems I have with Linux is the shell commands and the bootloaders. I've had enough DOS commands to last a lifetime; I don't want to have to learn another mountain of Linux commands.
Plus, the bootloaders suck - both Grub and Lilo. At least with Windows you can modify the bootloaders easily with the Boot.ini file. If you use a Linux bootloader then you're stuck with it for life - even if you remove Linux from your system.
For me, nothing beats Windows. :)
Redhat's the sucky of the linux bunch though :p You should try Ubuntu for evaluating linux for a desktop user :p
Yes I hate windows! Bringing in sunlight! PURE EVIL!
I like windows, it lets me go on the computer.
Dreddz is the original Mac fanboy. Really. Macs have problems too.
That's why you turn error reporting off. We wouldn't want to give microsoft an unfair advantage, now would we?
That's part of what keeps me from getting other people to adopt it. It's a shame, too, because it's people who just can't keep themselves out of trouble on Windows, so I'm fixing their computer every couple o f months as a result of them using it.
Actually, you aren't. It's relatively painless to remove it, too.
I dislike Windows on principle that it's really expensive. Like, $100 for a license that I can only use across three computers, and then I have to buy a new copy. My old Win98SE CD (OEM, at that) let me install unlimited times on unlimited computers. Their licensing scheme just seems a little ridiculous, even though it's in attempt to stop piracy - but really, if I knew I could buy a license and not have it worthless after three installs, I would get a real copy. It's just not economic for me at the current license model.
That's seriously like 2/3s of why I try to use Linux.
Windows is pretty good. I've never had any heavily upsetting problems with it.
GEM Desktop is Where It's At, though. (mostly due to nostalgic reasons)
I still don't understand how people manage to crash their windows installations all the time.
I hate when I forget that the windows are open and it rains. Then everything gets all wet. :(
What's so hard about "fixmbr" using the Windows repair command line?
Oh, and GRUB is much more powerful than the Windows bootloader. I never have any problems editing menu.lst after a kernel compile.
clout I believe was making reference to the RPM-centric environment of Redhat. RPMs are terrible for package management compared to .deb.
It's not a Linux problem. By default GRUB writes itself to the master boot record. fixmbr just rewrites the mbr with the Windows installation. It's also possible to boot straight into Linux without GRUB.
Yast is terrible.
My audio occaisonally vanishes until I restart my laptop or I put it in Stand By...
My favorite is the fact that it breaks the file system via its dirty mount/unmount systems. Litterally; it is self destructive.
Mac OSX is prolly one of the greatest user friendly computers out there.
Ubunto sucks, I must say. I was horribly let down. It is easy, but its a bit ished up as well. I would rather go red hat, even though red hat sucks too.
The beutiful thing is, when I say linux, I am talking the OS, not the distros plumb full of shattily assemebled open source software, but a more carefully implimented Distro like Slackaware, or from scratch.
And since when are you stuck with Grub or Lilo w/o config? I don't ever really use grub to any other degree than install, but I know you can do a ton of configuration post install with lilo.
Bipper
Suse Linux was the first distribution that I installed on my PC. I didn't want to muck about too much with the settings during install, so I just chose the defaults for pretty much everything (except partitions).
The problem was that Yast wouldn't configure it. It just wouldn't write to the boot loader, it would always freeze.
On the topic of bootloaders, you can use the Windows bootloader NTLDR and add a menu option to boot Linux. But you have to use dd to dump a raw image of your Linux boot sector and store it as a file on your Windows partition, because the Windows boot loader is too stupid to read ext3 / reiserfs partitions, let alone know how to boot an OS from one. This method doesn't require modifying your MBR at all and it's very easy to uninstall. Not that "fdisk /mbr" is hard though.
Geeze Louise, if you really hate Windows so much, fire up Linux.
You probably did, but I've yet to experience it myself.
What did Bill Gates' wife say to him on their wedding night?
Oh so that's why you call it Microsoft! LoLzOrDs.
I hate Microsoft because they're annoying, scamming b*st*rds. I work on Linux
Windows are annoying, because they get smudges. Then you have to go get the Wendex. It's a never ending cycle of agony.
LOL micro$oft
Evidently there is a patent application by microsoft for something that has been around for ages :) like this just makes them look even more smurfing retarded.
forget MS. I hate them.
Bipper
I dont hate windows anymore, but it hates me. I like it more than Linux, Apple and all the rest.
It's still better than using a Mac.
I've used Macs extensively, I'm not just speaking out of my ass on this one.
http://www.techeblog.com/index.php/t...rash-different
Macs recently had a bad problem where the drivers could be coaxed into allowing one to have root access or some such. The find was not used mallaciously my most, as there is a low % of people using macs. Personally, I <3 thier OS. But it is not perfect. A lot closer than windows is, but not perfect.
Microsoft sets this up in thier eula from 2000 on; so yes, XP has this as well. It is yet another perfect reason to hate windows. Yes, this cuts microsoft out of most any liability they can be pitted against. Is this the security you pay money for?Quote:

At the same time if I made a product that virtually 100% of businesses use (at least their grunt employees do), I would have something like this in my EULA.
On a similar note...

Windows is probably still the best operating system out there. The only problem is is that it is extremely complicated, and unless you know what you are doing, there's really no point to it. Bill Gates thought everyone would be able to utilize it as he does, but nope, that was a sore misjudgement.

and the classic
I like that picture a lot! :D
EDIT: But it wouldn't work anyway...
India has the idea:
Quote:
"The New York Times reports that the communist government in the Indian state of Kerala is trying to remove Microsoft from its public institutions, as part of a campaign against monopolistic corporations. From the article: 'schools and public offices across the state are being encouraged to install free software systems instead of purchasing Microsoft's Windows programs. "It is well-known that Microsoft wants to have a monopoly in the field of computer technology. Naturally, being a democratic and progressive government, we want to encourage the spread of free software," M. A. Baby, the state's education minister, said by telephone.' The government is not banning Microsoft, but it is actively encouraging all 12,500 public schools in the state to install Linux."
Get a mac :D
Frankly, I'm with Mirage on this. My Windows XP has given me no problems whatsoever. I've had it for almost a year now and use it frequently, yet it's never crashed or given me any major computer-pukes even once.
Though, I am quite fond of Macs.
My dad is in the electrical engineering field, and they've set up some systems on Unix, and specialized versions of Linux.
It annoys me when my PC just freezes, and Im like WHY HAVE YOU FROZE? WHY?
But Microsoft works, thats all Im bothered about
Windows is unAmerican.
America's tagline for forever has been "lol diversity!" a "cultural melting pot" (how many history students are sick of that tired phrase?) so it should be against US law to have above a certain % of computers on US soil running the same operating system.
the rest of the world can just use linux and wait for us to catch up~
That being said, I want to get a mac laptop for school and do some triadbooting.
Don't get me started on that ridiculous "cultural melting pot" >_>
>>> The only thing windows can do right is run lame PC games..
I worked in university, with audio engineer and other media formats (including graphic design and 3d modeling). We used both Mac and PC, and they were both very power machines.
To be honest? I saw no difference other than the prefernce you prefer in an OS layout. (i.e. what you find easiest to navigate) I've never had any problems using Windows for all my media needs, and neither for Mac. I just like Windows' layout a lot better as I'm used to navigating around with it.
Macs can crash just as much as Windows does, I've learnt this a lot. And BTW, I have both a PC and a MAC in my home, so I do use them both extensively.
My opinion: I like Windows.
Your opinion is wrong.
Windows is far too expensive because of the Monopoly they're running.
