I am but a sign of the times, my friend,
the promise of better days;
Inspiring awe, then hatred and fear--

I've travelled 'round the world, my friend
by wing and wheel and rail,
watched creation bled to serve
and heard its solemn wail.

I've seen great mountains, and many a village,
touched clouds and the depths of the sea;
The riddle to solve is how, my friend,
these occurred simultaneously.

Hints:

-"touched" literally means came into physical contact with
-"seen/watched/heard" are not quite so literal
-the answer can be smaller than a fist or larger than a house

"Shinra corporation" is the closest guess so far, but we're looking for something slightly more specific.
