wholy crap that could actually be right, i hope so, cause its the 1000th post, that would be symbolic

Liberi_Fatali
02-23-2008, 02:56 AM
Is it AP? Or a pee? LOL

What the coward gets when facing his doom - A pee (because hes scared)
Comet, you're a genius. Too bad I've already guessed AP and it turned out to be wrong. But you at least win points just for sheer creativity.

Comet
02-23-2008, 03:26 AM
Ah, too bad. This riddle is hard

Edit: thegirths signature is feckin hilarious lol

thegirth
02-23-2008, 04:08 AM
yeah i think its a Chris Rock quote

Rantz
02-23-2008, 10:55 AM
Haha, yeah, lots of bonus points for the creative answer. Neither AP nor experience is right though.

The riddle talks about feelings rather than actual items or spoils in the game.

demondude

Horror?

thegirth
02-23-2008, 01:56 PM
REPOST:
I am what you get from a Vysage fight
What the Geezard does from morning to night
me is what you'll find in an Elnoyle room
What the coward gets when facing his doom

Rantz
02-23-2008, 03:29 PM
Not horror. Not too far, however, from the meaning of the correct word in some of the lines.

demondude
02-23-2008, 08:29 PM
Petrification?

Rantz
02-23-2008, 08:58 PM
Nope.

Liberi_Fatali
02-26-2008, 11:50 PM
Wrong guesses thus far: death, Exeter, death in space, death in blue cheese, AP, STATUS EFFECTS, heavy breathing, screaming, crying, silence, sleep, stare, sigh, laughter, anything overly abstract, bite, crawl, eat dirt, the ground, teabagging, MAGIC, dirtnap, disappear, creep, slide, drag, bobbing and shaking, VERBS (except for the second line), sliver, dance, victory, ozostomia, dying, experience, a pee, horror, and petrification.

Is the answer a gerund or any other type of derivative or a synonym of any of the previous guesses? Also, does the answer involve verbal irony, i.e., homophony?

Rantz
02-27-2008, 12:33 AM
The answer could be said to be another form of one of the previously guessed words, yes. The different lines does result in the same word, spelled exactly the same.

demondude
02-27-2008, 05:01 PM
Something to do with crawling on the floor almost dead?

Rantz
02-27-2008, 05:54 PM
The answer, and the answer to one of the lines, has something to do with a kind of crawling. Death has no particular relevance to the riddle.

demondude
02-27-2008, 08:29 PM
Sleeping? xD

Rantz
02-27-2008, 09:12 PM
Nope. :p

BG-57
02-28-2008, 02:59 AM
Not quite sure how a form of crawling relates to all the lines.

Groveling?

Rantz
02-28-2008, 07:23 AM
Well, it's a word that has several possible meanings. Try some kind of synonym for crawl.

The word has pretty much been said already, but with the wrong ending (which is important enough to falsify it).

BG-57
02-28-2008, 12:20 PM
Creeps? With an S ending?

They're monsters in the game as well as a synonym for crawling and a feeling of foreboding.

Rantz
02-28-2008, 12:50 PM
Correct!

I am what you get from a Vysage fight -> If you'd encounter a vysage for real, the creeps is likely what you'd get.
What the Geezard does from morning to night -> The Geezard creeps.
me is what you'll find in an Elnoyle room -> Here, creeps is a descriptive word for the Elnoyles. Elnoyle room = A room full of Elnoyles = A room full of creeps.
What the coward gets when facing his doom -> Same meaning as the first line, a coward would get the creeps when his doom is coming.

And as you say, the game element referenced (and hence the answer) is the enemy Creeps.

demondude
02-28-2008, 05:06 PM
The Elnoyle line was a bit vague. xD But well done BG-57

Liberi_Fatali
02-28-2008, 05:14 PM
Exactly what did that have to do with the number 100?

Rantz
02-28-2008, 05:30 PM
100 in roman numerals is C, which is the first letter of the answer. It was a half joke hint in response to "I'd like to buy a wovel", but a valid one nonetheless.

BG-57
02-28-2008, 07:31 PM
I was thinking of Creeps a lot earlier but Creep was already guessed and wrong.

Pervasive but immaterial
Heard only but one time
A question of identity
Does he want an answer?

Rantz
02-28-2008, 08:11 PM
If creep was guessed as a lone guess I would probably have given it right, but it was one out of three guesses in the same post without any reasoning. I did say about that post, however, that "one of your guesses is so close I'm surprised you didn't see it". Sorry if I upset anyone.

Enough about that though. The immediate thought that strikes me is Bahamut and his questions before the fight. He doesn't show up physically before the fight, but his voice can be "heard". He questions your motives, and so your identity. The last line could be referring to that you have to choose the invisible option at the last question.

But Bahamut is too obvious, isn't he? :)

Liberi_Fatali

Wow, that was really obscure. But it was a good riddle nonetheless-- extremely easy riddles are not as fun.

BG-57... I'm thinking Diablos.

BG-57
02-28-2008, 09:58 PM
But Bahamut is too obvious, isn't he? :)

Yes he is. Not Bahamut. :)

BG-57... I'm thinking Diablos.

It's not Diablos, although he is very cool. :D

Liberi_Fatali
02-28-2008, 10:23 PM
Griever?

Rantz
02-28-2008, 10:31 PM
Let's try something a bit less obvious then. The astronaut Rinoa passes when heading out to Adel's tomb? He says something like "Huh? Who is that?", which is a question of identity. The voice is "heard" (pervasive), although voices can't really be heard in a vacuum (immaterial) environment.

You only hear him speak once, I think, unless that's Laguna. I don't rightly remember. I guess it could be questioned if he really wants an answer, since he just keeps on going instead of trying to find out.

Good guess but no.

Griever?

You're getting warmer.

Caveroamer
02-29-2008, 12:17 AM
Tiamat?

Liberi_Fatali
02-29-2008, 12:32 AM
I would guess Ultimecia, but the riddle says "he," so I'm guessing young Squall at the orphanage whenever he asks Edea who grown-up Squall is. It takes up when time is all screwy, so it makes sense.

BG-57
02-29-2008, 01:03 AM
It's not Tiamat or Squall.

'He' is referring to Griever.

Rantz
02-29-2008, 07:10 AM
Shockwave Pulsar, then?

BG-57
02-29-2008, 12:29 PM
Nope.

Aerith's Knight
02-29-2008, 03:35 PM
Squall?

Corrugo
02-29-2008, 06:00 PM
I'd guess Squall's ring but the whole immaterial thing wouldn't make much sense >.o

REPOST:
Pervasive but immaterial

If "he" is Griever, then what is the riddle asking? Is the answer the question? My next guess would be Rinoa, because she asks Squall to name the ring.

demondude
02-29-2008, 06:53 PM
So I did get Rantziens riddle right!
Damn you three guess answer. H8 U

BG-57
02-29-2008, 08:30 PM
Squall?

Still not Squall.

I'd guess Squall's ring but the whole immaterial thing wouldn't make much sense >.o

It isn't the ring.

If "he" is Griever, then what is the riddle asking? Is the answer the question? My next guess would be Rinoa, because she asks Squall to name the ring.

Not Rinoa.

The answer isn't Griever, but about something related to him.

demondude
02-29-2008, 08:38 PM
Going for the obvious I know but Ultimecia?

BG-57
02-29-2008, 08:52 PM
Not Ultimecia.

Corrugo
02-29-2008, 09:37 PM
Lion?

The Ring, Squall, Rinoa and Ultimecia are the only other ones I can think that relate to Griever

thegirth
02-29-2008, 10:46 PM
perhaps the final battle against griever?

BG-57
02-29-2008, 10:59 PM

You're close.

perhaps the final battle against griever?

Also close.

Neither guess is the answer, but it does involve both.

BG-57
03-01-2008, 11:42 AM

The Centra ruins where Odin dwells

There is a limit - the time limit

BG-57
03-07-2008, 10:12 PM
Is it related to the artist in Dollet? The one that makes cards?

Comet
03-07-2008, 10:47 PM
It's not Omega Weapon and it has nothing to do with cards or Dollet, but thegirth is right about the artistic line:

There is a limit
Maybe caused by a presence?
Your artistic skills - Drawing
In religious places

Liberi_Fatali
03-07-2008, 11:57 PM

thegirth

Right. If no one is gonna guess I'll give the answer. but please.... for the love of god... someone... keep this thread going.

Its the desert prison. I think now you know the answer, most of the lines make sense but I'll explain anyway.

A twist of penance, (Twist = shape. Penance = the repentance of sins, which you would be doing in prison)
high and below. (The prison goes above and below ground)
An adjustment you'll get, (battle meter adjustment)
if in the right room you go. (only one room you can get the battle meter adjustment in)
The spiral of life, ( Life refers to Life in prison)
where time goes so slow. (Obviously if your in prison time would drag)
Not haste nor stop,
are the right way to go.(There is a magic field in the prison where you cant use magic so, haste and stop are useless):mog:

Someone else have a go then.

If someone else wants to, they can go. Otherwise I'll post one soon. New riddle posted below.

Rantzien got it, Rinoa's limit. Your go.
Would you mind giving an explanation while we wait for Rantzien??

This is my reasoning:

Use me, I dare you,
There be no penalty. -> You don't lose spells by using it
Use me, yellow lady,
If your magic is few. -> If you only have a few spells it doesn't matter
Your wings hold me, -> "Angel wing"
I never stop. -> Stays until the end of the battle
I can be better,
if only you use three. -> If Rinoa only has three powerful spells, she will only use them and hence make the limit better.

Not sure about what "yellow lady" means.

Here's my riddle:

Left my robe and egressed, westbound
Gathered courage, then, and left ground

Now host of tricks of greatest power
Host of the outcast and half a flower

FFIX Choco Boy

I said "Yellow lady" as a referance to limits, only being able to use them when low on health.

It's not Rinoa. "half a flower" is the only really abstract part of the riddle.

Liberi_Fatali
07-24-2008, 05:54 PM
Squall when he acquires the Brothers. My reasoning:

Left my robe and egressed, westbound << I think this happened not long after he became a SeeD, so he stopped wearing his uniform. Deling City is to the west.
Gathered courage, then, and left ground << You don't have to go further into the Tomb of the Unknown King than the student's ID#, but if you do, you can fight the Brothers. Using float ("left ground") helps, since they use spells like Quake.

Now host of tricks of greatest power << You win the Brothers GF.
Host of the outcast and half a flower << They were outcasts, and one of them was small.

Rantz
07-24-2008, 10:32 PM
Very nice reasoning, but the answer is incorrect.

The second stanza is more down to earth, it describes three things the answer is host of. The first stanza describes a series of events from the history of the answer, but "left ground" does not refer to going airborne.

Left my robe and egressed, westbound
Gathered courage, then, and left ground

Now host of tricks of greatest power
Host of the outcast and half a flower

Wrong guesses:
Queen of cards
Edea
Garden
Ragnarok
Island Closest to Heaven/Hell
Ellone
Rinoa
Squall acquiring Brothers

Hints:
The answer is a person

How about Edea?

Left my robe and egressed, westbound (Maternal robe perhaps and headed to Galbadia, west(ish), from Centra)

Gathered courage, then, and left ground (Planned for the future by setting up SeeD with Cid, knowing thier purpose would be to kill her, before she left)

Now host of tricks of greatest power (Now possessed by Ulty)

Host of the outcast and half a flower (Outcast = Squall and half a flower = SeeD):mog:

Makes sense, the host of tricks of greatest power part means his cards, and host of the outcast... I don't remember that part, haven't played through 8 in forever.

It means that the founder of FH abandoned Esthar (outcasted by Esthar) and founded FH, away from all that technology.

Rantz
08-04-2008, 05:47 PM
Mayor Dobe is correct!

Left my robe and egressed, westbound
As an Estharian, he wore a robe, but presumably left it as he left Esthar. He went west over the transcontinental bridge.

Gathered courage, then, and left ground
Together with his comrades he founded FH, in the ocean.

Now host of tricks of greatest power
In his house, there is an Ultima draw point.

Host of the outcast and half a flower
Galbadia Garden's former headmaster, Martine, resides at Dobe's place after being shut out of GG. Dobe's wife is named Flo which is half the word 'flower'.

Many refer to me as a Giant, even a God. (Myth) - Hyperion is a Titan which is sometimes referred to as a giant

Metal is my Armor, Black is one of my nature. - the lower part is black

I am lethal at close range. - speaks for itself

The holder of the Hearth of a Lion - Not sure, hearth is associated with a place that holds fire...the fire spells Seifer cast at Squall in the beginning?

Can renew dreams, like in the past of ten years - ? His dreams to become sorceress knight is fulfilled?

Many refer to me as a Giant, even a God. - Titans were the first Gods until the Olympians like Zeus arrived.
Metal is my Armor, Black is one of my nature. - It's Black
I am lethal at close range. - Speaks for itself
The holder of the Hearth of a Lion... - Refering to Squall
Can renew dreams, like in the past of ten years. - Could renew Seifer's dreams (because serving Ultimecia is not his true dreams), Like Laguna finding Ellone (That was a tought one, it's also were you get the WMM#1 "Lionheart", so I'm not sure if I could accept Gunblade as a General Anwser)
My look may not reflect my capacities. - It's has a Gun Handle but can't shoot bullets
Half the name of the god is the clue to my identity - Hy/ne Hyperion 1/2, G/od Gunblade 1/3
Behold my might in the palm of your hand. - You can hold it

Since the anwser was Hyperion but Gunblade somewhat fits... I'm not sure who should get the credit.
