DarkBahamut

Wait, you can get the Rosetta Stone in Esthar by repeatingly going into the shop, so thats another guess

Repeatingly going into the closed shop owned by Cheryl

Also, repost:

Playing the organ in Ultimecia's castle. If you press the L- and R-buttons and the shape buttons all at the same time (an All button would speed things up), you'll get access to a Rosetta Stone. (To warm Ptolemy's heart)

I don't know why I didn't think of that before.

If this is correct (I'm fully clueless to be honest but it sounds plausible) then what is the first line alluding to?

BG-57
03-25-2009, 08:41 PM
Yes, it's the organ. All refers to Tutti, which is a button on organ consoles that allows you to play all the notes at once. The Cephalopod refers to having to push all the buttons would be easy for an octopus.

Your go, Rantzien.

Antipodes are opposites on the planet. The only antipodes that I can see on this handy map I have are the Islands Closest to Heaven/Hell.

I don't know how it relates to the other parts, apart from you can probably see Heaven from near Deling, near Winhill and near the Desert Prison.

I dunno, someone else solve it :D

Rantz
04-07-2009, 02:32 PM
Nothing is right so far. Antipodes isn't referring to opposite sides of the planet in this case, just opposites in general (as per the broader definition).

Seifer and Squall's scars

Twins and antipodes, solidus and its converse - Squall and Seifer are similar, yet they are like opposites.
Well known the bridges and fronts we traverse - Not sure
Painful was our beginning, but we welcomed you - The scars were painful to receive
You won't see the end of us, though we each have two - The scars don't heal

A lame attempt, but I like to provide reasoning for my guesses where possible.

Rantz
04-11-2009, 06:20 AM
Jiro is correct! :D

Twins and antipodes, solidus and its converse
Refers to the nature of the scars, they are "twins" because they're pretty much the same and were received at the same time. They are "antipodes" because, as "solidus and its converse" says, Seifer's squall is shaped like a solidus ( / ), and Squall's is mirrored ( \ ).

Well known the bridges and fronts we traverse
The scars both cross Seifer's and Squall's nosebridges and fronts. Well known because Squall and Seifer are such prominent characters.

Painful was our beginning, but we welcomed you
As Jiro says, the scars were painful to receive. "We welcomed you" refers to the fact that it's one of the first things you see happening in the game.

You won't see the end of us, though we each have two
The scars remain for the entirety of the game, but they do each have two ends (pertaining to their shape).

Jiro is up! :)

Gonna break it down even though I can't come up with an answer right now. xD

Not a place of concrete sculpture - I'm thinking this could be a reference to a location. Maybe Centra or Trabia Garden...

Not a fake drummer for a lettered band - No idea.

Not an unorthodox church hymn choice - Probably a reference to a song within this location. Can't think of one right now that might sound religious.

But her femininity is there to see - A female character.

BG-57
07-21-2009, 12:47 AM
To be fair, lines 1-3 are referencing things outside the game, and line 4 references something within it.

Yes, the answer is female, but maybe not obviously so.

Not a fake drummer for a lettered band (Eden was featured in some ABC videos)

I cried aloud with mirth and merriment I never guessed even close to the top 3 lines. The only reason I got it was because Eden isn't an ACTUAL building (line 1), and there's not many creatures in the game that have less obvious femininity than Adel :P

I only just realised I had a correct guess ages ago. My apologies for not returning with a riddle, it was my first correct answer! :o

Seifer and the events at the TV Station in Timber

A front row seat, - Squall and Co are right there, as are Deling, Seifer and Edea
but one is afraid to lose something precious. - Edea mentions that Seifer is afraid
Now I stand abandoned, - Seifer is effectively kicked out of Garden after this
with nought but a queen by my side. - Seifer becomes a Sorcesses' Knight, similar to a Queen's Knight I imagine

"A front row seat" - They were extremely close to one of the biggest spectacles in the world (the lunar cry)
"but one is afraid to lose something precious." - Squall is scared of losing Rinoa at this point.
"Now I stand abandoned" - self explanatory.
"with nought but a queen by my side." - The card queen is standing beside it when you find it on the world map.

Sorry I may have caused confusion because I actually forgot Piet was there with the card queen when you found it again. ^^'

Would the "red oversized" be the Galbadia Garden? I'm thinking it has something to do with when you fight Edea and Ultimecia isn't possessing her anymore. Like everyone forgives her and stuff and remember she is matron.

Rantz

The "red oversized" is not Galbadia Garden, and Edea and Ultimecia are not involved.

I may be taking an unusual understanding of your use of the word "past" or even "mistakes" for that matter, but could it be when you enter the prison cell in Ultimecia's castle and you have to defeat the Red Giant to get the key in order to escape?

Rantz
07-27-2009, 05:31 PM

Edit: The "red oversized" is not Esthar, and the answer is not Amnesia Greens.

Sword

They are optional mistakes, i.e. they could very well be avoided to begin with.

Pretty much I'm going off the big red button. I originally thought about the mistakes being whatever happens in the Missile Base with Selphie, and then I thought that (iirc) the button to activate Garden's flying mechanism is big and red (one red oversized). It's all I've got!

All I can think of is some status-refreshing magic, like dispel or esuna, but I don't remember them being red. Isn't Carbuncle's skill ruby light? Rubies are red, and it has one on its forehead. It's not exactly "oversized" and it doesn't neutralize any mistakes, so that can't be right.

Big red oversized has to be Galbadia Garden then?

But as to what mistakes of the past, I have no idea. Perhaps the mistake of the past was when they failed to assassinate Edea (the plan was drawn up by martine @ galbadian garden) and they then make up for this by attacking Galbadian garden head on against Seifer and Edea once more later in the game

So the mistakes are made by the player, yet are relevant to the plot?

Rantz

They're made by the player (I should reinforce that whether they are mistakes or not is highly subjective, although correcting them would imply that they were considered as such), but they aren't relevant to the plot at all.

just because it says red oversized, doesn't mean its big :P could mean its bigger than what else its related to :P

There is no such thing as a limit break gauge in FF8. You may only do your limit break when your HP are 1/3 or lower than your max HP.

Hmm, could it be a red Guardian Force, which lets you do things, of which it'd have been a mistake not to do it earlier?

All I can think of here is Phoenix and Ifrit.

My guess is the following:

Mistakes of the past are letting party members die.
They are quickly neutralized by a Phoenix Down/Pinion.
The solution is amassed,
from one red oversized, yeah, Phoenix has a lot of'em.

Is it the seeD exams that you can take from the menu, as with missions you can decrease your rank if you perform badly?

Rantz
09-03-2009, 08:01 PM
Neither. Remember that the "mistakes" are only mistakes if you consider them as such! Letting a party member die is definitely a mistake except in very specific circumstances, and I don't think your SeeD rank dropping is ever anything else than a mistake.

For real? I always thought she was hard; of course, I'm an awful card-player. ;)

If I'm right, anyone can take my place and make a riddle. I enjoy solving them much more than writing 'em. I had thought about the Catoblepas Card/Rename Card solution for that other riddle, but I discarded it when I thought that "over-sized" would refer to the card itself and not Catoblepas. Silly me.
