So, I apparently SUCK using melee characters. I can imagine I was grossly unprepared, but still, I want to say my lv 26 Martial Artist died at least ten times against normal Diablo last night. My resistances were in the 30s, which was probably my downfall, it's just that half the time I couldn't even hit Diablo let alone charge Tiger Strike. That was a very frustrating experience. Ugh!

So, I had to start my assassin over. Putting too many points into Claw Mastery without putting more points other places first, which was dumb of me. The attack rating bonus wasn't enough to be worth it. She's doing much better now than she did last time, my merc even stayed alive whilst I killed Duriel last night. In hell, at the start of my game, I usually take all of my money out of savings and drop it on the ground outside of the stash. Yes, you run the risk of lagging out of the game and loosing it all (which has happened to me twice), but if you die you won't lose any money. You just have to remember to pick it back up before you sign off.

The Ancients kicked my ass last night. I only tried once, but I just wasn't going to win. Even with both my merc and shadow master, then all still seemed to attack just me, and I couldn't handle it. *sigh* I guess I'll think of something, melee characters are so *ugh* when it comes to bosses.

Edit: Ancients are dead, it took a few more tries but I guess I just got unlucky the first time. I think I'm going to item hunt before I fight Baal.

Worry not about accounts. I already got the transfer from SRL (Which was very nice). Simply remake it and start over. Now that I have two MFers, I can rack up the items nicely, including Mulley's finds, assuming he has gotten on before expiration.

Take items from one of the characters you have and give them to another character. You however cannot do this by yourself (without danger of losing your stuff) because you can only have one character active at a time.

Like, I have two assassins, one of whom has Bartuc's Cut Throat greater talons. I want the other assassin to have it. So I can go into a game, drop the claws on the ground, leave the game, enter the game with the other assassin, pick the claws up, and they are hers. However, this is dangerous to do by yourself because your game is likely to go away in the time it takes for you to log off and back on, and the stuff on the ground goes with it. But having another person there negates that danger because the game won't close (unless that person lags or something, but in the time it takes for someone to lag you can probably log off and back on safely).

Do you think it wise to use a Jewel of Freedom on Natalya's Shadow to take the level requirement down from 73 (or possibly two, it has two sockets)? Furthermore, do you think it wise to use the socket reward from act 5 on Natalya's Mark, and then use a Jewel of Freedom on that to take the level requirement down from 79? Or should I just wait it out and use the sockets for something better?

I never use any sockets to lower the requirements on equipment. I think they are there for impatient players for the most part. I know it's tempting now to use a socket to lower the requirements, but just think, once you gain those levels you can put that socket to much better use.

The other option is to use a socket to lower the requirements but remember what the original requirements are. Then once you've reached the original requirements, use a Hel run to clear all of the sockets and put something better in.

Sine his asn is level seventy-some already, he won't really be going anywhere unless he does a Hell Baal run. However, it's probably a better idea not to have to use a Jewel (or Hel for that matter), run some games, and equip it when you can. You save Hel, the Jewel, the time invested, and can put something better in, if you are going to put something in at all (lol ptopaz).

For the most part, I don't really recall "minus to req'd" as stackable.

Then again, I'm all for Baal runs and impatience.

The set is for my martial arts assassin, who is only level 50 right now in nightmare. I guess I'll just wait it out. If I unsocket and resocket the armor I'll lose one socket, so that's out. But I might do it with the weapon if I find it early enough, because that doesn't have a socket in the first place.

You don't lose any sockets when you unsocket. You clear the sockets, you don't remove the sockets from the item. So if you have a 4 Socket Armor with some of the sockets filled and you don't like it, you combine the 4 Socket Armor and a Scroll of Town Portal and a Hel Rune in the cube and it removes any items that are socketed in the 4 Socket Armor, leaving you with an empty 4 Socket Armor.



1 Hel Rune + Scroll of Town Portal + Any Socketed Item = Remove items from sockets
Warning: This will destroy any gems, runes, or jewels you have socketed. This is useful if you are not happy with the gems you have socketed and you want to socket the item in another way.

As of this point on, Mulley is no longer allowed to xfer with me, because Blizzard hates it most when he actually drops more than a few items on the ground in an attempt to move items. He is punished by losing said items by disconnection of said "me."

Also, we are moving games, because it would seem that Blizzard is keeping an eye on us. Probably something to do with the xfers and frequent logging on and off of said "me," so, from this point on, all games should be held in games that represent some letters of your name, with the same password. We should stop using eoff/trout. I will mostly be playing in nuke/nuke.

Really, I am quite the n00b in all things online Diablo play. The feasible prospect of obtaining a SoJ is something new to me, so I am stumbling about, as you have noticed.

So, tell me, how exactly does the SoJ come about? Does someone already have it and you trade 40 Pgems for it as a standard form of currency, or is that you simply open a trade menu, trade 40 Pgems for anything, and someone recieves a SoJ? Or what? I am really lost save for one aspect of all this:

You go into the chat and spam Trading 40pgems for SoJ, or make a game called 40Pgems 4 Soj, then someone will come in with a SoJ or reply in chat and you'll do the trade.

The amount of duped Non-Ladder SoJs is close to 95%. On Ladder, the figure is closer to 50%. While I don't suggest trading 40 PGems for an SoJ, it's simply goes to show how much value 40 PGems are actually worth. Ladder SoJs disappear within a week, Non-Ladder disappear within the month, depending on how much Blizzard decides to suck on any given day.

Trading SoJs for PGems:
You open the trade menu, and you put in every single one, manually. Of course, you have to make sure that the person has space, and you as well. Most 40 PGem trades are done in private games. Public games requesting to trade away 40 PGems are usually to figure out whether or not the buyer will bite. If, for say, the person wants an SoJ, and someone with an SoJ happens to want 40 PGems, they will open the trade menu, just like any normal trade. There's no mysticism about it. Think of it as a normal trade; it just happens to involve SoJs.

Why 40 Pgems?:
Oddly enough, for such an easily attainable set of items (40PGems), people are willing to trade many nice things for it. I've seen as high as Ber and Jah for 40 PGems, but never Zod. Who knows what people do with 40 PGems after they get it, but it does seem to be acceptable everywhere, with an amorphous value that is almost always acceptable to the person who wants those 40 PGems (like 1990s American money). Maybe they trade something away for the 40 PGems, then they trade for a better item, like say, for instance, player with SoJ trades it away for 40 PGems, then using those 40 PGems, trades it for a higher rune.

History Lesson:
SoJs are duped, because at one point on Battle.net, people would dupe SoJs continuously, and they would stick. If you think about it, pretty valuable, +1 to all skills, +mana, etc. As such, it was not uncommon for someone to have 40 or more SoJs. It was considered "currency," for example, a Harlequin Crest Shako might've been worth might have been worth ten SoJs (I know, right?). When Blizzard finally cracked down on this, they released the 1.10 patch, encouraging people not only to let go of duping, but putting those extra SoJs to use, selling 6000 or more SoJs to vendors, activating Uber-Diablo.

The world is ever-changing:
Nowadays, while value can still be determined in SoJs, it is more popular to count value of item by "hr" meaning "High Runes," such as Cham, Ber, Ist, etc., except Zod, which is the highest, and is therefore, essentially equivalent to two of everything.

Depending on the character type, starting with an SoJ for 40 PGems is not the wisest thing. This is true, because you want a base for your equipment. If you have a duped SoJ, then you just traded away a bunch of your time for little to no reason, and you are set back by alot. If you trade them for something, say a Harlequin Crest Shako (+50% MF) or high rune (like, say, Vex), then you will either find it easier to get new Gems, or have a strong bartering item to use.

Naivete has nothing to do with the core of the situation.

LOL I screwed up one of my Spirit Runeword Swords. Wasted an Amn on it, of which I do not have a great multitude of (should've checked a little closer). The Runeword looked like TalIthOrtAmn instead of TalThulOrtAmn. Not only that, there goes a 4Os sword. Stupid Ith/Thul looking so similar!

Surprisingly enough, Spirit Swords are worth more than Spirit Shields (a little odd), and go for as high as an hr.

Alright, holidays are over people, lets get it back in gear. :D

SRLkungfu has reached level 73, so I can now wear that armor I was waiting for. And might I say, I am wearing a little less than 100% MF, and I have finding unique stuff left and right in Hell, am I just getting really lucky? Uniques are good, but I have yet to find the other two pieces of Natalya's Odium, which is a little argh. I have to wait until level 78 to wear the weapon anyway, so it's not so bad. Also, getting to the Countess I lost about 1.6 million money. I would have put all my money on the ground, but it was lagging and I didn't want to lose it. A lot of good that did. The lag monster also took a few uniques that I left on the ground that I didn't have room for that I was going to pick up after I finished that game. Oh well.

Tav, immediately upon fighting some monsters in hell I came across a 3 socket Monarch, a 5 socket Scourge and a 6 socket Phase Blade. I was rooting for something 4 socket, but it didn't happen. I'll keep looking. And no Vex yet.

I am looking for the runes Pul and Jah (I have Io) to make a Dream helm for my merc. Don't know if that's the best choice, but he already has Duriel's Shell which is maxing his resists in Hell, which is nice for those lightning enchated monsters. I'm thinking that my Shadow Master could probably go through Nightmare by herself, she recently only ever dies when I run too far away from her and the game decides that her death is the only way to solve the distance problem. And the level 15 Holy Shock aura sounds nice.

So SRLkungfu has beat Act I in Hell, but I'm afraid to go into Act II. It was one thing with my trap assassin who could stay back while the traps killed things, but my martial arts assassin will be taking the blunt end of a lot of lightning enchanted monsters in Act II with a lightning resist of -40. Even with a maxed lightning resist, my merc will still have a problem dealing with that magnitude. My level 25 Shadow Master has a resist all of 73, and if she casts Fade at level 13 it will give her another 58 to resist all, for a total of 131 resist all, thus making her immune to elements (she has no cap or nm/hell penalty :D ). But I have no control over that, she can be sketchy every once in a while. Eek.....I'll probably try to brave it later today I suppose.

And on a side note, for a melee character, with the exception of letting the merc finish off the monster, is there any way to escape the corpse explosion of a fire enchanted monster?

No 4Os anything? That's a shame. However, keep that 6Os Phase Blade. I recently saw a series of games looking for those. I don't think the 5Os Scourge is worth too much, since Flail are specifically used as to create low Str/Dex/Level weapons that have +skills, such as Call to Arms (+1 to all skills, and +to BOrders and BCommand). There are a few recipes with 3Os shields.

Don't know what to say about Dream. Holy Shock + Holy Freeze seems nice. Shadow Masters = own.

No, unless you have 75+ Fire resistance, which will still probably kill you. The only REAL way to escape Corpse Explosion is having mega loads of HP. I heard that Mercs/Pets/Summons don't take damage from Corpse explosions, but don't quote me on that.

EDIT: I also need to xfer my gear back to my proper characters.

ADDITION: Got the xfer, but lost 2 Spirit Swords along with it.

I was just watching a House episode, since I got the second season DVD for Christmas from my cousins. It was the one about the athlete and his manager. As it turns out, he supposed had cancer and a myriad of other symptoms. However, when he came to the hospital, he just got worse after crashing in a bike race. So it was that House cured him, by explaining that all of his problems were being solved by the athlete's blood doping and hyperbaric chamber self-enhancement. The moral of the story is that to cure ourselves of a debilitating disease, we must dope ourselves.

Check your options to make sure that all your sound preferences are on, if you want them. Otherwise, your sound card needs an imba update. Sound really isn't necessary once you've played the game more than once.

Tav, I saw 3 "Spirit"s in your stuff, but one of them was a shield. And no Cham, sorry man. You know (and I'm sure you do) if you want, you can combine 3 low runes in the cube and imbue the next rune up. And you can do it with the higher runes too, but you need a specific gem to go into the mix (not that we get that many high runes). It might clear up some space on a few of your mules.

For some reason, I get to the third floor of the Maggot Lair and bnet decides I need to stop playing and when it kicks me it immediately deletes the game. This has happened three times now, it's getting a little annoying. Maybe today will be different.

Spirit Swords. I made four of them, and all but two are gone. The Shield isn't technically even mine. It's Maxx Power's that he gave to me for free. I would consider synthing my runes, but some of the lower ones can go into some very nifty things. I can never be too sure, incase someone might want a trade and overpay it. I'll probably need a Cube on Mule, so I may need an xfer.

If you crash every single time you head into Maggot Lair 3, it'll keep happening. Either get someone else to do it, or try getting a rush.

As far as I read on gamefaqs.com, they added recipes on the 1.10 patch that allow you to imbue high runes for higher runes with the addition of a certain gem in the mix.

Ex.s:
3 Amn + 1 chipped Amethyst = 1 Sol
2 Gul + 1 Ruby = 1 Vex (they were nice with the really high runes)

I have yet to test these, but later I'm going to go find some chipped Amethysts and Topaz and try it, I have quite a few Amn and Thul runes taking up space.

It's one hundred percent MS. Whatever damage you do melee, it steals. THAT'S what's hilarious. Put it on an Enchanter Sorceress, and she'll have enough Mana to kill stuff by melee and use Hydras.

Yeah, you're definitely not going to be able to get through A2 without help.

As for that 6Os Phase blade, I doubt it would be able to go for alot, since a Socketing quest guarantees the same result. Also, Etheral 6Os Executioner swords go for even more, since they are made for BotD.

The number of sockets created will vary. The item must be normal and unsocketed. Low-quality items and superior items do not work. The item gets 1-6 sockets, randomly. However, the number of sockets is then restricted by the maximum number of sockets that base item with that ilvl can have. For example, if you have an item that can only have 2 sockets, there's a 5/6 chance of getting 2 sockets and a 1/6 chance of getting 1 socket.

I wonder if this could be used to make a 4Os Flail. I've already got plenty of PAmethyst, but I also have a Superior Flail, which does not work. When you see this, look a for a Flail, specifically a Flail, without prefixes or suffixes.

Tav, you might be interested to know the following, it seems I wasn't quite right about the socketing reward:


Normal items add the max number of Sockets depending on the item's level (this is determined by the level of the monster that dropped it) and the inherent maximum number of Sockets for the item's base type. So you may not always receive the "max" number of Sockets.
So, I guess if you get a flail from a low level monster and use the socket reward on it, you might get only 4 sockets. But if you get it from a really low level you might get three sockets. Is that what this is saying? I guess this method wouldn't be anymore or less risky than the rune method.

It almost always gives you max, regardless of level. You just have tobe lucky if you happen to want less. The Cube way seems like better odds. I had already read that before I asked you to use the socketing quest that first time. I've done all my research on this.

I use it on a Polearm for an Act II merc. I've never used it on a stave. I would rather an Infinity, but using this, I never have to put any points into Energy, and I pretty much don't carry anymore Mana Potions.

EDIT: If you happen to be doing Countess runs for the runes, try checking the Armor and Weapons racks for Monarch Shields. The Max amount of Sockets for one of those is 4, which means socket quest = 4Os shield for Spirit.

I'll be making an MFer Hammerdin, focusing on Cow-killing (and the selling of meat). +96 from a 4Os Hauberk, +72 from a 3Os Crown, +100 from Gull, +40 from Nagels, +30 from Chancies, +30 from the runeword "Rhyme" Shield, +30 from Tal Rasha's/GoldWrap, and I have yet to find a +MF Boots (You can buy +30 from vendors in Hell). No Amulets yet with MF, probably +30 if I can find them, and several MF charms. At this point, I'm looking at 488% MF - boots, Amulet, Charms, leaving me at 400% MF. Conceivably, I could also make a Merc with (96+72) and Silence, making 656% MF if the Mercenary gets a kill.

Remember, we play on Ladder on USEast. From what I have heard, a Ladder reset is planned, so use this time to become familiar with the concepts of government and inter-person politics. You may have to create a new character, since Open is different from Ladder.

What happens at a ladder reset?

All current Ladder characters are moved to Non-Ladder Realms (in our case, USEast), and all inactive characters are also summarily deleted (3 months+). All economy is reset, characters, trade values, etc. There is also the chance that all maphacks or dupes no longer work, as well as a general check for violatory accounts, bans, and other such technical things. Ladder-only items are also converted to their non-Ladder counterparts. For Example, Spirit Runeword Swords will become gemmed swords with Tal, Thul, Ort, and Amn's effects. Sometimes a new patch is released, which gets rid of lots of stuff, mostly abuses.

Essentially, everything is moved, and things start fresh.

Not withstanding is the innately increased difficulty of Ladder play in the first place.

If anyone sees this, I need an xfer, an NM rush, and World of Warcraft so I can embarass Lekana. Alliance is fail.

What kind of 2Os shield, a low requirements one (as in a sucky one) or one with good defense, but insane requirements? If so, I have the first one.

Also, I did my first full MF runs with my HDin. Found a Bartucs, and a low Pike Unique. My fortune is rocketing sky high with this HDin, because in my rush alone, I found 12 uniques and had to make 3 mules to contain all those items.

I also traded an Um for Skullder's Ire recently. I think I may have to expand my operations onto a third account; in fact, I could probably finance the entirety of EoFF per regular, posting, active member from level one to level 60, with some items higher that I would be willing to lend.

Also, once you do start gambling, make yourself an Edge bow (Tir + Tal + Amn). It has 15% off vendor prices. Having that equipped along with having a Gheed's Grand Charm on you gives you 30% off vendor prices and it makes your money go a lot farther when gambling.

hr = High Rune, as in, a rare rune that is harder to find than the others

A unique item is an item whose name is in gold. Often, these items are better versions of their normal, white named counterparts, with a various multitude of modifications (buffs), that make the item better than what one might find normally. If something is a Gladius (a white named item, Sword), there is a Unique version of it with many abilities that make it better (in this case, Bloodletter Gladius). Requirements are often equal to, or lower.

And Elite item is another form of a white named item, except better. If one finds a Long Sword, there is another form of that item, except better, having higher requirements for a better quality weapon, and in this case, something called a Tusk Sword. Elite items also have their own, Unique forms.

A Rune is an item in which you insert your items with. After they have been placed, they cannot be removed, except by a special use, which, ironically, requires another rune. Runes have word values, and special modifications and benefits that they can add to an item. If you spell a Runeword correctly by placing Runes in the correct order, a large number of modifications will show up on the item, turning it both into a Unique item, and have the proper spelling. Some are more useful than others.

I liquefy them, and inject them straight into the spine, so it goes to the brain as fast as possible.

Just remember that a 56% MF means that the enemies drop will in multiplied by 1.56. i.e. if an enemy has a 2% chance of dropping a unique item, your 56% MF will give it a 3% chance of dropping a unique item. Also, MF starts to have diminishing returns past 400%, so if you have 600% it won't multiply the enemy's drop chance by 7, rather it will multiply it by something a little less, lik 6 or 6.2 (I'm guessing, I don't know what the exact forumla is when the MF starts to drop off). But overall, more MF is better. :D

The formula isn't available, but if you go into the game's code, it can be calculated by using a very dilapidated form of Calculus. Or Algebra. Actually, it might be simple additions and subtraction.

Anyways, at 600, it begins to stay near x6. Even at maximum MF, 1187%, the rate is not much higher than 6.5. Unfortunately, your ability to find Magic items will stay at x11.67. Then again, these items can be sold for 35k, which is the same amount as a Amulet or Ring with Edge runeword Bow, and Gheed's in Act One.

Yes, Duriel is a bitch. However, he is killable.

I can't be very specific with my help because I don't know what kind of Paladin you are, so I'll just be general. There are two general ways to kill Duriel that I have experience in my time playing Diablo II.

1. Melee
If you are a melee character, you need to know one thing. Don't run. If you run, Duriel will attack you with a charge attack that you probably won't be fast enough to dodge with his Holy Freeze aura out. His charge attack is far more damaging than his normal attack. So just stay close to him and keep swinging. Get a belt with as many slots as available. Optimally, you want to fill them all with Full Rejuvination potions, but you will have had to been saving Rejuvination Potion from like the beginning in order to have that many right now (or have 12 or 16 normal gems). In any case, just keep attacking him. If you are using regular potions, use one if your HP gets half empty. He'll go down eventually. And an act I cold arrow merc doesn't hurt in this fight either.

2. Spellcaster
This method is more act II merc dependent. Have an act II merc with the prayer aura. Go into battle, again with as many potions as you can. Have the merc go up to Duriel and start attack. You stand in the back and cast your spells. Keep your right hand on the mouse, keep your left hand on Shift and 1-4. If you press Shift + 1 (representing the first column of potions, 2 for the second, etc etc.) this will give that potion to your merc instead of to you. So with this method, keep your merc alive, keep casting your spells, and Duriel will eventually go down.

In either case, cast a Scroll of Town Portal outside of Duriel's chamber, and give a few Thawing Potions to yourself and your merc to up your cold resist.

Or, just get one of us to kill Duriel for you. I can kill him in about five seconds on Normal with my SRLkungfu, and Tav can probably do the same. There's no shame is this, we promise.

You would fall under the Auradin category, for which there are many sub-categories. You would do well in a group (which is what auras are intended for). A lot of characters benefit from the Might aura: non-berserk Barbs, almost every Amazon, martial arts Assassins and her shadows, enchant-melee Sorcs, summoning Druids and Necros, werewolf/bear Druids, and a good 2/3's of Paladin builds.

Lots of people will like you, however if you stick with just the auras, as you go farther into the game you will start needing help from other players. Not a bad build, just probably not powerful enough to go solo after nightmare, which is true for many builds.

With my new Last Wish runeword Phase Blade, JahMalJahSurJahBer, I can kill anything in less than a hit, if it is before Hell mode. Worry not about cheating. Is it considered cheating to trade an Um for a Last Wish? Of course not!

Cruise, you'll probably do well as a Smiter Paladin, a Paladin who invests 20 levels into Smite, or a Zeal Paladin (20 for Zeal). Resistances are ALWAYS a good thing, since in Nightmare, your resistances take a penalty, and in Hell, they take an even more severe penalty. As you progress further and further, enemies will begin using more and more elemantal damage, and even have immunities.

The only two better weapons for a Barbarian/Zealadin than Last Wish are Pheonix weapons (which should be discouraged for fear of Fire Absorb) and Breath of the Dying. No enemy absorbs Poison (immunity only).
