• Series Creator Alludes to Next Project

Even though he's been busy lately promoting his latest game throughout Europe, Final Fantasy's papa Hironobu Sakaguchi took the time today to respond to a question from Japanese tweeter ikeda1986:

Roughly, ikeda1986 says "What's up, homie?" to which Sakagushi replies "Working on three new iOS games," which prompts ikeda1986 to say "Looking forward to it." A touching exchange indeed.

Sakaguchi resigned as executive vice president of Square in 2004, about a year after the company merged with Enix. He went on to create the Mistwalker game development corporation. You can see a list of games he's developed--often along with Final Fantasy fan favorite Nobuo Uematsu--on the corporations Wikipedia page here. Their most recent game, The Last Story (Wii), is set to release in Australia and Europe on the 23rd and 24th, respectively, and it looks fabulous.

Ah, The Last Story looks pretty awesome. I've already pre-ordered the collector's edition. It'll be released on my birthday! I love Sakaguchi, and I really wish I could have tried Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. All my friends seem to at least love Lost Odyssey and they aren't even heavy in to jRPG's. One day I'll buy a 360 just to play Mistwalker games. However, news for iOS games is fantastic. There's some really great old-school-esque RPG's popping up on the platform, and there's so much potential for some really cool games - especially with slimline physical d-pad/button attachments coming out.

Final Fantasy... Last Story. Even the battle music sounds vaguely familiar. Being that it's by Sakagushi and Uematsu, though, I can't help but approve.

I've got the collector's edition of Last Story pre-ordered and I'm really looking forward to playing it. Mistwalker knows how to create some amazing games, though that hardly comes as a surprise considering who the men behind the company are. Lost Odyssey has to be my absolute favourite current gen RPG. It even beats some of my old favourites. Let's see how well Last Story compares!

I wish it could come over here to the US, but I suppose I could just order it from a England retailer, but I imagine the shipping cost would be high.

I'd rather have them making games on PS3/360 or even PSP/DS, but I'm interested in how their iOS titles work out.
