• SE Orders a Field Destroy on XIV

Final Fantasy XIV got a rocky start but has recently made waves on the 2.0 version or what they are calling " A Realm Reborn." Who knew they really did plan on ditching all the old to bring in the new.

A retailer posted on the NeoGaf forums that he was issued a field destroy on the original Final fantasy XIV games. They say the Rep for Square Enix told them they'd credit $16 for each game. If you don't know, Field Destroy means to physically get rid of the games in retail stores. When questioned, Square had this to say originally ignoring the rumor.

"We haven't announced pricing and launch time for the title yet. However, we have publicly stated that beta will begin at the end of this year."
When pressed further they released this statement:

"In anticipation of the upcoming Alpha and Beta tests for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, Square Enix, in coordination with our retail partners, has decided to discontinue sales of the current version of Final Fantasy XIV. This move was done to help ensure that new customers who register their copy of Final Fantasy XIV will have full access to the 30-day free trial period prior the servers shutting down to prepare for the Alpha and Beta tests of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn."
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is expected to be released later this year for PC, PS3, and is said to be scalable to next gen platforms.

This is why I ninja'd Amazon earlier, though it was already hard to find at that point too.

Jiro, there will undoubtedly still be places you can get it. You just gotta believe! And, y'no, ask/look around.

It's ok, 2.0 will be here soon enough! It's look fantastic so far, I'm not even sure if the game is worth playing if you're just starting now anyways, so may as well wait it out with a fresh start.

Of course they did. First, it would look confusing and unprofessional for customers to have two different versions of FF14 in stores. Secondly, SE wants to sell the new version at 50 bucks a piece, probably. And thirdly, if lots of people bought V1 now because they were planning on getting V2, that would mean a lot more people would be downloading the full new client from SEs servers, which means they would either have to pay for more mirrors, or have everyone's download speeds suffer.

And if you haven't bought the game by now (it's been sitting at $10 for quite a while), I don't think you were that interested in it in the first place.

I echo Jiro's statement: this is why I had to haunt Amazon to find this.

There are more factors than just price. Internet speed, income and free time are also important things to consider before embarking on a MMORPG adventure with Loony BoB.
