• Beta Test Application Site Open for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

Square-Enix has announced that it is now recruiting beta phase testers for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

Legacy status account holders need not apply for the first phase of the beta through the application site, though according to the website they will have to apply for the Playstation 3 beta phase. Although if you applied to be a PS3 beta tester for FFXIV 1.0, you won’t have to apply again as your application will be automatically reconsidered, but you would need to apply to be a tester for the PC version.

Lastly, those who have a Members Code from buying Final Fantasy XIII way back when can enter it to receive priority consideration to be a beta tester.

Anyone who is interested should go apply now. The beta itself will not start until later next month. In the meantime, good luck to all the applicants!

I was just attempting to register for the beta, but USA doesn't appear in the region selection. Am I SOL? I'm wondering if I should just pick a random country, or wait until they correct the issue.

Huh? I just checked on the site, and the US appears as the default country for me.

Hmmmmm. Your link works for me just fine, thanks!

When I went to the site through IGN:
      https://secure.square-enix.com/enqt/...40152ec5598ba9

United States/Canada doesn't show up. Several other IGN guys were noticing the no US link as well.

      Thanks again!

Man I NEED a new computer before this comes out so is it bad i'm wishing it stays in beta just a little longer than normal?

Beta will finish, at the absolutely earliest, if everything in the world goes right, in mid-April. If we're more realistic, beta phase four will be finishing some time early this summer. I'd wager that you have until August to get a new computer.

Awesome. That gives me plenty of time! I want to join you guys so bad. I've been itching too since i haven't played an MMO since WoW back in 09. It's been years since i've been able to really get into one and I am very eager to.

Apply now. If you by the time you get accepted you have a computer that can run it, great. If you do not, then you get an invite but never actually activate an account for beta. Nothing lost. Just guess at what specs you expect the computer you plan on buying will have.

I plan on building one but that's actually a great idea! I'll try that.

Makes it even easier to guess at specs if you've already started pricing up parts!

You can build a good rig for much cheaper than you'll find in a store. I'm not sure what your experience level with PCs are, but if you need some suggestions I'll be more than happy to help out, or at least point you to some good PC building forums/articles.

Ah, I see what happened. When you click on the Lodestone link, it moves you to a secure server, likely based on your country of origin. The person who wrote the IGN article probably lives outside of the US, and just linked to the https:// address the link connected him/her to. I noticed the transfer to a secure URL and thought something like that might happen, and instead used the same URL posted on the Lodestone announcement for this article.

I agree with Ouch; just apply now anyway.

Even if you don't end up getting a computer in time, 2.0 is designed to accommodate a wide range of specs, both higher and lower than the specs for 1.0. I could run 1.0 just fine with my 2010 duo core 6GB RAM laptop so if you have something remotely similar, it will probably work for 2.0.

Raist: I'm surprised if it takes you to the region of your choice as you have /na at the end of your link and when I had clicked it yesterday United Kingdom didn't show up in the list.

      Also: LEGACY. SMURF YEAH.

I assume it was to countries within the region, but it could be something else entirely to individualize the secured links. Either way, linking to the secure URL apparently messes things up.

I did apply for beta, but I doubt I'll get in very early. Amusingly I was too busy writing and reading about FFXIV to actually play very much last fall.

If any of us do get selected into the Beta, do we have to choose a server? Also, can you choose any server once the game goes live, even if it is outside your region?
