Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn producer Yoshi-P has kicked off another day at E3 by releasing a new gameplay video with developer’s commentary, and this one is on the user interface for the Playstation 3 version. Check it out!

In this twenty minute video, Yoshi-P walks PS3 players through FFXIV’s mechanics step-by-step, form starting the game and character creation to

The dev team has apparently added “as many [customization] options as possible” during character creation since we got our first look at the process before the alpha version, in response to alpha and beta tester feedback. Yoshi-P also promised further updates in the future.

Yoshi-P then showed off the controls and gameplay of ARR, much like he did earlier this year for the gamepad on the PC version. You see Yoshi-P control his character through Eorzea, navigating menus, accepting quests, and engaging in combat.

The biggest takeaway of the video is how streamlined and polished the UI has become. The duty list on the side of the screen that lists active quests and objectives, combined with a more comprehensive map, makes keeping track of and browsing through information very simple. The cross hotbar for ability hotkeys works the same as with the gamepad on the PC, making it easy to navigate between a dozen preselected abilities with two quick buttons. PS3 owners who were concerned about keeping up with their PC counterparts do not need to worry.

And with the phase 3 of the beta, which means the start of PS3 beta testing, to commence on June 14, PS3 players will soon finally be able to experience Eorzea for themselves.

Looks like they've done a good job adapting a PS3 controller to an interface that is pretty full on.
