Famitsu just ran an article on the remake of Final Fantasy VII and gave us some new tidbits. Let the hype/backlash commence.

- We'll get to explore all the parts of Midgard.

- The story is going to develop Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie a little more.

- SE is not sure how many Episodes there will be at this point.

- No word on any online features yet.

- The Main Scenario for the first part of the multi-series is complete.

- The game is using the Unreal Engine 4 and the KH team is apparently helping develop it.

- The addition of VA work means that Cloud's "voices" will be more interesting and meaningful.

- Expect most of the Advent Children VA cast to reprise their roles.

- The "ATB Gauge" that fills up and turns red is special and not associated with Limit Breaks.

- SE has a new element to the battle system they haven't shown yet that will change combat depending on the player's play style.

- They have yet to decide if their will be a Guard command.

Thoughts?

SE is not sure how many Episodes there will be at this point.

That really freaking bugs me.

So you're remaking Final Fantasy VII. Apparently it is such an intensive undertaking that Square Enix, makers of massive RPGs, aren't able to do it without a multi-part release. This is the video game equivalent of landing human beings on the moon. And they don't know how many episodes there will be!? When the stakes are this high and the scale of the project so massive, "winging it" is not a valid option.

Look, SE, if you're gonna do this thing that seems really weird and dumb to a lot of people, at least give us the impression that you actually have a plan that you've given some level of thought to. Please.

I can't help but laugh that they don't know how many episodes there are going to be. Guess we were giving them too much credit assuming they'd have a number in mind.

The rest sounds fine, but I'm afraid my optimism has reverted down to caution since Modern Day Square Penis continue to rear its ugly head in this project.

Unknown number of episodes frightens me. Are they going to see how well they do with a first episode before deciding how much they're going to milk the hell out of it?

So I was right with Midgar. I expect the episodes to be like 7 or so as I said. Maybe also just 5.

Just throwing it out there, but what if this ends up being like MGSV, in the sense that it's a full game split in to various parts. I haven't played it myself, nor do I intend to, but I've read that you had to sit through tons of credits after each part.

Are we going to be paying full game price for each episode? :S If so, there better be min 40hrs content per chapter/episode!

Also I am looking forward to seeing Jessie, Biggs and Wedge's characters fleshed out. I always felt bad for Jessie and her obvious crush on Cloud.

The only news that really concerns me is the return of the Advent Children's cast, namely Aerith. I've always maintained that Aerith's personality, at least in the original script, is more "flirty spunky chick with sass to spare" rather than "waif with no real independence".

Keep in mind that this comes from Famitsu, so it's possible they're only referring to the Japanese VA's.

Crisis Core really nailed Aerith's voice, though.

That's why we need that damn petition to bring Andrea Bowen back!
