With the JUMP Festa just five days away, Square Enix is pulling out all the stops to make sure Final Fantasy has a strong presence at this year's event.  Hot on the heels of the exciting news about the Nintendo DS title Ring of Fates, Square has let slip some new information regarding their other two surefire portable hits, Revenant Wings and Crisis Core.

The latest issue of Famitsu reports that Revenant Wings takes place above Ivalice in a place called Remless, a floating island chain far above the locations familiar to FFXII enthusiasts.  The island chain is inhabited by a race of Eagle Humes, who apparently live relatively short lives of approximately 40 years.  One of these Eagles, a young soldier by the name of Lluyd, meets Vaan and Penelo on their adventure.

Apparently the game will use the second screen to display additional data, as there will be too much to cram onto one screen.  Gamers will also purportedly be able to switch the screens between top and bottom, and it will be interesting to see how this feature works with the touch-screen interface.

Unfortunately, Revenant Wings will not be playable at JUMP Festa, but a new trailer is a likely bet.

Unlike the Final Fantasy XII sequel, however, Square Enix's long-in-development Read More Read More

The JUMP Fiesta is looking more and more appealing, as Square Enix has added another drool-worthy title to their lineup.  The upcoming Crystal Chronicles entry for the Nintendo DS, titled Ring of Fates, will be playable at this year's JUMP Festival, starting in just a few days.  Even better, they've launched a teaser site for Ring of Fates, which will presumably be replaced by a fully interactive flash-based website in the near future.

Also, a new Crystal Chronicles magazine scan has recently found its way onto the web.  To get a glimpse of what Ring of Fates will look like, click here.  Do the character outfits indicate a return of the popular job system?  New details on Crystal Chronicles will likely surface on December 16th with the start of JUMP Fiesta, so check back soon for more information!

Two new Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings scans have hit the 'net, and if there was any doubt that Square Enix would create one of the best looking games on the DS, these new images will undoubtedly crush that idea.  Not only are the environments beautiful, but the sprites appear to be large and detailed.

Apparently, Revenant Wings retains the Gambit system, and while combat will still take place in real time, players can now use the stylus to maneuver their characters around the battlefield.  And, again, just like in FFXII, the battles take place with no transition to a special screen--they'll be right on the game map itself.

Judging from the screenshots, Revenant Wings will support a four-character party system (or perhaps three characters with a guest, a la FFXII?) and will be no slouch in the battle department--Vaan, Penelo, and their companions look pretty well surrounded in several of the images.

A new scan has surfaced of Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, the FFXII offshoot for the Nintendo DS!  While the image is small and the quality is somewhat low, this scan still gives us our first glimpse of what Revenant Wings will actually look like.  Looks like gamers have another 2D adventure in store!

In addition to the two tiny screenshots, the magazine scan reveals a new character named Ryuda.  Will he roam the skies as an air pirate with Vaan and Penelo?  Only time will tell.

Recent reports online have indicated that Square Enix may have set a final release date for Final Fantasy VI Advance.  According to various sources, the North American version of FFVI Advance will be released on February 5th, 2007.  The set Japanese date for the title was November 30th; it should be available in stores now (or for import, for that matter).

While it is impossible to know that February 5th is indeed the final release date for FFVIA without official confirmation, the date seems to fit with the trend of Square Enix's recent portable titles seeing NA releases shortly before or after their Japanese counterparts. ...

For the first time ever, Final Fantasy III is now available outside of Japan.  Legally, and in English, that is.  The 3D DS remake of Final Fantasy III should be available at retailers across the United States.

Reviews have been mostly positive, but those who expect an easy romp through a fantasy world best look elsewhere--Final Fantasy III brings with it the difficulty to be expected of a dated RPG.  But with the gorgeous 3D graphics that really push the DS to its limits, let's face it--this is not an adventure that any self-respecting Final Fantasy fan would miss. ...

The publication Dengeki PS3 recently had a chance to interview Square Enix's Motomu Toriyama and Tetsuya Nomura, both of whom are hard at work on the next installment in the Final Fantasy series.

As many of you may know, FFXIII originally began being developed as a Playstation 2 title.  The project was abandoned in May 2005 and moved to the PS3.  As it turns out, very little of the work put into the game was kept: the characters, mythology, and Fabula Nova Cyrstalis world were retained, but everything else that had been created--the graphical elements, the battle and gameplay systems--were all scrapped.

The Final Fantasy XIII staff has grown since the PS2 days, and is now working under the game's producer, Yoshinori Kitase.  However, they are not yet fully focused on developing XIII.  The staff is, instead, still working on perfecting the White Engine, Square Enix's multipurpose engine that will be utilized in many upcoming PS3 titles, and not just FFXIII, as Nomura explained: "It's sort of like FFXIII is there as a target. FF Versus XIII will also use the White Engine, and it will be ...

In the latest issue of Japan's Dengeki Playstation, Square Enix's resident renaissance man Tetsuya Nomura commented on the question fans around the world have been eagerly asking since days after Kingdom Hearts II was released--when are we getting Kingdom Hearts III?

According to Nomura, Disney has already approaced Square Enix about another Kingdom Hearts title.  However, the Kingdom Hearts II team is finishing up work on Final Mix+, the enhanced version of Kingdom Hearts II; after completing their current project, the Kingdom Hearts team is going straight to work on Final Fantasy Versus XIII.  Nomura stated that he felt it was "not the right time to talk about the future of Kingdom Hearts."

With Nomura focused on a wide variety of projects--including the remix of Kingdom Hearts II, the Blu-ray edition of Advent Children, and Final Fantasy Versus XIII--it doesn't look like work on another Kingdom Hearts title will begin any time soon.  But with Square Enix releasing so many other products in the coming months, perhaps keeping Kingdom Hearts ...

As Final Fantasy XII's domestic release draws ever closer, Square Enix has begun to reveal more about the game's soundtrack.  Published by Tofu records, XII's soundtrack will be a bit different than many of the ones we've seen in the past.  Rather than being an all-encompassing collection of every piece of music in the game, the Final Fantasy XII Original Soundtrack will feature 31 selected tracks from the game.

Thirty of the songs on the OST are composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto, while the last is Final Fantasy XII's theme song, "Kiss Me Goodbye," composed by Nobuo Uematsu and sung by Angela Aki.  Below are images of the sountrack: the first is what the front cover looks like folded out, while the rest are the inside artwork.

Thought you'd seen every bit of action in  Square Enix's full-length CG film Advent Children?  Think again.  At this year's Tokyo Game Show, Square Enix has just announced a "Director's Cut" version of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children for Sony's Blu-Ray DVD.

The Complete version of Advent Children will sport a much higher resolution than the normal DVD, and contains altered scenes and a few new ones to boot.  According to IGN, one of the scenes featured in a new trailer included Sephiroth impaling Cloud and lifting him above his head (think original FF7).
We'll have new information or media as soon as it becomes available.
