Dragon Quest is one of the oldest JRPG franchises debuting in 1986, a full year before Square Enix's other flagship RPG series, Final Fantasy. Dragon Quest XI is officially out in Japan as of today, but series game designer, Yuji Hori, just announced the Western release yesterday morning. Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age will be coming to North America in 2018. Dragon Quest XI will be localized in five languages and will likely release for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS as those are the available platforms in Japan. You can also play the PS4 version on the PSVita via remote play.

It's up in the air if we'll get the odd PlayStation 4 and 3DS combo package that's available in Japan. The PlayStation 4 version is in a full 3D HD environment while the 3DS version has a choice between a 3D chibi version or a classic 2D version. A Nintendo Switch version was announced a while ago, but that version is currently without a date. Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age is the first mainline Dragon ...

Rumor has it that Square Enix is working on a new game of a highly super-famous RPG series. Website dualshockers reported that a Japanese publisher/developer is looking for new developers. The info was found from an ad on a Japanese career site, ECareerFA. While a particular publisher isn't mentioned they state, "it’s described as having created “huge RPGs” and having launched online games as well. It has a digital entertainment business that provides “high quality games with unique world views” and delivered “a large number of million-sellers.” On top of that, the company has an amusement business based focused on the Taito Station arcades (Taito is owned by Square Enix), a publishing business for manga, and a licensing business." This sounds a lot like Square Enix. Square currently has three franchises that could be considered super famous; Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Kingdom Hearts. All three franchises currently have games in development (Final Fantasy VII Remake, Dragon Quest XI, ...

The 3DS port for the PS2 RPG classic is less than a month away and today, Square Enix presents two new trailers for the port's two exclusive playable characters Morrie and Red. Morrie and Red were in the original game; the player was introduced to Morrie when they came across the optional Monster Arena and Red wove into the game's plot during one dungeon before she took off and was never seen again.

In these trailers we see that Morrie can use fisticuffs, boomerangs, and clubs for weapons. His fourth skill set, Passion, allows him to call monsters for special attacks unlike the Call Monster ability by the Hero which switches the party out for your Monster Arena team. Red on the other hand uses fisticuffs, fans, and whips. Her fourth skill set Roguery allows her to summon help from her pirate crew to assault enemies.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King 3DS arrives on January 20, 2017.

Final Fantasy XV drops in little over a month and Square keeps dripping information for the game. Today, we have four minute gameplay video of Noctis casting this iteration's Death spell. Death in this game works a bit differently than what we're used to seeing in the series. A purple light emerges from Noctis's hand and the enemy's health is slowly drained and converted to Noctis while it grows thin and eventually disappears. It's definitely different and seems to be more accurate than its appearances in other games with the downside being that it isn't instantaneous.
You can watch the gameplay trailer below. Final Fantasy XV hits PlayStation 4 and PC on November 29.

Square Enix's followup to NieR made it to Tokyo Game Show this year and with a new demo showing off the tech and stylized combat that the developer Platinum Games is known for. The two gameplay videos were released from these demos showed off some impressive feats. The first displaying a story segment of the game that blends this action game with 2D side scrolling with a bit of platforming ensuring that the game will always give you new ways to keep your attention.

The second video shows off the High Score Challenge Mode which is basic arena battle mode where you attempt to rack up as most points as possible within the time limit. Here we can witness the high speed intense combat in all it's glory. The attacks are viscous and visceral and even from the video you can feel the blows being delivered on each enemy. The combat appears very smooth and intuitive. In this gif we can see YoRHa switching from gauntlets to katanna halfway into the air combo flawlessly.
