    Square has announced that Final Fantasy I and Final Fantasy II are to be remade for the PSOne.

    As you may recall, Square has remade the two games for Bandai's Wonderswan Color, however, the portable system was never released outside of Asia and, as a result, the remakes were confined to Asia as well. The Wonderswan Color games were very similar to their NES counterparts, but received graphical updates.

    The PSOne versions of the games will include updated graphics, sounds, and additional events and scenes. In addition, Mode 7 graphics (similar to Final Fantasy V, 3D-esque) will be used while riding the Airship. FMVs in the introduction and ending of the game will be added as well.

    Though the two remakes are to be released seperately, Square is also planning to release a compilation of the two games—Final Fantasy I & II Premium Pack, which will include action figures, picture labels, a monster picture book and an art book.

    Square has released information about the Windows version of Final Fantasy XI.

    Minimum requirements for Final Fantasy XI on PC (Windows):

    Processor: Intel Pentium III, Pentium 4 recommended.
    Memory: 128MB RAM, 256MB recommended.
    Graphics: DirectX8.1 AGP compatible, Nvidia GeForce 3 recommended.
    Sound: DirectX8.1 compatible.
    CD-ROM: 4X or higher, 32X recommended.
    Modem: 56K.
    Operating System: Windows 98, 98SE, ME, 2000, XP compatible.

    Note: The PC version of Final Fantasy XI also uses the same servers as the Playstation 2 version.

    While the Playstation 2 game is due for a first-quarter 2003 release in North America, the release date for the PC version in both North America and Europe is currently unknown.

    Former president of Nintendo Hiroshi Yamauchi mentioned in an analysts' meeting that Square will release a new Final Fantasy game for the GameCube sometime next year in Japan. Development of the game will be handled by Square's newly-acquired subsidiary Game Developer Studio.

    While not much information has been released, it is known that the game will feature some sort of connectivity with Nintendo's Game Boy Advance.

    Square has announced the release of a DVD box set entitled "Final Fantasy: The Adventure Bible" in Japan. It will be available in Japan starting on July 25, 2002 and includes 3 DVDs detailing the storyline and background information of every mainstream Final Fantasy title that has been released up until now:

    Disc 1 covers Final Fantasy I, II, III, XI.

    Disc 2 covers Final Fantasy IV, V, VI.

    Disc 3 covers Final Fantasy VII, VIII, IX and X.

    Distribution of Final Fantasy: The Adventure Bible is being handled by Enterbrain. There has been no word of a release for this compilation outside of Japan.

    Since the release of Final Fantasy X: International in Japan, many have wondered at the possibility of a sequel for many months; however, there have been no official announcements until now.

    On May 28, 2002, Mainichi Interactive released information that two new spinoffs of Final Fantasy X are in development after a financial report meeting with Square. Code-named "Yuna Version" and "Rikku Version", these two games take place after the extended ending of Final Fantasy X: International. Not much else is known at the time, as no information regarding what the two versions signify and how the story is driven has been released.

    The two games are planned for a release in Japan by the end of this fiscal year.
