    What is Abyssea?

    Abyssea is what transforms FFXI from what it was in the days of the 75 cap into a newly accessible game; it's a series of nine new areas with content for people levels 75-99; Think of it as an alternate universe Vana'diel where people from our Vana'diel can get what basically amounts to superpowers. Most of your post-75 levelling (post-65 for mages) will be done in Aby, and there is some great non-levelling content, too.

    It's a bit different from regular zones, though -- for one, your time there is limited. In order to move around in Abyssea, you'll need Visitant Status.

    Level 30: Getting Started in Abyssea
    Wait, level 30? Didn't I just say it was level 75+ content? Well, yes, but the preparation for Abyssea can and should be started as soon as you hit level 30, since this is the minimum level for entrance into the Abyssea zones. First, make sure that you have registered all 3 of the Abyssea expansion packs and then head to Port Jeuno for a cutscene involving Joachim, then speak to him to get your first Traverser Stone. From this point, a timer starts and you will be able to obtain a new Traverser Stone every 20 hours (at first). Each Traverser Stone can be redeemed for 30 minutes of Visitant status. In the beginning, you'll be able to carry a maximum of 3 Traverser Stones at once, but they will continue accumulating, so if you get started at 30, by the time you reach 75 you won't have to worry about running out.

    The level 30 preparation doesn't stop there, though.

    Next, you'll want to head to one of the Cavernous Maws that lead to Abyssea. These look the same as the ones for WotG, but will be in different locations. The Maws are located as follows:

    Visions of Abyssea (75+ zones)
    Abyssea - La Thene -> La Theine Plateau (E-4)
    Abyssea - Konschtat -> Konschtat Highlands (I-12)
    Abyssea - Tahrongi -> Tahrongi Canyon (H-12)

    Scars of Abyssea (85+ zones, where Empyreal boots drop)
    Abyssea - Misareaux -> Valkurm Dunes (I-9)
    Abyssea - Vunkerl -> Jugner Forest (J-8)
    Abyssea - Attowha -> Buburimu Peninsula (F-7) ((near ...

    It appears that our affiliate site, Final Fantasy Republic, has been shut down by its owner, and will not be resumed by anybody else, so I've removed it from our affiliates list.

    I'm tempted to try to sneak Vesper on there in its place, but Roog would bobittize me.

    Any former FFR members are, of course, welcome to join EoFF to fill the void, and if anybody *does* buy the domain and license from afterlab, let me know and I'll reinstate the affiliation.

    Lastly, to everyone: Good luck, to wherever the winds may blow ye. ...

    I do believe that the site staff are in the process of updating the contact page, but if you have been having any difficulties with the forums, you should contact me (citizenbleys@eyesonff.com) or another admin (I don't know their email addies off the top of my head for the fastest resolution of your problem. Roogle and BoB, who answer webmaster@eyesonff.com are unable to resolve difficulties in registering for the forums.

    The only piece of information you need to get your account activated is the user name you registered under; The use of registration numbers is for the computer to automatically validate your registration, while I do it manually. (As in, if you're emailing me to validate your account, OBVIOUSLY you are using a real email address, so there's no need to run it through the server) ...

    I've just been made aware of yet another patch for FF7PC.

    This patch is targeted at Windows XP users, but should probably improve performance/graphics on almost any machine in the post-TNT graphics card era. So if your computer sucks, don't bother with this patch.

    I'll add the link to the FF7 section when I'm less lazy. ...

    The Riva TnT patch for Final Fantasy VII PC version has been added to the FF7 section of the site, as well as the GeForce and non-GeForce versions of the bug fix patch for Final Fantasy VIII.

    People wishing to play FF7PC with later nVidia video cards such as a TnT2 or any of the GeForce series should use the patch that's been added to the FF7 section.

    Both patches are located on the left-hand navigation pane. ...

    The staff of Eyes On Final Fantasy is pleased to announce the addition of a new affiliate site, FFRepublic. The FFR and EoFF forums have influenced each other lately, and some current and former FFR staffers (Sakura Yume [current], Rainecloud, and Dew Drop) have come from EoFF.

    We'd especially like to thank the staff of FFR for de-annoying-ifying Rei and Rainecloud. *ducks bullets* ...

    In a shocking move today, Eyes On Final Fantasy owner and webmaster Sean Robinson sold the site to an anonymous bidder believed to have highly placed mafia contacts. It's possible, even, that the new owner might, in fact, be a mafia don himself.

    An investigation into the lives of several notable Eyes On Final Fantasy members turned up possible mafia connections in every member investigated except for one.

    Robinson, as well as all of the members of Cid's Knights, were conveniently "unavailable" when this reporter sought comment.

    When asked for comments, EyesonFF spokesman Scottie "Thumbs" Triola said only this

    What does this mean for the forums? Perhaps only time will tell. Stay tuned for more updates on this situation in the near future. ...
