Is it the men in black hoods at the Northern Crater?
Rantz
10-20-2006, 02:12 PM
Could very well be, but what about this line then?
"We'll never, ever look the same"
Alhough I guess it could refer to the number tattoos.
FFIX Choco Boy
10-20-2006, 11:04 PM
I think that's it too.
My_car_is_faster_than_you

My that refers to the fact that they are tattooed SP? different.
Firo Volondé
10-21-2006, 05:07 AM
The fourth and fifth lines should be switched, I just wanted to make them rhyme...
Actually, it's more of a Final Fantasy in general riddle than specifically to ff7, I'd just seen them while re-playing 7 and decided to make a riddle about them.
Cledarius
10-21-2006, 07:04 PM
Hmm, maybe Biggs and Wedge?
Firo Volondé
10-22-2006, 05:33 AM
Correct. Your turn now, Cledarius.
Cledarius
10-22-2006, 01:07 PM
Yay my turn!
Ok *thinks of a riddle*
Here an easy one:
Elements are my strenght
if you're not prepared you die
That should do. If not, more lines will come.
The Mog Ninja
10-22-2006, 01:30 PM
Um... Aerith?
Twilight Edge
10-22-2006, 03:12 PM
Schizo? He has multiple elements (fire, ice, lightning and earth).
Cledarius
10-22-2006, 04:05 PM
Jep, Twilight Edge's right. Easy as I said right?
Gimme a new riddle!
Twilight Edge
10-22-2006, 04:17 PM
Here goes nothing!
Nutritious in life
Retarded in strife
I breed offsprings off my own body
Yet there is no nutrition in my body
Should be easy enough.
Dragon Mage
10-23-2006, 03:13 AM
Er...I forgot what the monster was called, but I'll guess it's those egg shaped monsters outside of Costa del Sol.
Twilight Edge
10-23-2006, 11:41 AM
Yep it's Grangalan, easy right? Your go, Dragon Mage.
Dragon Mage
10-25-2006, 03:55 AM
Whoa, i can't believe I got it right!
I was in a war with gods,
I was cast down with my brethren.
In Hades we were doomed to dwell,
Exiled by those in heaven.
Who am I?
This probably isn't very good, but it's the best I could come up with right off the top of my head. I can make a better one if you wish, since I'll have more time.
Firo Volondé
10-25-2006, 10:59 AM
As a completely wild and random guess, Jenova
Well one Hades was the god of the underworld not a place. Is it Cloud?
Reason: The one winged angel Sephiroth Clouds mortal enemy.
Rantz
10-25-2006, 12:28 PM
Scissors?
Well one Hades was the god of the underworld not a place.
Hades (from Greek ᾍδης, Haidēs, originally Ἅιδης, Haidēs or Ἀΐδης, Aïdēs; of uncertain origin[1], although it has been ascribed to Greek "unseen"[2]) refers to both the ancient Greek Underworld and the God of the Dead. The word originally referred to just the god; ᾍδού, Haidou its genitive, was short for "the house of Hades". Eventually, the nominative, too, came to designate the abode of the dead.
TheSpoonyBard
10-25-2006, 03:56 PM
I was in a war with gods, AVALANCHE vs. Shinra
I was cast down with my brethren. Wedge fell from the plate support pillar
In Hades we were doomed to dwell, Slums = underworld
Exiled by those in heaven. Shinra. Upper plate = heaven
So I guess my answer is AVALANCHE/Wedge/the people living in the slums.
Dragon Mage
10-25-2006, 09:15 PM
All wrong.
But Rantzien, you are on the right track with the Greek thing. I'm using Hades as a place. Keep going.

Is it Titan? The Titans were the gods that ruled Olympus before Zeus. Once he came to power, he threw most of them into Hades.
Firo Volondé
10-26-2006, 09:26 AM
The Weapons?
They were at war with Jenova (sounds like Jehovah, a name for God), then they were cast down doomed dwell under the world, after the Cetra "exiled" them by rendering them unneccessary by defeating Jenova.

The black materia puzzels in the temple? (the ones that Cait Sith had to do and made the temple smaller and smaller)
BG-57
10-30-2006, 03:16 AM
Nope. This puzzle is completely optional.
I have a question and a guess.
Q: Is this puzzle something you can do in the game or is it something you just toss around in your head.
This maybe bad but I'm guessing Cloud or his memories.
BG-57
10-31-2006, 02:38 AM
It's basically a riddle you can solve in the game.
It's not Cloud or his memories.
Rantz
10-31-2006, 10:45 AM
Is it in the cave in Da-Chao where there's a big flame blocking your way, when Cloud says "There's no way we're getting past this flame" or something similar?
It's only half-true because you can get past them, as long as you use the Leviathan Scales to put the flame out. So, when it's burning (in the light of day), the statement is correct, but when it's put out (in deepest night), the statement fails.
BG-57
10-31-2006, 12:03 PM
It's not the flames of Da-Chao.
Think back to biology class in high school.
Rantz
10-31-2006, 05:00 PM
Photosynthesis... ? :p
Nah, just kidding. But I keep thinking of Ancient Forest. That is the only thing I can remember from the game that's strictly a puzzle, but I can't remember any "statements" there. I'll keep thinking.

ancients/aeris.
enduring through the worst-survived destruction of the race
and releasing the pent up fury-I'd be mad if my race was nearly wiped out
coupled with the destruction of hundreds,-the cetra were nearly destroyed
and exploration, from sea to show,-the key of the ancients is in the sea and when used, you see a 'show'
discovering the lost, perhaps hidden memories-only one that can unlock the power of the ancients
to unleash the true potential-holy
Sephiroth
enduring through the worst-He found out he was artificaily made i'd rate that bad.
and releasing the pent up fury-Set fire to Nibleheim
coupled with the destruction of hundreds,-He killed too many people just too many.
and exploration, from sea to show,-The Jenova battle on the ship and the battles at other locations?
discovering the lost, perhaps hidden memories-Remembering his past sort of learning what happened.
to unleash the true potential- to find the promised land

Is it getting Chaos and Death Penalty?
enduring through the worst (Vincent's life)
and releasing the pent up fury (his monsterous limit breaks)
coupled with the destruction of hundreds (mastering Death Penalty requires slaying hundreds of foes)
and exploration, from sea to show (Lucrecia's cave is hard to find)
discovering the lost, perhaps hidden memories (you learn about Vincent's and Sephiroth's past)
to unleash the true potential (self explanatory)

11-03-2006, 09:37 PM
Hmm, the vincent guess was actually kinda close actually, and it's not as metaphorical as I thought.
enduring through the worst (getting attacked enough to fill limit gauge)
and releasing the pent up fury (using a limit break (a bunch of times))
coupled with the destruction of hundreds, (thats how you get to next lim lvl)
and exploration, from sea to show, (find lvl 4 lims)
discovering the lost, perhaps hidden memories (you use it as an item to teach it to them)
to unleash the true potential (then you can use the lvl 4 limit)

11-05-2006, 06:11 PM
the actual answer i was looking for is learning the lv4 limit, but ur close enough so i'll give you it.
enduring through the worst
and releasing the pent up fury --> taking attacks to fill ur limit, and using it to get the 2nd in a lvl
coupled with the destruction of hundreds, --> killing lots of enemies to get the first in the next lvl
and exploration, from sea to show, -->exploring to find the required item, sea being the gelnika for highwind and show being the battle arena
discovering the lost, perhaps hidden memories --> finding items which unlock something, in this sense hidden abilities
to unleash the true potential --> it's a lvl4 limit :D
i guess it's weimer's go then

Let me fly above the earth.
The earth splitting everywhere.
Such a terrible event.

11-07-2006, 12:12 AM
Sounds like Holy/Lifestream/Meteor.
Let me fly above the earth.
Holy needed to be high above the Planet to destroy Meteor.
The earth splitting everywhere.
Such a terrible event.
Total random destruction.
Sephiroth using Meteor to damage the Planet for his own plans.
My Messiah, please heal the earth
Before God starts from scratch.
Sephiroth was planning to absorb the Lifestream's energy used to heal the Planet to become a god.
I fear I shall not be reincarnated now.
And so the universe will only remember the Earth.
After Sephiroth absorbed the energy of the Lifestream, the Planet would most likely die.

It's the level 4 limit breaks:
Let me fly above the earth (Highwind)
The earth splitting everywhere (Omnislash?)
Such a terrible event (Catastrophe)
Total random destruction (Chaos)
My Messiah, please heal the earth (Great Gospel)
Before God starts from scratch (All Creation)
I fear I shall not be reincarnated now (Final Heaven)
And so the universe will only remember the Earth (Cosmo Memory)
Cait Sith doesn't have a level 4 limit break, so there's eight total.

It actually is related to 512. And Poison.
Lost Number
11-18-2006, 04:09 PM
OK, i have a couple of ideas as to the interpratation there. Either it is an enemy who takes 512 hp damage from poison (there are no enemies with 512 HP, MP, or Gil drop), or it is an attack which uses 512 MP...but thats ridiculous, why did I type that?
From the context it is used, it would seem as though "512" is referring to the enemys name.
My guess here is gonna be the enemy you face in the Shinra tower, made by Hojo. I dont have his name, but it is a code of numbers and letters, and he summon 3 lesser enemies to fight alongside. I will look his name up now.EDIT: HO5I2 is his name. I personall always thought it wasnt a number, but a chemical formula, with that being an I, not a 1. Either, thats my answer.

Hmm,
Is it the Holy Materia?
In an early hour - It's first spoken of in the Church
I'll give you priceless power. - You can't buy it, it's supremely powerful.
For I've seen what's to cry for, - OK, this doesn't really match up
and I've seen what's to die for. - Aeris dies praying for it.

Neither Holy Materia nor Carbon Bangle. Hint: It's an inventory item.

Rantz
11-21-2006, 10:20 PM
By inventory item I mean an item that can be found under the "Item" command in the menu. :)
Not Key to the Ancients, not Umbrella.
Dragon Mage
11-22-2006, 01:40 AM
Key to the Basement, in the shinra mansion?
You have to get the combo to the safe in a certain amount of time, you also get the Odin materia (power), Vincent's life is pretty screwed up and he's an emo.
Am I right?
Weimar Pluto Knight VII
11-22-2006, 03:45 AM
No, he said an item from the item menu, not key items, I don't think. I'm trying to think of one that makes sense.
So, is it one of those items that casts a spell when you use it? Darn, I'm not very fluent in those. Um, grenade? You get that early in the game.
Rantz
11-22-2006, 01:28 PM
No and no.
Both ordinary items and key items are found under the "Item" command in the menu, so it can be both.

Phoenix Down???

Rantz
11-23-2006, 01:20 PM
Nope, neither Ghost hand or Phoenix Down. I'll repost the riddle with a new hint soon.
Edit: The new hint is: You don't see the death in question.
The riddle:
In an early hour
I'll give you priceless power.
For I've seen what's to cry for,
and I've seen what's to die for.
Wrong answers:
The big clock in the Temple of the Ancients
Hardedge
Holy Materia
Carbon Bangle
Key of the Ancients
Umbrella
Key to the Basement
Grenade
Ghost Hand
Phoenix Down
Tissue
Digestive
Buster Sword
Vagrisk Claw
Gatling Gun
God's Hand
Grand Glove
Cosmo Memory (item/skill)
Great Gospel (item/skill)
Hints / notes:
The answer is an inventory item.
You don't see the death in question.
The answer is acquired during Disk 1 (This is the meaning of the first line).
The answer is not a "Limit break item".
VitalChance
11-23-2006, 02:46 PM
Tissue

11-23-2006, 03:40 PM
Neither.
Enjolras
11-23-2006, 09:39 PM
Is it the Buster Sword? I suppose you could say it gives you priceless power at the beggining of the game, it's with you when you see some things to cry for, and it was there when Zack was killed. Although there is an optional flashback that shows you the event of his death, you don't really see him die.
BG-57
11-24-2006, 02:20 PM
That may well be it, but I'll guess Vagrisk Claw just to put out another guess.
Firo Volondé
11-24-2006, 02:47 PM
To diverge from Enjolras' point, is it the Gatling Gun? Like the Buster Sword, it is used in the 'early hours' (beginning of game) and is 'priceless' (you cannot sell it), and the whole thing with Barret and Dyne for the last two lines?
Rantz
11-25-2006, 10:37 AM
Nope, it's not referring to quite as early items as Buster Sword or Gatling gun, but it is acquired during the first disk.
Gullick
11-25-2006, 06:00 PM
but it is acquired during the first disk.
is this the meaning behind the first line?

Is it God's Hand? It's a weapon for Tifa that you can steal in the Mythril mine in the first disk.
Weimar Pluto Knight VII
11-26-2006, 06:36 AM
No, you get the God's Hand on Disc 2 right before you try to get the blue sub. It's the Grand Glove you get from the Madouges in the Mythril Mine. I have a feeling that's wrong, though. I'll guess Cosmo Memory.
Firo Volondé
11-26-2006, 09:00 AM
The item used to teach Aerith Great Gospel?
In an early hour - You must obtain it on the first disc, or it's not much use;)
I'll give you priceless power. - Great Gospel
For I've seen what's to cry for, - not sure
and I've seen what's to die for. - Aerith dies?
Rantz
11-26-2006, 03:09 PM
Gullick: Yes, the first line basically means "In the first disk".
It's not God's Hand, Grand Glove, Cosmo Memory (item/skill) or Great Gospel (item/skill).
Also, a minor hint: It's not any of the Limit break learning items.
Enjolras
11-27-2006, 12:32 AM
Is it the Seraph Comb?
In an early hour- It's acquired in disk 1 through the events at Cosmo Canyon
I'll give you priceless power-It's attack power for that stage of the game is quite high, also it cannot be sold
For I've seen what's to cry for- When RedXIII receives it his fathers statue is crying
And I've seen what's to die for- It's with Seto when he is killed by the Gi tribe's poison arrows.
Weimar Pluto Knight VII
11-27-2006, 07:35 AM

Yuffie's lvl4 Limit All Creation?

The intention a long time to glow- the attack sorta glows

is it when sephi kills aerith?
Little can stop the abhorrent flood --> u can't stop sephi's descent

An offence against one linked through blood --> theyre both ancients (or have anceint blood in them)
The intention a long time to glow --> aertih still manages to summon holy as the white materia glows green
Enjolras

You are absolutely right Devils phoenix, the answer is the Bio attack Godo uses on Yuffie.
Little can stop the abhorrent flood-Bio is a floodlike attack, and is certainly abhorrent
Deterioration in tow-It deteriorates your HP bar
An offence against one linked through blood-Godo uses it on Yuffie, his daughter
The intention a long time to glow-Poison make you glow bright green (although this line was mainly just to make it rhyme.).

Weimar Pluto Knight VII
12-07-2006, 11:03 PM
Oh yeah, it would be one of those final battles in the battle arena, but make sure it's only before you get the W Summon and Omnislash. It might be Ochu since the only thing it can't be is Proud Clod since I think that's the only final battle after you do that. It has to be Ochu. It was a boss in FFX in the forest near Kilika Temple.

yup enjolras is correct, it's ochu. technically in ff7 it's called ho-chu but i'll let u hav it.
Master of the forest - he is referred to as the master of the forest in ffx
arm's like german wines - stereotypically, germans pronounce ther "w's" as "v's" wen speaking english, so it'd be pronounced vines
confrontation at final lone battle - ther is a chance it'll appear for the final battle in the batrtle arena . . .
but only for the average - . . . but only for the standard battles.

Indian could also refer to Native Americans, and the people of Cosmo Canyon fit that description; both RedXIII and Bugenhagen wear decorative feathers.

yeh, my next guess was white materia aka holy

nope nope and nope
it is not a key part of the story, in fact u can go through the whole game without picking one up<-- HINT

Is it the Enemy Skill materia you pick up in the Beginners hall in Junon?
Maybe an experiment - You can 'experiment' with the materia
Maybe helping newbies - It's in a beginners hall, which certainly would help newbies
Maybe with the Forgotten - The Junon hall has the forgotten souls of the people who were in the Sector 7 hall
Maybe with the forgetful - This might be something to do Cloud and his Memories?
It's a bit of wild guess, but there you go.

ur being too specific

All of the enemy skill materias.
Maybe an experiment - in hojo's lab
Maybe helping newbies - beginner's hall
Maybe with the Forgotten - forgotten capital
Maybe with the forgetful - chocobo sage's house
After that last guess and hint, it feels like stealing, but I didn't even come up with the answer--it was my sister, and she came up with it without hearing any of the guesses or the last hint. She only heard the riddle and the fact that it was a non-plotline-essential materia (she basically got the answer from line 4).

congrats to ur sister! :D maybe she shud make an account and post a riddle, or use ur account.
or if u really feel like it's stealing, talk to enjolras (PM or here) and decide who gets it.

Yeah, it wouldn't be stealing if she wrote one, since she used only the riddle and the information I mentioned...but she doesn't want to write one. Technically I'd just be taking the floor my sister said I could have. I'll post mine, with the acknowledgement that Enjolras came really, really close.
The ultimate leaves a sword and a gap
Sapphire makes a sacrifice for the mission
Diamond resorts to power, but falls
Emerald and ruby are the last to go
So what ever happened to topaz?
Edit: By the way, I don't need any reasoning, but you are still welcome to provide it, if you wish.

something to do with the weapons?
The ultimate leaves a sword and a gap --> ultima weapon drops ultima weapon after battle and blows up hlaf of cosmo, giving u access to ancient forest
Sapphire makes a sacrifice for the mission --> is killed by shinra during the attack on junon
Diamond resorts to power, but falls --> tries using projectiles to stop the "illness of the planet" but is killed
Emerald and ruby are the last to go --> emerald and ruby weapon are killed by cloud and co, but don't appear until all other weapons hav been defeated
So what ever happened to topaz? --> is this actually part of the riddle?
wot r u actually looking for here? my guess is the death of the WEAPONS
or is the answer u require wot the "topaz" is?
musenji
12-22-2006, 07:29 PM
"The death of the WEAPONs" is not the answer.
Yes, the question is part of the riddle. The answer to the riddle is, quite simply, what happened to topaz--so you have to identify topaz in order to find the answer. No hints for a while though. :-)

It lived! Is that the answer? Did Topaz live since the others died?

i hope ur not thinking that Topaz is jenova!? cos jenova isn't a WEAPON!
if ur thinkin jenova, then "topaz" died by the hands of cloud and co

It must be something that shares some sort of attribute with the Weapons, since the other lines mention the five canonical Weapons.
So help me, if the answer involves the Cheese Weapon or Chocobo Weapon....
musenji
12-24-2006, 05:21 PM
No, the answer is not "topaz lived". Nor is topaz Jenova.
Hint: BG-57, you're somewhat on the right track, thinking about the concept of shared attributes.

Logically, it should be yellow or amber colored, since the weapons are generally named for their color that matches their namesake gemstone most closely. At least with Ruby and Emerald.
I'll go with Fat Chocobo, which makes rare appearances when the Chocobo/Mog materia is in use. :choc2:
musenji
12-24-2006, 07:40 PM
Not the fat chocobo. From  to :choc2: is good, though, right? Keep thinking..

i don't suppose cloud is topaz :D

LOL topaz is not purple it's kind of yellow or an amberish colour

No, it's not the Guard Scorpion. Or Cloud.

Is it the Enemy Skill Materia?

Nope.
Edit: Btw, there's more to the riddle than just letting you know that topaz is "something yellow".

I'm going to give it a little time, now. You and I have been going back and forth, and we're both on right now; I want to give more people a chance.

Yes it is. I would just really dislike it if the answer was based on some heretical rumor. I'd have to send the winged monkeys out after you, man. :monkey:
i thought topaz was purple? . . .
Are you thinking of the amethyst? That has a violet color to it.
i don't suppose cloud is topaz :D
Cloud was going to be my next guess.
Hmm...is it a reference to cowardice instead of literal color? I'm guessing Don Corneo, who takes a little dive courtesy of your friendly neighborhood Turks.

Yeah, everything mentioned in the riddle exists in the game. No tricks.
...Well, one trick. But a different kind of trick. :)
Topaz can actually be a number of colors, but I associated it with yellow-amber.
Edit: Oh heavens, I almost forgot. No, not Corneo's dive.

Is it the sun (a yellow star) blowing up in Sephiroth's Supernova attack?
musenji

No, neither of those..very clever though. The answer isn't that obscure. Here's a hint:
The first four lines are in chronological order.
BG-57
12-26-2006, 12:12 AM
You transposed the first and second events. Sapphire dies before Ultima does:
The ultimate leaves a sword and a gap (second)
Sapphire makes a sacrifice for the mission (first)
Diamond resorts to power, but falls (third)
Emerald and ruby are the last to go (fouth and fifth)
Does topaz refer to the glowing yellow core of Bizarro-Sephiroth, which gets neatly dissected by the party?
musenji
12-26-2006, 01:23 AM
No, it doesn't refer to Bizarro Sephiroth's core.
Trust me, I made no error in the order of events. That's why it was a hint. ;)
