• Bravely Default: Flying Fairy screens land

Square Enix has released screenshots of its upcoming 3DS game Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, showcasing the magnificent art style. Looking at these screens, one cannot help but be reminded of concept art. The direction seems to be a mash up of Odin Sphere and the Tales series, with a quriky Square Enix style thrown in.
Bravely Default: Flying Fairy is expected to see a Japanese release sometime in 2012.

Last week a demo hit the Japanese Nintendo eShop, but there is still no word yet on when a demo - or the game itself - will find its way outside of Japan and onto our shores.

Fans will be happy to see the return of a world map.
With an all-star team behind the wheel, it's easy to see why that seed of excitement is taking root. Takashi Tokita (Parasite Eve and Chrono Trigger) is directing the project, supported by producer Tomoya Asano (remakes of FFIII and FFIV, Grandia Extreme) and lead art directer/character designer Akihiko Yoshida (FFTactics, Vagrant Story). With a combination of influences from popular Square Enix titles, Bravely Default is shaping up to be an impressive title.

Thanks to an interview with Tomoya Asano on Japanese gaming site Inside Games, some small details about Bravely Default have been revealed. The game will be a "standard RPG" with a job and battle system along the same line as Final Fantasy V. Bravely Default will make use of the 3DS's Augmented Reality capabilities. An example of this functionality can be seen here.

It was speculated that Tokita might be the director not announced yet, but they seem really hush-hush regarding the announcement of the staff and Director.

DAMNIT! Why'd I have to be a responsible adult and pay my bills instead of buying a 3DS If they make it for the US I'll want it.

I love the art and overall presentation in this game. Will definitely get it when/if I end up getting a 3DS.

I've heard from a number of places that Tokita has been confirmed as the director, unfortunately I haven't got those sources handy for proof but it is strange of them to keep things so secretive.

I'm starting to get pretty excited for this game. The visuals look great, and now they even have Steins;Gate's writer coming on board. Good stuff.
