• Amano: Likes drawing cute girls, never played Final Fantasy

    There aren't many people as well known in Final Fantasy as Yoshitaka Amano. The legendary artist has created some very iconic pieces, and his art is highly collectible; just ask our very own Amano-enthusiast, espritduo! Not only that, but it is Amano's art featured on the limited edition posters we're giving away!


    Amano has created a wide range of Final Fantasy artwork, including the title cards

    He was recently interviewed by Kotaku and revealed his two favourite characters: Kain and Terra. For him, they were the closest to real actors, come to life through his artwork. They're also two of my personal favourite characters and were given powerful parts to play in their respective games.

    The interview also revealed some other interesting facts, like Amano has never played a Final Fantasy game; his children would always snatch them up before he could.

      Good choices on favorite characters. Though I agree the knowledge he's never played any of them just seems mind boggling...

      Yeah, especially given that he's been with since the first game I believe?

      I've never played FFVI, but I love Terra's character design.

      Did Amano design all main entry characters? (I don't think he did.) And if he didn't, who designed what?

      Terran and Kain? I thought it was Terra and Faris? Ah well, Kain's awesome as hell; probably my second favorite character (after Edge of course). In FFIV, I mean

      Amano's artwork truly comes to life when you're on LSD or similar hallucinogenics. Colors pop, lines start to come alive and his true vision becomes clear. This man's art has so many layers that are impossible to comprehend or even see in a normal state of mind.

      Just checked out some of Amano's "Candy Girl" work. It's actually pretty smurfing adorable.
