An aetheryte camp that now costs no anima to visit

This is a smaller Final Fantasy XIV patch, but it all builds up! A lot of this patch focused on the dangerous creature, Atomos. It appears in the following new areas:

• Dragonhead, Coerthas Central Highlands
• Emerald Moss, North Shroud
• Crimson Bark, West Shroud
• Black Brush, Central Thanalan
• Horizon, Western Thanalan

Additionally, teleporting to certain aetheryte camps (which is where Atomos appears) no longer costs anima. Atomos is said to now behave differently at these locations, but the patch notes are not clear how. You’ll just have to find out! Anyway, the camps are:

• Camp Brittlebark, Mor Dhona
• Camp Revenant's Toll, Mor Dhona
• Camp Ever Lakes, Coerthas Central Lowlands
• Camp Glory, Coerthas Eastern Lowlands
• Camp Bluefog, Northern Thanalan

Some general new stuff has been added, as well, which the patch notes do not specify, such as new monsters and weather conditions have been added (I personally want ...

The dynamic duo of Biggs and Wedge. Everyone has heard of them from the great mind of George Lucas in the original Star Wars film, and the pair has since made small appearances or cameos in the Final Fantasy series. There will be several installments of their great misadventures throughout Final Fantasy. Their first such appearance was in Final Fantasy VI, even though Biggs was originally mistranslated into Vicks.

What were they doing then? Why, they were in the opening scenes of the game, of course! They were assisting the lead character, Terra Branford, in a raid on the town of Narshe as soldiers of the Gestahlian Empire. They were sent there to carry out the investigation of a frozen Esper discovered by local miners. With Terra coming along, it was assumed that the rumors of the Esper was being taken seriously, and who wouldn't want to come unprepared?

However, the Narshe Mines were being well protected by Narshe's guards. Biggs and Wedge, while being led by Terra, fought through the guards with quite ease to reach the new ...

I'm already missing our time together
Like our show back at the Golden Saucer
Told myself that I was not crazy
Resembled Zack in your company
Mako poisioning makes it hard to remember

Your trip to the Lifestream makes me feel sadness
Grinding for Great Gospel now does end, now it does end
So when I mistook you for the slum drunk
In Sector 5 surrounded by junk
But I was impressed by your bed of flowers

But you didn't have to kill her off
Flew right down and stuck the Masamune right through her stomach
And now you're sending out Jenova Life
But she's treating me like a puppet and that ain't right
Now the first disc ends so low
Gamer friends trying to cheat her back and then change the code
I guess she just won't come back though
Now she's the flower girl I used to know

Final Fantasy Versus XIII Delays Inspire Fan Protest

So after years of little info, quick updates about future updates, rumors of being upgraded to being FFXV, and even rumors of the game being canceled, fans have started a petition to get SE to be transparent about the production of FF Versus XIII.

While the success of an online petition is rare, the most recent and notable exception being that of the Dark Souls petition that led to a DLC and PC port, this is another example of fans being upset with SE's curious PR campaign for the missing Versus XIII. Square has only released three videos, a few pictures, and name dropped about two characters and have given the most vague idea of what the game is about and how it plays. The title has been a no show for every major gaming expo and Squenix event since 2010. The game has been in development since 2006 and still has no release window. It entered full production last year.

Further details on the 3DS title have been revelead with a neat little feature that sees you repopulating a ruined city by working with other players. It's not quite a Sim City styled mini-game, but this feature will add another level of value to the Street Pass system, which encourages players to play together.

Still no word on a Western release, and Nintendo sadly confirmed that Bravely Default: Flying Fairy won't be playable at TGS, but another demo is supposedly on its way with the full title set to be released on October 11 in Japan. In the meantime, enjoy this swanky cover art and a trailer.

The Universe as We Know it
Final Fantasy Edition

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if all the Final Fantasies were put into one continuous history? This report is a history of Final Fantasy, transcribed and put together to show what it might look like if FFII was a direct sequel to FFI, with the others following suit, creating one immaculate and detailed universe instead of separate ones. Be warned, this topic will spoil every Final Fantasy game for you. Forever!

Part One, the planet of Spira
Our story starts in the settings of Final Fantasy I. Final Fantasy I has to be the beginning of the Final Fantasy Universe. For obvious reasons - it was the first game, after all - but also for plot reasons. You see, Final Fantasy I takes place in a timeloop - with Chaos sending the Four Fiends into the future to send Garland into the past who would eventually become Chaos. It is up to the Four Warriors of Light to stop this continual loop by defeating Chaos. The implications of this is that ...

Just when we thought all hope was lost for the Mana series, Square-Enix surprises everyone and trademarks "Circle of Mana." It seemed like after the debacle that was the World of Mana project (Children of Mana, Dawn of Mana, Heroes of Mana), after which series creator Koichi Iishi left Square-Enix to found his own game design studio Grezzo. It seemed like that was the final nail in the coffin for Mana. Yet here Square-Enix is: trademarking a new title for the series.

Just what exactly could this trademarked title refer to? At this time, nothing is known. However it seems likely that this could be one of three things. Firstly: finally an English localization of Seiken Densetsu 3. The beloved title has never officially seen the light of day outside of Japan and with Secret of Mana seeing release on the Nintendo Wii's Virtual Console and then a graphically-updated version for the iPhone and Android, it would make financial sense to finally give the people what they want and bring that hidden gem out of Japan. It would make more sense ...

Yoshi P and the gang did a live steam information session dubbed the Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary: FINAL FANTASY XIV Special Talk Session, giving players a chance to learn a little more about the upcoming Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The hour-long clip is on Youtube already - and will be shown at the bottom of the article - but for the time poor, some of the major points will be summarised here for you!

Lead Battle Designer Akihiko Matsui wanted to remind everyone that A Realm Reborn was being rebuilt from the ground up - including the battle system. "It's completely different from the current system," he said. The changes in battle will mostly relate to TP and timers, however. In the current version of FFXIV, TP builds up by hitting things with the standard attack. But in A Realm Reborn, TP will function more like MP - characters will have a full bar at the start of a fight with it being depleted as the battle wears on. Abilities will still have similar timers to the current system, but spells (which use MP) and weaponskills (which use TP) will have ...

Final Fantasy Fan Art Showcase of the Week #1

Hello everyone! Agent Proto here, and I'm here to bring a new feature to Eyes on Final Fantasy. Having been a member of this site, I am pretty disappointed in seeing a severe lack of fan created works of art on this site in the more recent years, so I have decided to take it upon myself to find and display several great pieces of fan art for everyone to enjoy. As so, I do hope that you take the time to check out each artwork in this showcase and do feel free to send a comment to the artists at the linked source. I'm sure they will appreciate what you have to say about their work.

Since this would be the first of hopefully many more, I will provide a small batch of five fanart made within this last week. Such a small amount of art, but this is just the start of a wonderful thing, which I hope that you will enjoy. I may provide my own commentary or description of each, but who knows? Commence the artwork!

The line up for Square Enix's Tokyo Game Show booth has been revealed. Being on home soil, TGS is a great chance for Square Enix to showcase all of its big and exciting projects. It's a quality line up, but there's quite a few games listed as Japan-only; hopefully these games make it out of there one day soon!

A blog on SE Europe's official site lists the announced exhibits, with Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and Dragon Quest X among the most notable. FFXIV: A Realm Reborn in particular looks very promising, with recent showings at PAX demonstrating cool new features like Limit Breaks. They're even scouting for Alpha Testers!

Square Enix's other brand-spanking-new MMORPG, Dragon Quest X, which was released recently for Wii has also been confirmed for Wii U. There will no doubt be quite a bit of new information on this one at TGS, but DQX is ...

Do you currently play Final Fantasy XIV? Would you like the current version to stay live even after the worlds shut down in November in preparation for A Realm Reborn? Well you can have a say!

In a previous update, Yoshida told fans that the current version of the game might stay up for free if enough players wanted it to. Now Square-Enix has put up the fourth edition of its FFXIV Player’s Poll to ask you about that very issue.

The poll will close at 7:59 AM PDT on September 18, 2012. Really, I think everyone should vote to keep it open. It certainly doesn’t harm anything, and it allows people who currently enjoy the existing game to keep playing it with their comrades-in-arms. But be warned, in order to take advantage of playing 1.x for free (if it does happen), you need to be an active subscriber as of September 30, 2012. ...
