    Dance Dance Revolution
The dancers in Final Fantasy have moves much better than that sweaty kid down at your local arcade. They do share one thing in common though; when they dance, lights flash, things beep and magic happens. The dancers of Final Fantasy started out in Cornelia, with that one dancing girl who knows an unreasonable amount of information on where your quest is taking you. The only type of dancers I can think of who would be privy to that much information are… Nevermind, let’s look at our performers!

    The Warriors of Light
    (V)
The Warriors of Light return for our first glimpse of the dancer as a playable class in Final Fantasy. Their special ability, Dance, picks one of four random dances, each with varying effects ranging from confusing enemies to dealing four times normal physical damage. By equipping certain items, the player can raise the chance of using the Sword Dance, which damages the enemy for four times normal damage, making the dancer a powerhouse. By equipping the Dancer’s Dagger with a non-dancer character, that character’s attack move will instead change to Dance, meaning you can reduce the weaknesses of the class whilst retaining the benefits.
Moogles and dancing go hand in hand, but none do it with as much style as Mog.

    Mog
    (VI)
Mog the moogle from Final Fantasy VI is a combination of a dancer and a geomancer. His eight dances are all elemental based, and once started, Mog will dance continually until the battle is over, performing one of four different attacks dependant on the dance. Mog’s role in Final Fantasy VI is minor, being an optional character except for his one appearance early on, along with the other moogles. His love of dance is evident in his SNES introduction: “Human-loving, fast-talking, street-smart, SLAM-dancing... ...

Versus XIII Update: Square Enix Couldn't Possibly Be More Vague - PS3 News

So it appears that Squenix has reached a new level of bureaucracy concerning Versus XIII. Now we're getting updates on when we can expect more updates. Nomura's comment about getting this info soon, can either mean an E3 reveal, or more likely a Tokyo Game Show (TGS) reveal, or even possibly a future undisclosed Square Enix event, which is also not far fetched as the series turns 25 this year. ...

Final Fantasy III has been available on iPhone for quite a while now, but now it looks like the updated title is finally coming to Android! Well, in Japan.

Originally played out by 8-bit sprites on the NES, the updated version features a lot more cuteness. Check out the launch trailer from the iPhone version!

Not a word has been uttered about when or even if an English version of the title will be released.

    Still, one can hope.

SquareEnix may have given us something pretty to look at with Serah's "beachwear" outfit, but sometimes you just need to see a girl with a nice pair of big, round eyeglasses. That's right, on March 13th you'll be able to add Jihl Nabaat to your party for just the price of three tacos! Or six tacos, depending on where you get your tacos.

You can also get new weapons for 99 cents each: a Catastrophe Blade and Muramasa for Noel, along with a Seraphic Wing and Genji Bow for Serah. You can see pictures of those here.

Now when we asked our members what DLC they most wanted to see, just about everyone cried out for more story! Apparently those who want Serah in a Pikachu suit are in the minority, but that's fine, because SquareEnix has announced that they'll be releasing the "Lightning's Story: Requiem of the Goddess" DLC in mid-May. Little is known about the content other than what we can deduce from the title, nor has a price been announced, but there it is--more story. And more Lightning, ...

Song and dance are powerful tools. They can be used to express oneself, used to protest, used as a social activity and used as a career. And, where Final Fantasy is concerned, can be very versatile and valuable weapons. Today we look at the power of song and dance, tools used by Bards and Dancers to combat foes, enhance their allies’ strength and ultimately have a cracking good time while doing so. Let’s take a look at these underrated classes, and some of the characters who embody the power and passion of a performance. Let’s start with the humble bard, shall we?

Sing Me A Song, Piano Man
Bards are probably best known as the folk who sing tales of heroes and dragons and all sorts of fantastic legends. That’s true enough, but the bards of Final Fantasy do more than just tell tales; they live them. We have a broad line-up, so let’s jump straight into it! The Onion Kids show off their bard outfits. Classy, ain't they?

    The Onion Kids (III)
The original bards, the Onion Kids of Final Fantasy III receive the bard job from the Water Crystal. In the NES version of the game, the bard class is used purely to provide buffs to the party. However, in the DS remake, the bards can also damage enemies by using their Sing command, which changes depending on the harp equipped. In addition to harps, bards can also equip knives, though this limits the effectiveness of their Sing command.
Prince Edward of Damcyan. Monarch, Musician and, uhh, Lover.
    Edward Chris von Muir (IV)
While the origins of the bard class lie with the Onion Kids of Final Fantasy III, this is perhaps the first sight that western audiences received of the bard class. Edward, also known as Gilbert and Gilbart in some lands, is the crown prince of Damcyan. As such, he ...

Square Enix has announced another batch of additional songs for Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, including the battle theme from the still Japan-only Final Fantasy Type 0. This is the first non-main series track to make it into the game, opening up the potential for numerous underrated soundtracks to make it in further DLCs.

It seems like a good time to live in the land of the rising sun, with numerous Square Enix goodies hitting their shores before anywhere else. For Theatrhythm in particular, Square Enix plans to have extra DLC tracks available every two or three weeks until - presumably - they run out of music.

Everybody's favourite purple octopus Ultros in a battle with some familiar heroes.

The four DLC tracks span the entire series, including both the original Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy XIII, giving fans plenty of variety. Few are bound to disappoint; the Final Fantasy series has maintained a high level of quality in the soundtracks.

Square Enix has released screenshots of its upcoming 3DS game Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, showcasing the magnificent art style. Looking at these screens, one cannot help but be reminded of concept art. The direction seems to be a mash up of Odin Sphere and the Tales series, with a quriky Square Enix style thrown in.
Bravely Default: Flying Fairy is expected to see a Japanese release sometime in 2012.

Last week a demo hit the Japanese Nintendo eShop, but there is still no word yet on when a demo - or the game itself - will find its way outside of Japan and onto our shores.

Fans will be happy to see the return of a world map.
With an all-star team behind the wheel, it's easy to see why that seed of excitement is taking root. Takashi Tokita (Parasite Eve and Chrono Trigger) is directing the project, supported by producer Tomoya Asano (remakes of FFIII and FFIV, Grandia Extreme) and lead art directer/character designer Akihiko Yoshida (FFTactics, Vagrant Story). With a combination of influences from popular Square Enix titles, Bravely Default is shaping up to be an impressive title.

Thanks to an interview with Tomoya Asano on Japanese gaming site Inside Games, some small details about Bravely Default have been revealed. ...

He just can't resist a cameo appearance, can he? Everyone's favourite multiple armed madman is back, with Gilgamesh set to appear in yet more Final Fantasy XIII-2 DLC. He is due to appear in the Colosseum as a fightable opponent, and apparently can even join Serah and Noel in the party once defeated if a crystal is obtained.

No word as yet as to whether that song will be featured in the DLC, but just to get you in the mood:

There are also rumours that someone from FFVI is going to be added as a fightable villain too. Ultros would definitely be my preference - can you imagine a tag team of him and Gilgamesh? Kefka is another name being thrown about but I just can't see it myself. I wouldn't say no to Chupon showing up and sneezing me away again though. Fungah! ...

    It was great!

They started off with FF7 prelude and bombing mission before saying anything. Great intro, got you really pumped. This was followed by a 1-3 medley and at some point, Man with the Machine Gun (which should just not be played by an orchestra but I'll say no more on that).

An absolutely brilliant arrangement of Eyes on Me sung by Susan Calloway (who will be doing voice acting in FF14 if I heard correctly) was joined by a really nice selection of clips from FF8. She also sang Suteki de Na, which was great, and it was actually my first time hearing the song as I've never played X. She also sang Kiss me Goodbye from FFXII, and I felt her voice was more fitting to the song than whoever sang the original on the game ending.

Arnie Roth's arrangement of Clash on the Big Bridge and FFXIII's Blinded by Light (the only non-Uematsu piece, I think) were full of energy too. I hope Arnie's proud of his arrangement of Clash because it's grandiose and I enjoyed it.

After posting the Last Story discussion thread on the forum, I was asked if I'd be interested in writing a little review on my experience of the game so far. This is that review. I haven't done much in the way of game reviews before, so I apologise if it seems a bit rushed or lacking or if I ramble a bit in some parts of the review.

    ---------------

The Last Story is the latest Wii RPG offering created by the legendary Hironobu Sakaguchi's development company, Mistwalker. Accompanied by music from the equally legendary Nobuo Uematsu, this is a game that should excite you, especially if you're a fan of the Final Fantasy franchise.

First off I should mention that if you have a HDTV or a TV that supports the use of component cables, you should seriously consider buying a decent quality (preferably official) component cable for your console. The game only supports 60 Hz (480i) and EDTV/HDTV (480p) modes, and 480i mode makes the graphics look fuzzy and terrible, at least on my TV screen. I was thinking of getting some component cables before this game came out, but as a result of playing ...

Square Enix continues its anniversary fest with a celebratory event planned for the tenth birthday of Final Fantasy XI. The event, dubbed Vanafest 2012 by this teaser website Square Enix launched, will be held over June 23 and June 24.

As the map shows, the event will likely be held somewhere around Tokyo, though an exact location has not yet been revealed. Sadly that leaves most of us out of the loop.

In other news, the Square Enix tactical MMORPG Wakfu has closed its open beta testing phase and scheduled a release date - February 29.

Wakfu, developed by Ankama Games, will be free to play, but an optional $6/month subscription can be paid to unlock premium content.

As a teaser, Square Enix released a trailer showing off the "Eniripsa" class, just one of fourteen different classes to choose from. The video can be viewed below.

Square Enix has just released Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions for the iPad system, giving the world another opportunity to buy this fantastic game.

Picking up a copy of Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions for the iPad will set you back $18.00/£11.50/€13.50, a small price to pay for those of you who don't have a PSP.

Final Fantasy Tactics was originally released on the PSX in NTSC regions, which means many of us may have missed out on a chance to play. With the release of The War of the Lions port on PSP in 2007, fans of Final Fantasy in PAL regions were finally been able to enjoy this masterpiece. Now, the iPad version gives gamers even more options when it comes to purchasing this classic.

Final Fantasy Tactics was also Square's first foray into the world of Ivalice, a location which is now the setting for a multitude of games - including Final Fantasy XII and Vagrant Story - in what is known as the "Ivalice Alliance".

Just last week we reported on what Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of the Final Fantasy series, has been up to. He's got his own studio now, Mistwalker, and they've produced a handful of games that people seem to enjoy quite a bit.

The company recently had its first Wii release, The Last Story, and it's been getting rave reviews in Japan! The game is set to release in Europe and Australia this week, leaving North American gamers all kinds of envious and sulky. Until today! California-based company XSEED Games has announced that they will be bringing the game to North America sometime this summer!

In addition to creating the Final Fantasy series, Hironobu Sakaguchi worked on such favorites as Chrono Trigger and Vagrant Story, and also every Final Fantasy game until X, at which point he broke out on his own and created the Mistwalker corporation. Everyone's favorite JRPG composer, Nobuo Uematsu, also composed the music for The Last Story.

At this point it's pretty likely that it doesn't even matter what the game's about, but here's the synopsis provided by XSEED ...

In celebration of the Final Fantasy series' 25th anniversary, Square Enix has planned to release a range of products for fans. First looks show a wide range of coffee tumblers with a few different designs, as well as a pack of cards featuring characters from the thirteen main entries in the series!

The official logo of Square Enix's 25th Anniversary celebrations. Upcoming games will feature this logo, including Theatrhythm Final Fantasy.

The original Final Fantasy was supposed to be the swan song of Square Soft Inc., but instead catapulted the company to the top of the JRPG industry. Now, 25 years later, Square Enix are continuing to innovate and challenge the conventions of the industry.

Final Fantasy was released in Japan on December 18, 1987, and has since gone through multiple ports and rereleases. It is obvious from the longevity of the series that Final Fantasy fans are highly devoted to the games, and are always eager for a chance to show off their support; whether through merchandise or just debating which game is the best!

Release for these products is scheduled for Spring of 2012 (that's northern hemisphere seasons), with an expected retail price for the deck of cards of ¥1,200, which is around $15.00/£9.50/€11.00. Coffee tumblers are set at ¥1,900 or $24.00/£15.00/€18.00.

While Square Enix is starting the 25th Anniversary celebrations, some fans are already showing support in their own way. Youtube user PixelEdged has created a tribute to the single player entries in a two part video series.

You can watch the first part below. Coffee tumblers and playing cards can also be seen below.
