Final Fantasy VII: The Series is one of the most ambitious fan projects to date. Some Tomb Raider fans are going to be sorely disappointed to find out that Lara Croft won't be breaking her way onto the Wii U this year.

The Creative Director of Crystal Dynamics; Noah Hughes, has revealed why the game won't be available on Nintendo's latest console: "I’m always a fan of the Nintendo systems, in particular they really push interface design, and from a game design perspective it’s fun to play with new interfaces. Having said that it’s something that I think we would want to tailor the experience to if we were going to do it."

With the game taking such a different and drastic direction from the previous titles, it comes as no surprise that Crystal Dynamics want to keep the experience as true as possible - which is why they are not developing it for the Wii U. Hughes went on to add: "Something like the Wii U often asks you to do something unique based on a unique interface. That’s something as a gamer I love but it’s something you don’t want to do half-heartedly as a developer"

Ultima from Final Fantasy XII never looked so good, so serene or so "DAMNIT TAKE ALL MY MONEY!"

At first glance this statue is something of such splendour that you'd think it was the latest piece of expensive official merchandise to hit the Square Enix store right? Riiiight? WRONG!

This statue is a garage kit (essentially home made) so the amazing level of detail is one of a kind that money can't buy.

I can only hope that one day such a figure of awesomeness will be gracing my future mantlepiece!

A report on Square Portal released on 26th January reveals several new details about the soundtrack for the highly anticipated game.

Masashi Hamauzu will be composing a new theme for Lightning. Hamauzu will also be composing a theme for one of the four worlds in Nova Chrysalia. Other composers who have been named are Mitsuto Suzuki and Naoshi Mizuta. There is a fourth composer who is yet to be named in reports - one wonders if Nobuo Uematsu could make a shocking return to Final Fantasy?

The music heard in the game will also depend on the time of day; "Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns" uses a day and night system - afterall the game is relying heavily on the concept of time. It is a brand new feature for a Final Fantasy game and perhaps it will be something Square Enix continues to use in future titles.

Hello again! Unfortunately this edition was slightly delayed due to a few last minute hitches - but have no fear! We made it for a very special edition indeed.

Eyes on Final Fantasy had the opportunity to be invited to a Square Enix event regarding Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. In the first entry of our visit we detailed the demo and the trailer we saw. Not only that but we had the impressions from a skeptic reported on as well. In this entry, we'll be discussing the presentation as well as the exclusive Q&A with Lightning Returns Producer Yoshinori Kitase and Director Motomu Toriyama.

After showing us the trailer we were greeted with a presentation by Kitase on how they feel about Lightning Returns. A vivid world with rich history full of drama and intrigue, the Nova Crystallis series was made to be a bit different than other Final Fantasy games. Being painted as a strong and powerful female, Lightning is key to every entry. They wanted to showcase this in the newest title, which was part of the reason she was chosen as the only playable character.

Many people are curious with how Lightning Returns works with the creative vision from the players themselves. The vision of how they personally felt the series should go. Player feedback was extremely prevalent in the first two entries, and ...

The inaugural Final Fantasy Fan Fiction competition is underway! Starting from today, you have until the 1st of March to compose a marvellous piece of fan fiction that will rival even the most famous novellas.

Each Fan Fiction contest has a theme of course, and the very first one has a lovely theme to get your mind flowing! The theme for this is:

Yes. Cupcakes. Remember as long as it sticks to the theme, you can be as varied and wild as you like! For obvious reasons, make it clean. Though I'm not sure what you could do with cupcakes that would make it dirty. Let's move on quick!

The entries will be judged by an independent adjudicator who shall pour over the Fan Fictions with esteemed knowledge. There's also a word count: between 600-1000 words.

But wait? There's a prize? Yes, there is! The prize will be a Mystery Final Fantasy Plushie!

Gaming website Steam is offering a massive price slash on a number of Square-Enix titles this weekend.

The entire PlayStation 1 Tomb Raider collection can be bought for £9.99 instead of £39.99 - that's a massive 75% cut. Games from the Deus Ex and Hitman series are available from as little as £0.99. Even Sleeping Dogs, a fairly recent title has been cut in price by 50%

With all these titles so cheap, it would be completely silly to not take complete advantage! Even the new Tomb Raider has been cut by 10% for pre-order.

Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be any of Square-Enix's Final Fantasy titles available in the sale. But then again, there's enough bargains up for grabs which more than make up for it. What will you be buying?

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn producer Naoki Yoshida released his 41st Letter from the Producer today to talk about the upcoming beta release. Take a look at the above logo image and you’ll notice the all-new “beta version” tag, as Yoshi-P posted a screenshot of the login screen.

According to the original roadmap released in December, the beta is set to begin in mid-February. Yoshi-P did not clarify that date in the Letter or mention anything about being on or behind schedule, and only said that phase 1 of the beta will begin “in February.” ...
