Happy Thursday, folks! I don't know how it's feeling where you are, but let me tell you that in England it's colder than the Macalania Woods! I think I'm going to have to do a Cloud and start jogging on the spot every 20 seconds to stop freezing to death... and on reflection, what a bizarre gameplay mechanic that was. Anyway, let's find out what's happened this week at EoFF!

New details regarding Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII have emerged from the latest edition of VJump.

The big story is an all new character going by the name of Lumina. Her appearance is quite similar to a gothic lolita Serah. The character shows up from time to time and the article describes her as both a helper and a hinderance to Lightning and that she seems more than happy to toy with Lightning as a result. Not much more is known about her at this point in time though.

The magazine also went on to provide some details about the "Wear" system which involves the costumes Lightning can equip. Lightning can have up to three of these costumes equipped at once and change them in real time during the course of the Battle. Each costume has it's own ATB bar that continues to charge during the course of the battle so it seems like a very effective way of condensing XIII's staple Paradigm Shift system into a single character gameflow.

If you noticed a couple of outfits in the Jump Festa trailer than you may be wondering what ...

The new Final Fantasy game is indeed Final Fantasy All the Bravest, for iOS devices, a spinoff combat-only title. It hit the New Zealand iTunes store a couple hours ago. Square Enix had said to expect an announcement on this tomorrow. Well, it's already tomorrow in New Zealand.

All the Bravest uses the Active Time Battle system popularized by older Final Fantasy games. "Every character possesses an ATB gauge that displays the time remaining until that character can execute an action," the description says. "When the gauge is full, simply tap or drag your finger over the character to attack. Touch multiple characters in quick succession to experience exhilarating and fast-paced battle." ...

Voice acting has been an aspect of video games for a long time. It wasn’t always technically possible, and it certainly wasn’t always implemented well, but the advent of voice acting was supposed to herald a turning point for storytelling in video games. Voice actors were tasked with bringing characters to life, furthering immersion and creating tales to rival other media. But, for the humble RPG, it might just have had the opposite effect.

The RPG is characterised as having a strong focus on storytelling and creating an immersive world. Perhaps two of the most acclaimed RPGs ever made were Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy X, these games excelled at both storytelling and world building. Final Fantasy VII a Squaresoft Playstation and PC masterpiece – is a game predating the widespread use of voice acting, but whose characters have later been given a voice. In 2001, Final Fantasy X arrived and re-established what a mainstream RPG should be, and was the first completely voiced game in the series. We can compare these games in a case study for why voice acting has actually dulled the RPG genre and undermined its constructivist appeal.

One aspect of RPGs that ...

Yup that's right, another teaser site. Square Enix loves their teasers! So what are they teasing this time? Well we're not sure. From their RSS feed that was sent out to well anyone who has them RSS'd they had the headline of " – ( ・ω・)=つ≡つ 2013.1.17 ⊂≡⊂=(・ω・ )."

Now they've said before that they were going to put Final Fantasy V on iOS,so it's likely to be that but, thanks to Siliconera, they've figured out what sprites are what! ...

Earlier today, When asked by a fan on twitter if there would be any news about the Final Fantasy X HD remake for the PS3 and Vita, Square Enix's Europe Division (posted by Hachima Kiko) replied with a “The world will get answers soon, we promise.”

Now a soon isn't much but it's more than what has been heard in a long while. While it's not a full remake, more of a remastering, FFX is one of the fan favorites that many are more than eager to hear any news about. Many were introduced into the series due to FFX on the PS2, much like how FFVII was the introduction for fans during the PSone era. Some even say that because of FFX, the ps2 was able to put it's foothold in for jrpgs.

The remastering was mentioned back in 2011 and hasn't been heard from since. When the fan asked he specifically asked about FFX being available on the vita and if it was ever going to come out. He must have been over joyed seeing as his reply to SE was accompanied with an emoticon. Here at Eyeson staff, I too am full of ...

If you thought that Square Enix's Luminous Engine would revolutionize every gaming studio's work, like unreal did, then you're mistaken. US CEO, Mike Fischer told Shack News, "This is an in-house tool. We're not building this around a licensing model." That's right, the beautiful Tech Demo we all saw, Agni's Philosophy, will be exclusive to Square Enix.

Seeing as how SE has recently been branching out with all types of different franchises, such as the recent Hitman: Absolution and the soon to be released Tomb Raider, we will see this engine at work on other titles as well. More and more companies are being merged with Square Enix so it could be a possibility to use this to entice others. Fischer went on to say, "It's my hope that this makes teams and creative people around the world excited to work for us because they'll get their hands on some of the best technology in the industry."

Rumored to be on the Xbox 720 and the PS4, which may be coming out this year, the Luminous engine could make everything drip ...

"Hey! Call me a TREASURE HUNTER, or I'll rip your lungs out!" -Locke Cole, Final Fantasy VI

Hide your materia, folks! The thieves are on the loose! That's right. Today we're going to look at the thieves of the Final Fantasy series! These quick and nimble characters can take money and items from you if you don't hurry. But don't worry, because the thieves who are on your team can steal their fair share of gil and rare weapons themselves! They have a nifty ability called "steal" which is sure to increase your inventory in no time. To add insult to injury you can "mug" your opponents by stealing from them and attacking them at the same time! Want to end a battle in a hurry? That's no sweat either, because their great "flee" ability will ensure a safe exit. It might not be safe to have your back to the enemy, so make sure you're "alert" so that doesn't happen! Don't get me wrong, though. This is not to say the thief doesn't have any faults. While they do have great agility, accuracy, and evasion, they have a lack of defense and magic stats. Not to mention that they tend to only wear lightweight armor and carry ...

"A legendary GF that sleeps in a dungeon. Zantetsuken cuts anything that stands in its way.”

In the Centra Ruins, Squall and his team must battle against the clock to obtain the legend that is Odin, an untameable force of power. Upon finding him, he will speak to Squall; "The weak shall perish. The strong shall triumph." Then, the battle will ensue to earn his sword in future battles.

Taken from Norse Mythology, the Final Fantasy inspiration for Odin is almost identical to his Godly self! In the Mythology, Odin is said to be the King of the Gods, and the grand ruler of Asgard. In artist depictions of him, he rides an eight legged horse named Sleipnir, and wields a spear which never misses its target, Gugnir.

Perhaps what sets Odin apart from the other summons is his stark resemblance to his mythological counterpart. He is a summon which is taken almost directly from actual mythology and is placed in the setting of the game.

Like the other recurring summons, Odin provides a familiarity to Final Fantasy, and he’s a firm favourite with fans of the ...
