You're right that we need a bad guy, but that doesn't mean I hope that bad things happen to good characters who have had enough crap thrown at them for now.

I think we have a good supply of bad guys, actually.

- White Walkers
- Littlefinger
- Euron
- Cersei & Co.
- Sand Snakes (hard to say if you think they're good or bad tbh)
- The Inevitable Further Baddies in Essos That Seem To Never, Ever End (Here's Hoping Though)

If it's true regarding how many episodes there are left, I for one will be happy enough to see the end of Littlefinger soon enough, Euron whenever, and then Cersei & Co. + White Walkers to push us through the last few episodes, with perhaps some other interference by the likes of the stone men, the red priestesses or something.

What I like about Game of Thrones though is that a lot of the time, the supposed 'bad guys' are just people trying to make the best of their situation, and often they see themselves as good.

Curious, now that I think of it, what the Iron Bank will do regarding the debt that Stannis is now unlikely to be able to pay. Likewise the debt that, so far as I know, King's Landing still have yet to pay them. Surely that will come into play, especially if the Iron Bank is no longer going to be funding a fight against Dany (if they ever were), let alone funding Stannis. They'll be wanting to get some money back sooner rather than later, I'd imagine.

Book Euron is really beginning to seem like endgame big-bad potential (alongside others such as the White Walkers, of course). That preview chapter, ouff.

I just hope that TV Euron lives up to the name, but this iteration of him really doesn't strike me as a threat. He seems too fool-hardy and macho, whereas book Euron is like a cross between Jack Sparrow and Hannibal Lecter.

Ayen
06-23-2016, 06:08 PM
Yeah, so far I heard book Euron is better than TV Euron because of how mysterious book Euron is, and I didn't get that vibe from him outside of his first appearance in the show. Sounds disappointing. Maybe they'll flesh him out next season.

Del Murder

He's been in like 3 scenes total so we don't know much about him yet. We didn't get the full picture of Joffrey and Ramsay until later in their storylines. I do agree that with Ramsay gone the show lacks a Big Bad (other than the White Walkers but they don't really interact with the characters) so I hope Euron steps it up like you guys say. What we do know is already pretty hardcore: he's killed his own brother to take his throne and plotted the murder of his niece and nephew.

Slothy
06-23-2016, 07:03 PM
I wouldn't even call his plan to murder them a plot. He just becomes King and invites his men to come murder them. It's more of a dinner party invite.

I want Arya to pop back in at westeros somehow on the finale.

Walder Frey is seen in the season finale trailer having a feast with Jaime and quoting a line from the Red Wedding. There are theories/hopes that Arya is going to pop up in this scene and kill Walder Frey. If not her, then Jaime may double cross them. SOMETHING'S GOING DOWN!

Del Murder
06-23-2016, 07:54 PM
I think Cersei smurfing stuff up is pretty much guaranteed. Not sure we will see Arya make it all the way back to Westeros in one episode but I'd be happy if that was the case. Bran will almost certainly be at the Wall in the finale but I don't think they would hurriedly show the Wall coming down. Too much other stuff to wrap up to give that scene justice. More likely he will cross it and then the Night King will get a glimmer in his eye and say 'it's time' or something like that.

I'd be very satisfied if the end of the season shows Daenerys and the Greyjoys sailing away. Trout will then be getting real.

Not sure we will see Arya make it all the way back to Westeros in one episode but I'd be happy if that was the case. Nowhere near as bad as Littlefinger seemingly hopping between Winterfell and the Vale at will, Daario's round trip between Meereen and Vaes Dothrak or the completely insane logic of the Greyjoys travelling halfway across the known world in three episodes. Braavos to Westeros is quite quick in comparison!

Littlefinger could in theory avoid having to go through the Frey stronghold of The Twins to reach Mole Town by using a boat to sail to Eastwatch-by-the-sea and then make the short trip to Mole Town.

Still pretty difficult to imagine, but not as hard as a land trip.

Or he just snuck through while the Frey's were busy being useless at retaking river run.

Formalhaut
06-23-2016, 09:30 PM
Now THAT is a good point. He could have his personal meeting with Sansa fine, as it only required himself.

Transporting mounted knights by sea would be almost impossible, unless the Val happened to have ships large enough to move horses and men. Failing that, a land approach would be hard due to The Twins. Maybe he sneaked past?

Why do I want a Littlefinger/Sansa wedding? For one thing--holy shit their chemistry. And I'm pretty sure I've told EoFF about my sex dream about Littlefinger and I was Sansa. Well, if I haven't, now you know.

I really don't see him as all that evil, at least where she's involved. Yeah, he married her to Ramsey, but I really REALLY don't think he realized how depraved and sadistic Ramsey was. Except for Cat, the only person Littlefinger has shown an ounce of care and compassion for is Sansa. I truly think he's in love with her and was trying to help her (in a roundabout way) regain Winterfell. Fuck, if he didn't care, it wouldn't have brought the Vale's army.

So yes, I've been on board that train since like season 2, and there's no getting off of it, I'm afraid.

I don't see him as caring for Sansa, personally, I just see him looking at her with greed for not just "Cat's daughter omg" but also for how he can use her. Honestly, I don't think Sansa would, in her right mind, ever truly forgive him for what he did to her.

But yeah, I know what you mean with "There's not getting off this train" kinda stuff. Guilty of that in a lot of things.

edit: so the latest rumour is that its a tradition for the leaders of 'The Red Wedding' to be killed by their sons.
Tywin got killed by Tyrion.. Roose by Ramsay..
so now its Walder Frey's turn.. but there will be a twist to it its Arya Stark with a face from the Hall pretending to be one of Frey's sons. and since Walder has -alot- of sons its plausable.. I dont think he even knows all his sons.
tho it would be very unlikely to happen in this season because then Arya would need Littlefingers magical transporter

Also, really all but the wall? So I feel confident that next season i'm going to get some grand thing with the wall. Blimey, what a ridiculously good episode. The opening scene was absolutely sublime. Can't believe Margaery got offed, I was so sure she'd make it out. Villain vacuum didn't last long at all, did it! Cersei ascendant, doing exactly what Jaime sacrificed his honour to prevent.

Arya is a straight up sociopath. Walder Frey and his horrible ilk fully deserved to get wrecked, but you can't help but wonder what Ned or Jon would say about carving them into a pie and making him eat them. That's some Ramsay level trout right there.

My favourite scene of the episode? Sam at the Citadel :3: I don't even care. That was adorable.

The nice thing about this season is that every outstanding plot line with the possible exception of Gendry (if you still call it open, the fans obviously do) was closed off. Rickon and Osha? Done. Tullys? Done. Freys? Done. BWB and The Hound? They're back, baby.

Just go home, Baelish. You're done here.Did you see that look he and Sansa exchanged when Jon (instead of her) was named King in the North? It's clearly not over. Season 7 prediction - Jon and Sansa tension will build when they disagree on a few things, Sansa turns to LF.

I didn't start watching until this season, but from the books he acted as a witness against Tyrion, was responsible for betraying Tyrion to Cersei prior to that (when determining who he could trust), and just acted as Cersei's little puppet. That would lead to questions about who sired Jon. Remember, her being kidnapped is what sparked Robert's Rebellion in the first place. Robert was going to kill any and all heirs of Targaryen he could find and it was feared that Jon would be killed as well (assuming that the R+L= J is true).

Poor Bran, only used to flesh out Jon's and the Night King's backstories. Hopefully he has a bigger role to play. He is the rightful heir to Winterfell, after all.

The Hound's story didn't really have a conclusion. Was it just to show he's alive and the BWB are still around?

I wonder if Brienne and Pod are still rowing. Maybe they will meet up with Gendry. They had that great scene where they saved Sansa but otherwise didn't have a whole lot of use this year.

Ned didn't tell Cat because he promised his sister he would keep Jon's parentage a secret.

She whispers to him not to tell their father (I think, it could be don't tell Robert who the father is) because he'll kill Jon.

If Lyanna was kidnapped, Jon would be killed out of vengeance. If Lyanna was in love with Rhaegar and went with him willingly, she not only brought shame on the Stark house by having bastard, but thousands of people died for her choice, and the Targaeryen dynasty was all but completely destroyed. Jon would be killed.

Also keep in mind Cat and Ned hardly knew each other then. By the time he trusted and loved her enough to tell her, I think it would have created more problems than solved. But ultimately Ned was a man of honor, and he was bound by honor. This time it just happened to be his sister's and not his.

Just letting Jon Arryn die because he was getting close to the truth about Cersei's children is all. No sympathies.

Daaaammmn that episode. The really nailed it with the music on this one. Everything was just epic.

Don't even know where to start - Arya, the White Wolf, Cersei being ruthless Queen Bitch again, Sir Davos finally letting the Red Woman hear what he thought of her. In some ways that was quite a bad Game of Thrones episode because they don't usually leave me feeling so satisfied.

Margery though T_T

Oh and I wonder how many takes it took Sophie Turner to get "Winter is here" just right. Must've been hard not to smirk having been giving the jackpot of all Game of Thrones one liners.

What a great finale. I've rarely been so happy with an episode.

The only thing that left me a little disappointed was that I thought Margaery deserved a better death than a secondary (most likely) target of a mass killing. Though I suppose we didn't see her die... Other than that, oh man. Jamie is SO killing Cersei next season and fulfilling her prophecy. Her outfit though. So regal.

Sam. Bless his heart <3

They've completely given up on showing people traveling, haven't they. People just pop up all over the world from one scene to the next xD I mean, there's little to no guarantee that story arcs are shown chronologically in relation to each other, so it's not so much that it's necessarily unrealistic, as much as taking effort to suspend one's disbelief about it. It's all worth it for that Arya scene, though. Maisie Williams nailed it. Arya is so messed up by now, and it shows.

I'm really curious how the North and Dany's merry band will align politically. It seems like they share more goals than they have opposing ones, so it'd probably be in their best interest to cooperate, but we'll see. Also very curious about what Sansa's going to do now that Jon was suddenly raised above her. It clearly doesn't sit perfectly well with her, and she seemed highly tempted by Littlefinger's suggestion, minus the romantic part. Perhaps Jon will go for an alliance with Dany but Sansa will stand for an independent North? Or the other way around? Can't wait for next year.

So many deaths, I kinda feel like they just rushed them all in a way. Not complaining, just wondering if it might have been better to split some of them into earlier episodes somehow. Still, damn. Yep same.

After her pushing Littlefinger away during his advances about "let's share the Iron Throne baby" I took her look at LF, during the gathering, as more of a concerned "what's going to be his next move" than an annoyance at Jon. The north rallying behind Jon is more of a thorn in Littlefinger's ambitions than hers, and I think she's well aware of that.

Ayen
06-27-2016, 11:46 PM
Yeah, the more I think about it, that story progression would kill Sansa's character (I don't mean literally) and I don't think even D&D would be that bad. Though LF is going to find out Jon isn't the same as Ned if he pulls the same trout with him. Ned tried not to hurt people when carrying things out and playing the game. Jon will straight up cut trout down when necessary, so LF may be biting off more than he can chew with Jon.

Though Sansa might be the one to put a knife in LF's stomach thus breaking Jinx's heart forevermore.

Is The Mountain a White Walker?
Good question. Not sure the powers that reanimated him are the same as what created the walkers. They certainly don't seem to be the same as whatever powers the Red priests have to bring people back to life.

Did Varys really get to Kings Landing, then Dorne in that short a time?
I don't think he went to King's Landing. I'm pretty sure that's the last place he wants to be. Meereen to Dorne and back in that time is a magical journey though.

Is Tyrion proper getting into Dany or is it just me?
He likes her, for realz. I don't think he wants to smurf her, if that's what you mean.

And how will Dany react to "King in the North" Jon Snow?
She won't like it. More interestingly, how will Jon Snow react to it? He seemed quite surprised at the reaction at the summit. I'm not sure that's what he wanted. Jon just wants to kill the walkers. He may accept this title to rally the men to the cause but I don't think he'll ever believe himself to be a king.

Why will there be drama between Jon and Sansa? Because it's Game of Thrones. It's not going to have several episodes of them skipping through the Godswood being happy together while flipping Littlefinger off. There needs to be drama and tension, that's what it does.

But honestly? Just look at the foreshadowing and how the writers are setting it up. With Sansa not telling Jon about the Vale Knights, Brienne asking Sansa why she didn't trust Jon, Jon making a clear point about how they need to trust each other and then that Littlefinger look at the end, the show is beating you over the head with it.

Despite my Baelish bashing for my own personal amusement, I think if Sansa had to kill him for any reason it could be made into a sad scene. Say what you will, Baelish watched over her, took care of her, and took her under his wing, so there's a bond there. On the flipside, Sansa betraying Jon would be just as heart-breaking, so there's merit to choosing either path. We won't know what the writers have planned until next year. I only don't like the sound of the latter because I haven't seen the would-be execution. Right now we're simply interpreting scenes differently, and that's the beauty of art. I certainly see where both sides are coming from.

Night Fury
06-28-2016, 12:25 PM
I think it's a lot more like Baelish groomed her, tbh.

Also, I kind of have issues with the Arya stuff. I found it almost like she was just thrown in there so we could have Arya in the finale. So she's jetpacked back to Westeros, apparently killed the Frey sons off screen (another off screen killing). Found time to get a face to dress up in (originally I actually thought it was a Dornish assassin after Jaime). Like, hooray Arya killed Walder Frey... but overall I felt a bit let down by it really.

Jinx
06-28-2016, 12:43 PM
My assumption at first was that she was working with Jaime. Nope, it's Arya.

Which means not only did Arya kill the Freys, but she killed a probably innocent woman to get her face. Arya's been a little psychopath since season 2, but it's starting to reach the point of not even being able to like her. Like, there's nothing sympathetic or admirable about her left.

Freya
06-28-2016, 02:16 PM
Oh she's turning into a crazy person and that completely fits with the world and what she's had to do to survive.

Also the timelines aren't happening all at the same time. The Arya Timeline didn't necessarily all happen this season. She could have already been back to westeros when jon was revived. IT's just how they're showing it to us. They've just eliminated travel time now when showing us characters. Travelling is boring so they just don't show it anymore.

Slothy
06-28-2016, 02:47 PM
I didn't think this would need to be said but clearly some time is passing off screen and between scenes considering Varys sailed to Dorne in the last few episodes and sail back to Mereen with Dornish and Tyrell ships. If Arya didn't have enough time to get back Westeros and make a move in the Frey's while all of that was happening then that'd be ridiculous.

And i don't see the big deal about Frey's sons dying off screen when the end result is seeing him find out they were cooked into his pie. They barely had any screen time to begin with and no one gives a crap about seeing them get offed when it's their father we want to see get killed. Showing their deaths would actually ruin what was a great death scene.

Not that there was any shortage of deaths in this episode that happened on screen.

Ayen
06-28-2016, 02:59 PM
Yeah, the timeline is even kind of disjointed in the books, too, so the source material doesn't help. If the alternative is more filler to show travel (like in previous seasons) I'm okay with the time skips. I think we're only noticing it more because it took them six seasons to basically go, "Smurf it!"

theundeadhero
06-28-2016, 03:01 PM

I wonder if Bran will get back and be able to tell Jon that Dany is his aunt.

I think he will. Because otherwise the information is pointless. And him getting back also gives a way for him to bring the Wall down.

Yeah, the fact they made a point to say the wall has magic keeping things out pretty much confirmed Bran is going to be the reason it comes down.

they all forget that the Targaryens have wed brother to sister for generations

i just read the part where Drogon comes into the fighting pit and Dany jumps on his back and flies of.

and that reminded me of something:

G.R.R said that Dany is not fireproof and that her survival in the Khal's pire was just a 1 time thing.
but in the book she runs into the fighting pit with a whip and Drogon burns her before she manages to tame him and fies of.
she is a bit burned afterwards but she should've been dead if she wasnt fireproof..

:colbert: i think he's just a liar and Dany is fireproof!

Fire resistant would mean fire would have a hard time burning her but eventually, she would burn.

Dragon fire might also be a bit different than regular fire since it's magic and makes things that kill White Walkers and stuff.

What Freya said. ;)

There's a reason even the clothes that firefighters wear on the job are "fire resistant" and not "fireproof", because they do eventually catch fire and burn it just takes longer than something that is not resistant to fire.

In video game terms fire resistant is -25% from fire damage and fireproof is -100% from fire damage.

Season 7 is Delayed. (http://www.nme.com/filmandtv/news/-game-of-thrones-season-seven-has-been-delayed/411403)

It's because since at the End of Season 6 they said "winter is here" Most of their setting is going to have to be filmed in the winter/fall seasons for a better look to avoid high post production costs. So the show will air later in the year since filming will be done later than normal. Still only 7 episodes though next season.

So we have a longer waiting time for more GoT :(

I liked the bit about skeletons sitting on the Iron Throne. Skeletons are always handy to have in a fight, so to have one as King or Queen would be a good prospect for Westeros.

I didn't like Grey Worm x Missandei because nobody cares. No, Formalhaut, not even you. Don't even. The pair of them combined have less personality than Jamie's hand. Yes, the rotten one.

Jinx
05-24-2017, 07:02 PM
I'll make a wager with you about Missandei dying. She's getting the axe, not him. He's already had a death fake-out, and his life has been so tragic. He lost his penis. Now he's going to lose his heart. (Okay, that's a great movie tag?!)

Also, there's no way Cersei is making it out of this season. None at all. Bitch. Is. Cornered. Which is a shame, because she's hands down my favorite character in the series. But as season 1 Cersei said--you win or you die. She's not going to win.

Freya
05-24-2017, 07:14 PM

Formalhaut
05-24-2017, 08:36 PM
Sad as it is to admit, either Grey Worm or Missandei is likely to die this season, probably in some way to make the war more 'real' to Dany or something. Probably Missandei, for reasons Jinx outlined.

Jinx
05-24-2017, 09:06 PM
I wouldn't be. Jaime is the obvious one.

It would be much more compelling storytelling, even if it was the more obvious.

In other news, Jaime kills Cersei, Azor Ahai, confirmed.

Psychotic
05-24-2017, 09:21 PM
I can think of situations where Tyrion doing it would be compelling. For example, he can either have his revenge on Cersei and kill her and lose Jaime forever, or spare the sister he hates for the brother he loves. Or they could need her help/resources against the White Walkers and Tyrion, the man who always advocates the smart play, makes the dumb one and kills her.

With that said, I would still prefer to see Jaime do it, but I don't think a Tyrion scenario would be awful either.

It's selling printer ink in Vietnam. Why, I'm half tempted to let it stay.

Its cheesy as hell, but I predict Sam will get to be a wizard.

He said he's always wanted to be one.
He's gone to study being a maester.
All the boys that study try magic at one time or another, even though they know they'll fail.
The warlock at Quarth said that magic had returned in the presence of dragons.
The dragons are going to Westeros.
Sam will try his hand at magic while the dragons are in Westeros, and succeed.
